Udo Dirkschneider (vocals) was the original singer in German heavy metal titans Accept, who broke big in 1983 w/ the album (and single) 'Balls to the wall'... "Princess of the Dawn" was an Accept song from their 1982 album 'Restless & wild'.
Udo is 72 years of age and still making records and touring w/ his band U.D.O. (Udo calls the band Dirkschneider only when he performs Accept songs exclusively) The drummer is Udo's son - Sven Dirkschneider...
Udo Dirkschneider formed Band X in (West) Germany in the late 60's... they renamed themselves Accept around 1976 w/ Wolf Hoffman (guitar) and Peter Baltes (bass) joining and debuted in 1979 like a German version of AC/DC.
Accept became a more aggressive heavy metal band in the early 80's w/ the albums 'Restless & wild' (1982)... 'Balls to the wall' (1983)... 'Metal heart' (1985)... However, after the album 'Russian roulette' (1986), Accept thought that they needed a new singer to appeal to a wider audience in 1987 and asked Udo Dirkschneider to leave the band...
Udo left the band on the condition that he would take the next Accept album w/ him...He released it in 1987 as 'Animal house' under the name U.D.O. and carried on.
Accept announced American singer David Reece in 1989 and the album 'Eat the heat'... it was a commercial disaster and Accept broke up that year.
After releasing several U.D.O. albums, Udo reunited w/ Accept in 1993... but the band broke up again by 1996 after 3 more studio albums.
Accept hired singer Mark Tornillo in 2010 and is still active today.
In 1997, U.D.O. returned w/ the album 'Solid'... and Udo Dirkschneider has kept busy recording U.D.O. albums like an AC/DC of German metal... Albums like - 'Holy' (1999) ... 'Mission No.X' (2005) ... 'Steelhammer' (2013)... Their latest album is 'Touchdown' in 2023.
@sumonjamal1653 - True. But Udo went his own way later on, so to speak. He even had his own band/CD, called "UDO" (not too bad after all).
In case of "Accept", I can recommend something like, listening to the "Accept - Princess of the Dawn -Live Feat, from Wacken,2017", with the Chech National Symphony Orchestra along the way.
And definitely a lot was also up to Wolf Hoffmann, the guy behing some of the songs, lyrics, and definitely a lot of planning.
Even now, I can recommend his "solo" approach, outside of Accept > "Headbangers Symphony", or even watching Accept with somebody like amazing Ava-Rebekah Rahman.

True. But that was long time ago. And a lot was also up to Wolf Hoffmann too, especially after Udo left (long time ago anyway).
You can listen to "Accept - Princess of the Dawn -Live Feat, from Wacken,2017", with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, and all of that was done by Wolf (there is even youtube behind the scenes about it, when Accept was working with Orchestra at that point). Or even his approach to Ava-Rebekah Rahman. Udo was long gone by then, a long time...
I still remember "Russian Roulette", "Restless and Wild" or even solo approach from Udo later on. Yeah... I'm that old.
Udo Dirkschneider are one of the Godfathers of heavy metal, former singer of the German metal band "Accept".
I think this song was released on the "Restless and Wild" album from 1982, which started with the all famous track "Fast as a shark" which almost blew my ears off first time I heard it, and drove my dad crazy 😅
Back in 1982 I was 12 years old, and had never heard anything like the Accept song 'Fast as a shark' before, it was mindblowing and so impressive.

Udo Dirkschinder and Klaus Meine will always be respected and remembered as the greatest german vocalists ever.
Udo Dirkschneider was 66 years old in this video. A fun fact is that it is his son Sven who plays the drums.

The singer Udo Dirkschneioder is one of the veterans of German metal. He is now 72 years old and still active. In 1971 he was one of the co-founders of the heavy metal band Accept. In 1986 the band wanted a change of style and took Udo out of the band. The change of style failed and Accept disbanded several times afterwards. Today they exist again and have the same old style as in Udo's time, including a singer with a similar voice. Udo remained successful solo, in various projects.

The Original Accept vocalist Udo Dirkschneider. Left and did his own band U.D.O. Came back for 3 albums in the late 90's and then went back to U.D.O. In 2015 he decided not to do any old Accept songs under the U.D.O. name. So he toured as Dirkschneider with a full Accept setlist. It is his son Sven Dirkschneider on the drums. In 2021 he did a project called Dirkschneider and The Old Gang. Also featuring his son and old Accept members Peter Baltes on bass and Stefan Kaufmann on guitar (used to be the Accept drummer).
