    Great episode! I love how the two of you bounce off of each other. You have great energy. I’ve now subscribed.
    By the way, can we look forward to any more Buffy content in the near future? I’m sure myself and a loooot of others would devour more episodes focussed on Buffy, and maybes even Angel too.
    Thanks! ☺️🙏

    Once again, people who haven't seen anything but this episode (or also the first episode in this reactions case) asking questions answered in episodes beforehand and poking fun at what they wouldn't be if they knew the context. I sigh sadly here.

    The “heaven” (or “living”) bit is meant to create an uncomfortable feeling. The musical term is dissonance. The moment is a disturbing revelation to her friends. And Spike’s “living” is that this will undoubtedly be difficult for Buffy. Living in their world and living with her responsibilities, especially after having been to ~heaven…it sucks. (Pardon the pun.)
    Dissonance is regularly used in operas and occasionally used in musical theatre - it communicates unease. I know Joss Whedon is a big Stephen Sondheim fan, and Sondheim did a lot of shows with disturbing content (e.g., Sweeney Todd, Assassins), so dissonance was very much present in his work.
    Anyway! Just felt like sharing a bit of musical insight for some clarity.
    But… ow my heart! @ not liking Tara and her song. “Under Your Spell” was the first song I learned on the guitar. 🥰

    5:31 From some shots, like those used in the credits, Charisma(Cordy) looks more 8th or 9th grade, rather than 10th sophomore. But she had done that already, as a member of the Class of '89. Yes, believe it or not Charisma is 28 here. She was 27 when she got the role and turned 28 when filming began. Maybe kinda explains why she was the most mature of the Scoobies.

      Season 5 of Angel had potential to be great, but then they never go anywhere with it. You thought that they were going somewhere with S, but then he is regulated to comedy sidekick. Next, you thought that they were going somewhere with L but then that storyline goes away. After that, you thought that they were going somewhere with ILL but then that goes nowhere too. Then out of nowhere the CotBT comes in and is the big bad. However, a lot of this is because of the shows sudden cancellation, as the original plan was to spread the storyline out over season 6.

      She's not a good character IMO because she serves NO purpose after S5. By S7 she actually takes on other characters' traits. She's become irrelevant. That's bad writing. They should've just killed her off. I don't like Dawn, but it's not because she's annoying or "too real."
      I hate Angel and find him boring as a "person" too but at least he's become a fully developed character with a purpose.
      I'm not a huge Willow fan but she is very well-written. Much much MUCH better than Dawn. She's got a ton more layers and dimensions to her, and she doesn't need to take on other characters' traits to justify her existance.

    • @grandbullo
      @grandbullo Рік тому +4

      @@moonystic9417 I don't see how Dawn serve no purpose in season then she's Buffy last family and what made Buffy need to bring money and keep Homer home, etc...

    • @moonystic9417
      @moonystic9417 Рік тому +3

      @@grandbullo She WOULD have been that, representing the family aspect of the main character. Except Buffy was busy being depressed and all, and neglected her. Dawn was far from as important to her as she was in S5 when Dawn's life was in danger. When she was the key. When Buffy was TASKED with the mission to protect her OWN blood (literally). When Dawn was done being the key, in S6, she got demoted to "just the little sister." That's one-dimensional. Take Dawn out of this season, it wouldn't make any difference. Compare it to S5, where the story literally revolved around her. From S6 they wrote storylines FOR her, it wasn't character-driver. That's how you know a character is pointless. It's writing 101. Your comment supports what I say: Dawn's purpose is to be *someone else's* purpose (Buffy's). She doesn't stand on her own.
      Once Dawn was done being the key, they focused purely on the lil' teenage sister aspect. They never developed her fully, 90% of her life was her *sister's* life. They gave her traits already taken by other characters (like: researching, investigating, science, ancient languages, magic, being the "regular" one, being the one who sees, and of course slaying). I'm honestly surprised they didn't give her a hammer and have her start fixing the windows... You wanna tell me they couldn't have given any of those trait-related tasks to the other main characters? That we needed HER for the plot to progress?
      S7 started with Buffy training Dawn, followed by her promise to her at the end of S6. But by ep. 4 Buffy barely knew she existed... She literally ignored Dawn calling after her and headed out. In other words, nothing changed. Even worse, later on we learn that Buffy is now willing to sacrifice Dawn without thinking twice... Two years earlier, Buffy told Giles that if Dawn dies, she's done. She quits. She wouldn't have any family left. Buffy was willing to sacrifice everything for her sister. Except, later, the void that Joyce has left when she passed away, the reason why Buffy lasted this long in the first place (her connection to the world other than her friends), wasn't filled. Dawn was just there. Not a connection to the world, but a potential sacrifice FOR the world. Dawn herself didn't change much either in S6-7. Yes, she matured a bit, but she was still the same Dawn: she was still making some things about her, still shrieking her lungs out, still not listening to Buffy, still getting herself into trouble, 90% of her life was still her sister's, etc.
      Take a look at Angel in S3 to compare: The original plan was to NOT bring Angel back from the hell dimension. They only did that in order to send him off to his own show. The writing of his character suffered greatly as a result (and *I* suffered as a result of *that*). He and Buffy kept going in circles, nothing progressed there. Nothing changed. The writers have later admitted that they didn't know what to do with Angel this season. It's only after Angel gets his own show that he gets a personality transplant. Before that, he was "just the vampire cursed with a soul."
      I remind you that the show was supposed to end after S5, so Dawn wasn't written to last beyond that either. She was brought in for just one season. If they didn't know what to do with her when the show got picked up by another network, then yes - they should've written her out of the show like they did Connor. They clearly didn't.

    • @crosisx2714
      @crosisx2714 Рік тому +2

      @@moonystic9417 It wasn't supposed to end after S5, but it was written as a series finale if it came to it as they were in limbo.
      Overlapping of character traits is pretty common with humans and on this show, I don't understand this complaint that Dawn is doing research and learning languages with Willow as if Willow and Giles didn't do all the research in season 1 to progress the plot. Did you complain when Oz helped with research? Or Tara? Or Cordelia?
      You griping about Dawn still getting in trouble repeatedly can literally be said for every character. Willow STILL gets in trouble with spells, Xander still gets in trouble with dating demons, Anya still gets in trouble being a demon or ex demon. Just because Buffy would sacrifice Dawn to save the world doesn't mean Buffy doesn't care about her. Because if the world ends, Dawn would still die. Buffy in the Gift was just being hard headed and she would've let Dawn jump if she didn't realize she could do it instead. When Dawn tells her she has to jump Buffy knows it's true for few seconds before she realizes she can do it. This is quite different than what you're trying to imply, that Buffy doesn't give a crap about Dawn. Buffy knows saving the world is the bigger picture and she obviously still cares about Dawn because she tries to make sure she isn't in the last battle by having Xander take her away.
      The rest of this is just complaining to complain. Dawn was much better written than Connor was and it's not even comparable.
