Should You Buy A Moterm: Gillio & Moterm Unboxings & Comparison

- With the launch of the Moterm vegetable leather planners, should you leave your Gillio or VDS to buy a Moterm and save money? Join me as I unbox a total of three planners and compare them to the new Moterm. I not only show Gillio and VDS but also my Louis Vuitton.

I think Gillios retained value because there were no near competitors...with Moterm Veg Tan, you are paying a fraction of the price for something similar...the recent spate of destashes happening and mostly with Gillios and the fact they are not getting snapped up as fast...indicates people may be trading to Moterm and don't see the value wit paying 4-5x more for a Gillio. I have owned several Gillios and while the leather is nicer...Moterm's price point is very attractive and will likely retain most of their value over time - Gillio may have only been able to retain value because no competitor...I feel Moterm will depress Gillio resales except for the like News and not the well used.
This seems to be exactly what is going on from what I have observed. I know I bought this Moterm out of curiosity and was very pleasantly surprised. I would also add that Gillio hasn’t changed anything such as the pocket configuration. I think they are beautiful leather, but it’s time to change a couple of features as times are changing.

@@dr_alvaplans Agree, I do not like the pocket configurations, zippers or their customer service. If they redesigned and started doing things like matching hardware and got rid of "discounted" defective products would be better....their price points for defective make no sense.

@@rsl8759 yes to ALL of that!!! The mismatched hardware drives me bonkers. I now have 2 rare Gillio Compagnas with matching gold hardware, and may sell off my others (if I can).
And yes - “defective” Gillios are still expensive.

All of these are absolutely stunning!!! I am very impressed with the moterm! the pocket on the fly leaf!! My vds velvet sand has that :) Also, thank you so much for sharing price points!! I love that thank you!! It is so useful when thinking about a next planner purchase! I am definitely thinking of these moterms now :)

So helpful Nora! I just started using FCC so it was a nice surprise to see you insert FCC inserts to get a perspective on how they fit with almost each planner. I agree that I love the compact size of the LV MM and the moterm does look a little wider and chunkier. These thorough comparisons were great!

I posted my Moterm unboxing yesterday of my B6 Plus covers. Mine are quite nice and I really like them. My first VDS comes this month but I know it’ll be higher quality in feel because I rented one for a bit and also it’s fully customizes. But I like the Moterm. Don’t have any Gillios because I wasn’t very impressed or inspired by any shares I’ve seen of their covers on IG or YT - just never seem worth the money to me in the design and finishing. And the complaints I’ve seen on quality control.
Loved your unboxings, and I can’t wait until you get your VDS! What leather/color did you get? As time goes on, I’ve seen so many complaints about the more recent quality of Gillios, so I completely see your point 🥰 It’s so sad about this as they have been a top cover brand for such a long time. Hoping there are less quality issues, but you must do what feels right 😘
That moterm looks absolutely stunning…..rich and supple looking. I think the size and pocket configuration is superior as well. For me…and the price difference…the moterm wins 1000%. I mean it looks absolutely stunning….Given it’s full grain leather I’m sure it will relax in the back and wear in with use.
Thank you for such a lovely comment. I think for me it’s an issue with how wide it is. I think the Gillio Amica is as wide as I could go since I prefer slimmer planners. However, I agree 1,000% on everything you stated. Very well said! 🥰
For me, I like all the covers. Thus far, I only have one Veg Tanned Moterm (B6+ Apricot). It's a terrific cover, but the softness of leather is nothing like my undyed Gillio, which is as soft as butter. I'm "Team Texture", and also find the texture on the Gillios to be more pronounced if you like that, which I do. For my taste, the texture is more muted than I would prefer. But for the money and design, especially with the PWs, Moterm is amazing! That's why I have some on the way.
I completely agree with everything stated, and the financial point is very important as Moterm has elevated their covers while providing a more comfortable price point. Thank you for sharing 🙏🏽🙏🏽

I “splurged” on a FQ slightly used A6 Appunto Lotus only because Moterm doesn’t have a blush pink in their lineup and I hate pebbled leather of any kind so that meant no-go on VDS Parme or Rose for me. I was eyeing a Gillio Purple Epoca but now that Moterm’s Veg tan line up is going to include Plum, I’ll be waiting for that release. Paying $$$ for VDS and Gillio seems insane to me lol But I’m naturally frugal so maybe it’s just me 🤷♀️ I ordered 3 A6+ covers in the veg-tan Moterm leathers and they’re perfect. Snap closure and pocket configuration with the new lineup of Moterms makes them a no-brainer for me. I also think paying $200 for a “PGD” (aka., has flaws) is what I like to call “coo coo for Cocoa Puffs” 😂

Ha! You’re so funny 🤗 I agree that the pocket configuration on some Gillios are just not what I’m looking for 🫣. I love the purchases you made and the lotus is always a great buy. I had a huge collection on lotus covers for a long time.

I expect variation in color and texture with full grain leather whether it’s a Gillio, Moterm, etc. but your strap almost looks like it’s in the color Chestnut instead of Caramel. I have really gone nuts for these Moterms, though. They are beautiful!
Thank you so much for pointing that out. I think that’s why something seemed odd about my strap, and I didn’t know how to articulate it. It’s something to consider for me now, but overall, Moterm is bringing their A game 🥰
It’s funny that you said the Moterm didn’t lay flat. I have two Gillio, both of them don’t lay flat. Maybe yours are different from mine?
I bend mine back all the way. Have you tried that? Also try training it by putting books on it as you lay it flat open. Even my super stiff blush matte croc Amica was laying flat after a while. Perhaps you already tried these tricks. Keep me posted 😘
Where can you purchase the Moterm?
For the veg tan you have to go directly to the Moterm website. I’m not sure if you can also buy them from AliExpress.
How did you find the new Moterm on IG?
The friend I mentioned in the planner community posted it on sale in her stories on IG 🥰
