Great set. I was really wondering if all those whiffed SPDs were a part of Mena's strategy to condition Chris and once the former was able to get some more games on the board, they definitely helped in that regard.
@@Saint-ismYou are not in airborne status during a backdash. If you hit someone during a backdash it is considered a grounded opponent, thus allowing you to continue for a combo and not a backflip reset.
0:55secs - Smart Gief play as Menard knows that players typically jump when Gief is in such a close range. Excellent counter option after putting your opponent in "Check". 2:33secs - Wow. This is now Menard's signature read as he did the same thing to Daigo and Tokido. Technically, this is no different from the earlier one as it's another option after putting the opponent in "Check". The only option the opponent has is for Menard to either guess wrong or not be in that situation to begin with. 3:36secs - Excellent Ken pressure. From the way Ken was playing this seemingly basic play with the OD was actually out of the norm. 18:13 secs - Damn. Talk about handling and keeping Menard in check in the corner. Menard was in Ken's pressure midplay vortex. This entire set really shows that the game is incredibly tier-based. Ken is an S Tier. Gief is a B+ tier. Menard is the Evo Japan champ while Chris only achieved runner-ups. Menard had to work 150% harder to get the same results as Chris' Ken. If the game was close to a "balanced" game, the results would have been completely different.
Thats the issue, they purposefully nerf characters, like why does grapplers throw you across the screen afte rthey worked so hard to get close? and why no green hands? Yet characters like Ken, JP, Guile, Luke, etc just get the world
@@bulthaosen1169 maybe, but I have not seeing any other gief winning a tournament in sf6 (I haven't seen all tournaments but you can correct me). so, if I'm correct the "Mid/weak" gief he has, is working and people are again asking for nerf, same happened with blanka at the start, hurr durr bLaNkA wEaK hurr durr sHiT cHaRaCTeR... 2:33 What an incredible read!
Brilliant how it catches both options
He saw the animation of Ken about to do the DP. That's dope 👌
Estaba practicando ese agarre si se fijan
It's not a raw read. Earlier game or round Chris T did EX DP after Gief LK DRC. Mena baited that answer to the LK DRC.
What's crazy is he's doing this exact thing on a regular basis against characters that use ex dp

Mind sharing some ceroblast content he's been on fire lately also plays bison

He caught the backdash
@Saint-ism I had no idea it worked like that thought it was only a air grab thanks for the info
@@Saint-ism Backdash are throw invincible. It was a regular back or neutral jump.
@@ds6972 well yeah could be a normal jump. But I think backdash is an airborne state which is why it's invul to ground throw

Good analysis. Zangief is too read heavy to be sustainable.

Gief isnt weak, he is just stupidly luck based in this game, though im sure they'll just nerf him next season like they always do
