Nice Yamadori find. As a rule, I always plant 2 trees of the same variety whenever I harvest from the wild. It's just my way of giving back. Also, I am not comfortable with telling myself that mother nature has bigger problems than my bonsai garden. Enjoy your bonsai journey!
Hehe, i enjoy your sense of humor.. I really like that idea of planting 2 trees for every 1 tree one digs up. Welcome to bonsai talk Jon Axel, let's grow!
If enough of the original root system is left intact and the hole re-filled after taking the specimen a new tree should propagate back through the soil and new growth should appear the following spring bring a new tree. But planting trees is always a good practice as well. 😉👍
hi, your video is lovely:) I am watching because my son grew an oak from an acorn. it is 7 years now and i need to take it out my garden as it will become too big. I wondered if it could be bonsai . I know nothing but intend to try. Your detail is helping me thank you :)

Very cool. Step by step video excellent. I like the more natural look of Yamadori for Bonsai, better than nursery or fake store bought trees, this is the rel deal man thanks for showing us how to do it. This is exactly the way I want to do it.
Hey, buddy , great first Yamadori collection adventure and good to see you too are using Cat Litter. I have been using it for the last three years, and in my recent videos started to tell viewers about it. The only difference between us is that I don't add pumice or organic matter. Very soon we will have every one switching from akadama to Cat litter. The bonsai revolution has started !!
Thanks mikbonsai... we use some coarser substrate for collected material and for yamadori always. I would say we use 10-20% of chipped bark as organic maximum.. have a great day, until next time.
Nice job but I don’t know where you got the idea to use cat litter. Most cat litter contains some type of perfume which doesn’t do the tree any good at all. Use a basic soil mix with lava, river stone , akedama and some collected soil from where the tree came from. You’ll have a much better success rate. Also, that cat litter wasn’t washed out. Lots of dust in there. Also, don’t use such a big container! The size that you used will never dry out and you’ll have a chance of getting rot rot.
Whats up Gil! Let's talk bonsai.. Reconsidering the "Catlitter" It's actually a big difference between commercial catlitter in EU and the US. This specific brand that we use is 100% organic burnt clay (Diatomaceous earth) and nothing else. All those things you are implying and saying, trust me.. We have already thought about it, and perfected it. There is a reason why we work and do what we do, when we do it. One other thing, bringing back some original soil is ok idea, but it only fills purposes that we can adjust IF needed, that is the risk of eliminating finer roots in the yamadoriprocess *OR* not getting healthy percentages of mycorrhiza (wich is only really nescessary for Pine, larch and Oak. We know this. Reason why we use big containers is to captialize on the current rootsystem, and there is not a chance that we will get rot rot with 100% in-organic matter, thats the actually one of the reasons you NEVER should even consider using organic matter if you have good water control. Congratulations for your vídeo-programmes. My question is about he law because In Spain nobody can take anything from the forest or the countryside, not a trece, plant or stone. It belongs to someone or to the state. See you again or watch you again, from Valencia in the mediterranean sunny coast. Thanks
Thats why all the spanish, mediterranean people are giving me tough love! I understand now that the laws can be very different depending on where you come from..I''m lucky to be swedish, because with the landowner, county's permisson we can dig anything (Not some broadleaf species in south) but almost, anything.. Anyhow, mediterranean zone is the home to many strong and beautiful species such as olives, portugese oak and bouganvillea, i hope you find good nursery material or can buy/dig where the laws are right!
What I keep asking myself is how do you manage to bend the main structure of these plants? they are often straight, how do you manage to give them the movement?
@@BonsaiTalk btw yeah I know how to give movement to the bonsai but in this particular case, where you find a quite mature plant with an apparently rigid and straight body then it's supposed to stay in that position or can you still manage to bend this kind of branches?
@@PhotoSlash Often of times you dig up only specific trees that has natural movement and bends... There is techniques to bending straighter trunks, but it's complicated and needs to be perfomed over time to get the effect.

Make sure you watch our other content / videos.. *especially* the MAINTENANCE, STYLING videos and you will see how it's done.
@@BonsaiTalk okay thank you :D
@@BonsaiTalk btw yeah I know how to give movement to the bonsai but in this particular case, where you find a quite mature plant with an apparently rigid and straight body then it's supposed to stay in that position or can you still manage to bend this kind of branches?
@@PhotoSlash Often of times you dig up only specific trees that has natural movement and bends... There is techniques to bending straighter trunks, but it's complicated and needs to be perfomed over time to get the effect.
Ever have problems with the pressure treated wood effecting the health of your trees?
damon stelly Nope, never heard of such thing either, something to research
What brand of cat litter are you using?
Fantastic video & channel. I enjoy your content.
Makes my day to hear that..thank you Yamid Barbosa.. share, comment, sub and like for more will come in the future, Let's grow!
Where did y’all go?
This is just amazing!!!!
Nice collections. I particularly like the birch. I'll wait for your update!
Thanks, The birch is soon bursting in leafs i can tell you!
Hi, which kind of soil are you used for repotting the yamadori? Great video!
Hey Donato Parisi! We use leca balls in the voids of the containers, where roots havent connected and filled anything up, then we fill the rest up with either pure granuled clay (catlitter non-clump) or Catlitter 80%, Chipped Bark10 % and 10% Perlite mixxed up! Thank you!
Thank you! Looking forward for others videos! Have a nice day!
Type of cat litter ? What does it hve in cat litter? ?
Ethanx Bao it’s clay pellets that are fired. Similar to akadama clay pellets.
have more close ups next update on these would of love to see .
Hey! In the future yes..
Hi,I'm leveling in the north of Sweden and I'm going to Bonsai hunting as soon as the snow will melt down :)
My question is where to buy Bonsai soul!!!
I'm having 7 Bonsais and I'm making my own soul and unfortunately it's not that good.
Any way great video and good to know what I should look for outside in the forest.
Hey Markim Zakaria! Im glad you found me, make sure you sub, like and share Bonsai Talk! - Best and cheapest way to get Bonsai soil is to buy Catlitter. Cat poop sand.. you can try Coop X-tra Kattsand if you live in Sweden. Make sure it's non-clump, you dont want clumps! Good Luck!
Thanks man.
Loved your video
Fantastic collection 👌
With time my friend, with time... it can be good.. The birch is really getting there.. we are waiting for spring so badly now!
So how are these trees doing? I noticed you didn't sift the kitty litter :/
Peter Keltz how's everything? I never bother to sift on yamadori and rough material, it makes minimal differences..they are alive and kicking! I'm planning on doing a summer update but super busy filming other content for this channel, right now!
Nice! I need to do some of this probably next spring!
Que buen video! Saludos desde Guatemala.

Hey im new to your Channel and just beginning with the Art of Bonsai.
And i would like to know which ingredients you put into the soil.
Nice Video :)
You are most welcome here! For collected material and trees in training = Non-clump catlitter (Diatomaceous earth also known as diatomite) I use the mix 90% catlitter 10% chipped bark.
Bonsai Talk Thanks :)
If your leaving it the way you found it,why not replant another sappling in it,s place?
M Henhawke A good and nature environmental idea, perhaps something for the future.
