*Disclamer for foreigners* All the negative comments thrown at those who speak the truth about the ugliness of Milano's Subway System are trolls (or hopefully just 'ironic'). Those fedenders of Milano's subway system are actually ONE person with many accounts.
All the comments from Milan's people show a paranoia syndrome: that who whatsoever dares to advance even the least criticism of their city/subways system MUST be jealous of what they seem to glorify. I say, if people don't like your metro it cannot be because they suffer from an inferiority complex (after all, it's not that Milan has a modern network of 25 lines like London boasts). People cannot be "trolling" if they say what they think; and there is surely no jealousy when it comes to an antiquate 4 line metro system, trust me. But when you're being pick-pocketed in a dark train that's approaching a dark metro station covered in graffiti...well...you're not gonna get a very nice review. Let's face it. Especially when that happens in a very tiny network of a few miles in length. Personally I had much better experiences in Naples, Rome and Turin. Those were much better trains and much more attractive and safe stations. But this is my humble and personal opinion.
I'd like to write a comment now that the video got old and I hope the flame in the comment section stopped. Milan is a nice city and its metro system is pretty good, the best in Italy (you can just look it up on the internet). The city is not a third world country as some accounts are for some reason suggesting and it's a great place to visit, so if you are a turist and have never been there don't be discouraged by these weird troll accounts that seem to belong to the same person.
I don't know where you've been or if you've lived there but Milan's metro system is awesome. Trains are on time, stations are constantly renovated and clean! It really is one of the best services I've seen, and I've seen a few. Plus, it's one of the few places with a coherent, beautiful and historic visual identity, designed by Bob Noorda.
Milan is going through a dark depressing time. The economy in the city is bad and its subway system is a symbol of that : ( I live it everyday. The town is falling apart.

Milan's subway is the worst in all of Italy. Never seen a dirtier and stinkier metro than Milan's in my whole life (and I've seen dozens of subway systems around the world). Italy doesn't shine in regards to subways but Rome, Turin and Naples offer a much better quality of service without any doubt. Btw, I'm from NYC of Italian descent. As a born and raised "angelino" all I can say is that the Milan metro system is the worst in all of europe. been there three times and found it to be the crappiest of all. away from the fact that in those stations there was a theft happening every 4 minutes... They should just bomb it to dust and rebuild a new network from scratch...but good luck without $$$ I loved the London and the Paris networks. Even Barcelona, Rome, Madrid and Berlin metros were cool. But Milan....oh gosh.

People complaining about Milan underground system (Metropolitana di Milano) are clearly trolls with no idea of what public transportation means. Milan was the first city in Italy to receive a subway network (back in the sixties), and still has the biggest network in Italy (for total Kilometers of network, but also for number of stations and number of lines). It has four lines (and an underground railway line that is used by suburban trains), over 100 Km of rails connecting the most economically developed city in the country. It is a safe, up to date, fast and cheap way to move around and discover the Milan area also for a tourist, but also a ride on the historic trams up on the surface can be a great system to travel, considering that you can also discover the city from the window of an old tram car. No other town in Italy (check on Wikipedia) has a similar subway network. From 2016, many things have improved in the tunnels of Milan Metro. New Ansaldobreda Leonardo trains were delivered, and M2 Line is undergoing a progressive upgrade of the power-grid terminals, to provide a even more reliable operation. I assume you must be filled with envy, since Trieste has no metro line and the tram is still out of service after the severe accident that happened nearly two years ago, but please consider that milan is over ten times bigger than Trieste. The economy in Milan is just doing good, and the World Expo of 2015 was in Milan, not in Catania. How can you compare Catania (with one short line of subway closed on Sundays and after dinner time) to a huge metropolis with a public transportation system that is efficient 24/7 (some bus lines are all night long!)? I found Milan's subway to be functional and on time, although aesthetically I thought it was by far the worst looking system in all of Europe. I didn't like the stations especially as they seemed run down and abandoned. But the trains were on time.

Sono uno studente universitario che ha vissuto sia a Roma che a Milano, ma siete seri quando dite che la metro di Roma è meglio di quella di Milano? Milano è 10 volte più piccola di Roma ed ha quattro linee di cui una TOTALMENTE automatizzata. Tra qualche anno aprirà anche la quinta linea. L'abbonamento annuo è di soli 200 euro per gli under 26 e ti consente di viaggiare su TUTTO il network ATM (Passante Ferroviario compreso). A Milano mi capita di prendere il taxi solamente per tornare a casa dalla discoteca, anche se in realtà ci sarebbero i mezzi. A Roma per un qualsiasi spostamento ho sempre usato scooter o taxi, i mezzi sono sempre in ritardo, dei bus non ne parliamo che è meglio. In conclusione Roma è una città BELLISSIMA, ricca d'arte e di cultura, nonostante ciò è una città INVIVIBILE a livello di mobilità pubblica. Milano invece è una città che funziona ed il suo network di trasporti pubblici è avanti anni luce rispetto a quello di Roma.

Ludo 368 tra quelle che hai menzionato, solo quella di Napoli è meglio (ma è comunque troppo piccola). Le stazioni sono delle vere opere d'arte. Torino e Brescia non le considero neanche perché, i chilometri di linea, sono troppo pochi (inesistenti). Gli unici sistemi metropolitani in Italia sono quello di Milano e Roma ma quello di Roma non è minimamente all'altezza di quello di Milano che, comunque, rispetto a molte altre città europee, è decisamente insufficiente.

Perfettamente d'accordo con te. Ma solo se si escludono gli altri sistemi metropolitani italiani. Se si prende solo la città di Milano in confronto alle altre città europee (Monaco di Baviera, Barcellona, Stoccolma, ecc....), Milano non è neanche classificabile. All the comments from Milan's people show a paranoia syndrome: that who whatsoever dares to advance even the least criticism of their city/subways system MUST be jealous of what they seem to glorify. I say, if people don't like your metro it cannot be because they suffer from an inferiority complex (after all, it's not that Milan has a modern network of 25 lines like London boasts). People cannot be "trolling" if they say what they think; and there is surely no jealousy when it comes to an antiquate 4 line metro system, trust me.
But when you're being pick-pocketed in a dark train that's approaching a dark metro station covered in graffiti...well...you're not gonna get a very nice review. Let's face it. Especially when that happens in a very tiny network of a few miles in length.
Personally I had much better experiences in Naples, Rome and Turin. Those were much better trains and much more attractive and safe stations.
But this is my humble and personal opinion.

Milan is a nice city and its metro system is pretty good, the best in Italy (you can just look it up on the internet). The city is not a third world country as some accounts are for some reason suggesting and it's a great place to visit, so if you are a turist and have never been there don't be discouraged by these weird troll accounts that seem to belong to the same person.

I don't know where you've been or if you've lived there but Milan's metro system is awesome. Trains are on time, stations are constantly renovated and clean! It really is one of the best services I've seen, and I've seen a few. Plus, it's one of the few places with a coherent, beautiful and historic visual identity, designed by Bob Noorda.
That was a while back. Now they are deteriorated. It's really sad.

People complaining about Milan underground system (Metropolitana di Milano) are clearly trolls with no idea of what public transportation means. Milan was the first city in Italy to receive a subway network (back in the sixties), and still has the biggest network in Italy (for total Kilometers of network, but also for number of stations and number of lines).
It has four lines (and an underground railway line that is used by suburban trains), over 100 Km of rails connecting the most economically developed city in the country. It is a safe, up to date, fast and cheap way to move around and discover the Milan area also for a tourist, but also a ride on the historic trams up on the surface can be a great system to travel, considering that you can also discover the city from the window of an old tram car.
No other town in Italy (check on Wikipedia) has a similar subway network.
From 2016, many things have improved in the tunnels of Milan Metro. New Ansaldobreda Leonardo trains were delivered, and M2 Line is undergoing a progressive upgrade of the power-grid terminals, to provide a even more reliable operation.

I assume you must be filled with envy, since Trieste has no metro line and the tram is still out of service after the severe accident that happened nearly two years ago, but please consider that milan is over ten times bigger than Trieste.
The economy in Milan is just doing good, and the World Expo of 2015 was in Milan, not in Catania. How can you compare Catania (with one short line of subway closed on Sundays and after dinner time) to a huge metropolis with a public transportation system that is efficient 24/7 (some bus lines are all night long!)?

I found Milan's subway to be functional and on time, although aesthetically I thought it was by far the worst looking system in all of Europe. I didn't like the stations especially as they seemed run down and abandoned. But the trains were on time.

Sono uno studente universitario che ha vissuto sia a Roma che a Milano, ma siete seri quando dite che la metro di Roma è meglio di quella di Milano? Milano è 10 volte più piccola di Roma ed ha quattro linee di cui una TOTALMENTE automatizzata. Tra qualche anno aprirà anche la quinta linea. L'abbonamento annuo è di soli 200 euro per gli under 26 e ti consente di viaggiare su TUTTO il network ATM (Passante Ferroviario compreso). A Milano mi capita di prendere il taxi solamente per tornare a casa dalla discoteca, anche se in realtà ci sarebbero i mezzi. A Roma per un qualsiasi spostamento ho sempre usato scooter o taxi, i mezzi sono sempre in ritardo, dei bus non ne parliamo che è meglio. In conclusione Roma è una città BELLISSIMA, ricca d'arte e di cultura, nonostante ciò è una città INVIVIBILE a livello di mobilità pubblica. Milano invece è una città che funziona ed il suo network di trasporti pubblici è avanti anni luce rispetto a quello di Roma.

Italy doesn't shine in regards to subways but Rome, Turin and Naples offer a much better quality of service without any doubt.

Fabrizio Grimaldi Beh a Torino, Napoli, Brescia e Catania sono messi decisamente meglio, giusto Roma potrebbe battere, ma neanche, più o meno siamo allo stesso livello.
Ludo 368 tra quelle che hai menzionato, solo quella di Napoli è meglio (ma è comunque troppo piccola). Le stazioni sono delle vere opere d'arte. Torino e Brescia non le considero neanche perché, i chilometri di linea, sono troppo pochi (inesistenti). Gli unici sistemi metropolitani in Italia sono quello di Milano e Roma ma quello di Roma non è minimamente all'altezza di quello di Milano che, comunque, rispetto a molte altre città europee, è decisamente insufficiente.

Se si prende solo la città di Milano in confronto alle altre città europee (Monaco di Baviera, Barcellona, Stoccolma, ecc....), Milano non è neanche classificabile.
