The sl65 black series should have easily far above 350 km/h topspeed because the sl65 normal reached 344 km/h and sl65 normal has 612 hp and this has 58 more
It was ludicrous because only a few years before the Carrera GT had 603bhp, the Murcielago LP 640 had 631bhp, Zonda F Clubsport 641bhp, the Ferrari Enzo 651bhp and the Mclaren SLR 617bhp. Even the 722 edition "only" had 641bhp. These were the royalty of hyper cars in 2008. For Mercedes to take the SL and dump 661bhp into it was madness.

I was out driving on the interstate in the rain and one of these in red passed me. I almost did not see it because it was night time but he slowed down right next to me and I was TOTALLY blown away. Car is really sexy! Such a perfect design and craftsmanship

Can’t wait until I pick up an E55 AMG 😋 First AMG I’ve ever ridden in was a SL55 AMG. I know it’s nowhere near the Black Series but you’d be surprised there’s not much difference between the SL65 AMG and the SL55, the 55’s instant power from the supercharger and V8 vs the turbos spooling on the V12 & the weight meant they were pretty equally matched, fun fact! Now save yourself the headache of the V12 and having the reliability of that 5.4L
@@RealGX I’ve been in both. The V12’s weight and lag from the turbos spooling compared to the supercharged V8’s instant power band isn’t much different unless you’re talking top end.. Most people won’t be able to use all that power so in reality the V8 is faster from a dig & keeps up from a 60 pull easily
@@RealGXhe is right tho. The V12s dont feel faster than the supercharged V8s. The thing the V12 has over the V8 is the insanely smooth running characteristics. But powerwise the M113k isnt worse. They even feel more brutal due to the instant supercharger torque kick.
These V12 Mercedes are the master pieces of the brand. Own a sl600 years ago with the 5.5 biturbo and the feeling of the force was so better than my m157 of today with 200 HP higher... The V12 miss me
Had the pleasure of driving a S600 with this engine and 500hp for a weekend, its so different to a V8 Biturbo. The engine feels like its never struggling, almost relaxing and its still so powerful.
I would love for somebody with more money than sense to buy one of these, rip out that 5 speed box and fit an 8 speed ZF unit that could handle the torque with no issues. Dream spec!
I'm doing it with a audi Q7 V12 TDI. A little bit headache make my ECU talking with TCU correctly and next tunning the transmission and upgrade all drivetrain
The original 2001 R230 is one of the most beautiful designs, of all time. It looked amazing when it came out, and still to date doesn't look dated. Many of us first saw it on a regular basis, during its life as a F1 Safety car.

This car is one of my favourite cars of all time. Obviously compared with todays cars there are many now that do so much more. But for me this is a proper high performance legend. And it looks so trick, i love it. You can keep your lambos & ferrari's they do nothing for me. I'll take something like this all day long.
I purchased a 07 CLS AMG 63 just for road trips to my second home...had no idea just how performance special these models are. The plan now is to convert to Black Series spec. I highly recommend them.
Its weird because its a very decent, linear yet powerful acceleration. Not as raw as the V8 Biturbo Amgs, also way quieter and the engine always sounds like it has plenty of power left. I like the V8 Biturbo characters more, more aggressive, but the V12s are more special. That being said, i drove this engine in an S Class. So this SL will definitely feel wilder.
I saw 322 km/h on the speedometer and that translates to a smidge over 200 m.p.h. assuming the speedometer is correct. Regardless, that car accelerates hard all the way up. Hats off the the engine assembler at AMG, he did his job. I think he was seen leaving for home in his Smart car.😳😮🤔

I was a student when in 2008 I saw one of these parked in the old town of Poznan in Poland. I thought that it's completely inappropriate, artificial and techno like. Today I get it, that's the appeal of this car, it is an industrial technology to propel you on autobahn. Hard not to love.

It's a function in the menu. The owner must have enabled it. A lot of cars have this feature.

Congratulations on your purchase, but the SL65 will feel a lot faster, and will be faster at higher speeds. The V12 has decent reliability too.

I’ve never driven one but I’ve been told that driving any of the TT v12 MB power plants is about the same sensation of a plane taking off lol
