    Nicely done. I actually used a similar technique on the wing for my weed crow to produce 0.5m pieces of wing (flying on the video you last commented on). The cheapest foam (EPO) is the best so far since it is verry light an can be made gradually stronger with wood and tape. Making wings like this is really adictive because one can produce these wonderfull, perfect shapes (or maybe it is the foam fumes). I have so many wings and pieces lying around... . Looking forward to see some more of this from you.

      Oh it's actually EPP foam I meant.

      foamidable lol I'm terrible at foam types, I can't figure out what the name of what I'm using is to see what will melt it. For all I know its the blue or pink or white stuff with the annoying balls in it.

      EPP/EPS is the white, cheap stuff with the big bubbles you seem to use as well. EPO looks almost the same but is more flexible and does not crumble so much. The more dense pink (panther)/purple/blue stuff is called XPS. But there are many other types like depron or styrodur and so on ...

    Indeed, i use a e string from my electric guitar and it works very well!

      @SammSheperd  9 років тому +1

      +Jarco de Rover I've switched to using that! In my newer video I mention it. e strings are stronger and work well on a lower voltage.

    Is there a good way to dispose of the waste foam?

    • @SammSheperd

      Andrew Newton has a video where he cuts scrap into thin sheets to be used kinda like foam board.

      +QuintenCr Adobe Premiere. The warp stabilizer is neat tool, but also takes a lot of adjusting to get it how you want it.

    Your outro is from an anime called erased, I think it's by "kung fu generations". It sounds a little edited, but I definitely recognise that.

    Are you sure a E string would get heated enough to cut foam?And also which E string:the thinner one or the thicker one?I think it should be the thinner one.

    So, I guess that... the answer to the winglets wing tips printing is??....... I hope I'm not becoming a pest I just don't want to spend about 300 in a new FX-79 when I already have two X-8 Skywakers... that is all! If you want to I can send you a link to my build up.. that since the new FAA rulings I have make all my videos private!

    What kind of foam are you using ?

    • @SammSheperd
      @SammSheperd  9 років тому +4

      This video uses white insulation foam, which is the kind made from little foam balls pressed together, formally called expanded polystyrene (EPS). The blue and pink stuff is extruded polystyrene (XPS)

    I found a variac works well for the power supply, you don't need dc to power it.

    • @akkudakkupl
      @akkudakkupl 6 років тому +3

      Yeah that is if you want to touch the live wire, sure use a variac...

    • @safetyinstructor
      @safetyinstructor 2 роки тому +1

      That's a death trap.
      Use a DC power source

    • @pikachu.922
      @pikachu.922 2 роки тому

      Don't touch the wire? 50Vdc will still be dangerous (yea, I know the variac isn't isolated, but it's a bad idea to touch either)

    • @safetyinstructor
      @safetyinstructor 2 роки тому

      @@pikachu.922 that's like telling a cook "be careful with the knives, you won't cut yourself".
      Yes, being very cautious will work but ultimately you're going to get hurt no matter how careful you are (especially when you get used to the situation).

    • @safetyinstructor
      @safetyinstructor 2 роки тому

      @@pikachu.922 I know I'm just some random dude on the internet telling you not to fry yourself with mains electricity but just use a computer/monitor power supply and some nichrome wire.
      I built my own hot wire cutter for like 12 bucks. Already had two power supplies and brought 20 meters of two different nichrome wire gauges.
      That will last for life and I know I won't end up in the electricians' Darwin Awards.
