Hi Marilyn! His character was so much fun, I loved seeing him develop and find that determination. Glad you enjoyed it too! Much love from Germany to Hawaii ❤️

Omg! The cat chirps are perfect. I read this a few years ago for Victober, and I remember it being perfectly atmospheric for the cold, autumnal season. As you were talking about it I wasn’t remembering the details so I think I’m due for a reread. Great review- Cheers!

I've read this one on audiobook last year and I absolutely loved it! It is easy to read, as you say. English is not my first language and I had no problems with it. I loved the sensation elements and I also felt in love with Robert. He has a great arch as a character.

According to Barbara Tuchman (in _The Guns of August),_ Helmuth von Moltke (the Elder), Chief of the Prussian Army General Staff, during mobilization day of the Franco-Prussian war (1870), having completed all preparation for the coming war and with nothing else to do, was found relaxing on his sofa reading _Lady Audley's Secret._

Thanks for the review. Having read quite a few sensation novels, I would say that two areas where this book score highly are: the first volume is more gripping than is usual, with its short chapters and the cutting between locations/plot strands and, secondly, its knowing humor throughout is very satisfying, such as when the doctor is called in toward the end and deflates the entire book's action.
Also, to do away with the gap, somewhat, between first wave Gothic and sensation novel, simply stop reading at the end of chapter 6 of the final volume, Buried Alive, for what is, in my view, a superior conclusion.

Great to see a new video! ❤ I’m very eager to pick this up. I think I watched the film of it on UA-cam but can’t be sure it would have been long ago! Happy holidays Claudia!

I'm reading this now. Am two thirds of the way thru. Love it! I'm trying to see Lady Audley having good qualities. I can't. But I'm not thru it to see how it ends. I do not see her as facing prison or tried for her crimes Rich people never do,

I recently read Lady Audley's Secret and I am glad that I did. It's one of my favourite classics. I can't believe it took me so long to discover Braddon and her works. I love the fact that one of the characters is inspired by Constance Kent. You really get the vibe later on in the book and I love it.

read this along time ago, lived close to 'Audley End' and wondered if they were related? not that I could tell, Audley End is SE England quite close to Stansted airport, but I think the bodies have already been exhumed?

"Spoilering" must be one of those English words such as "speciality," which seem so strange and unnecessarily long to Americans. ""Spoiling" does the job here as does "specialty." Vive la diference!
