Great video Alex. Never knew WJ operated these. 757 is probably my favourite aircraft after great experiences on continental MAN-EWR routes. Well done 👍🏻
Westjet is my go-to airline to fly with when I can. They have always had great customer service, and there’s something to be said about operating for 25 years without a single major accident, injury, or aircraft loss. I will happily fly with them anywhere I need to go if possible, and if I ever change my career choice and decide to try and become an airline pilot (always a dream of mine) It would be my goal to fly for them.
I luckily got the chance to fly on one of the Thomas Cook 757s between Calgary-Honolulu. Definitely a cool aircraft to fly, and a funny thing about the plane whenever an announcementwas made the PA would say in a British accent “Don’t just book it, Thomas Cook it” after the flight attendant was done speaking.
Can you do a video talking about the recent announcement of the new YEG cargo expansion and new runway? There isn’t much info yet but it would be interesting to see what you could find.
He always wanted to be up in airplanes at a high altitude when he was younger. His body misunderstood him and attempted to grow to their altitude instead.
If Westjet would have painted the 757 in their current livery, that's seen on the 787, I bet it would have been the best looking 757 on Earth. Anyone agrees?
I am quite surprised the pilot union allowed other pilots to fly the 757, especially foreign pilots. That is a very sticky topic within North America (Keep in mind Sunwing they have foreign pilots but go to Europe to help out during their busy season, Thomas Cook doesn't have any 737 for Westjet pilots to help during their busy season). I imagine it started the fire to vote to unionize with ALPA in 2017.
When I was young (a 10 year old in 2011) and used to live in Calgary, my dad would take me to YYC to watch planes and I thought the WestJet 737s were adorable. What 10-year-old boy doesn't love planes. I had so many models.
Interesting history lesson, Alex. While I never flew on WJ’s leased 757’s, I loved flying those; take-off angle was insane. Ah, the good old days. Thanks for the info. 👍👍 from YLW.
Yes, that was nice to see the 757s being used. The long haul flights with the smaller in size 737s is needs to be larger. I have flown 757s to Hawaii from Los Angeles. To me larger aircraft would better flying those distances. Air Ice Island and Air New Zealand fly the 757s on long distance and they are very good. To me unless those 737s are Business Jets or like you said ones with less passengers flying, it is a reach for those planes to fly. Boeing makes great aircraft but many if the long haul routes need larger aircraft to give passengers a comfortable feeling.
Did a couple of round trips to Maui on the Thomas Cook's B757s. They were older aircraft that did not have the individual seat back entertainment screens, just the ones that hung from the ceiling with a vouple of movies. I had my Tablet so I wss fine and I enjoyed the nice comfortable seats instead of the crap they are putting in aircraft today. The 2 times I went the aircraff were full so Im sure yhat they money on the fljghts as they carried close to twice as many pax as the B737 700. I enjoyed those flights .
Wonder at what point an airline is considered as operating an aircraft. And in the case of ETOPS, who held the ETOPS certificate for the 757? North American or Westjet? And during those months operating a Westjet flight, did aircraft registration get changed in Transport Canada database to Westjet or remain with North American/ Thomas Cook? (and I assume Cook would have needed to get CF regstrations to operate in Canada, right? or did the CF registration go to Westjet?
I worked on these 757's and speaking from experience they were junk! Them and the 767 were basically stop gaps until we got 87's. Sometimes double airstarts, frozen lavatories you name it. Loved working for WJ but now enjoying Retirement.
Westjet leased 757's because they are vastly superior to the pile of shit 737. Why Boeing ever abandoned this plane is beyond me. The ironic thing is that the 757 shares the same fuselage barrel with the 737; Only the cockpit is different.
Why does everyone still think WestJet is still the best Alberta company??? Westjet is now owned by a major investment firm and could not give a dam about its passengers or Alberta.!!!

"Everyone" doesn't think that. But if you really want to see an airline that doesn't give a damn about its passengers or Alberta, fly Air Canada or any other airline in Canada.
I'd like to argue that Westjet is actually only 5, since they commenced operations on Leap Day.
🤔

Every time I see the west jet 757 I always wish they had have put that iconic tail livery on it.
Just gotta wait before Simple Flying picks this up...🍿
Have they done that before? 🤣
@@nickybyrne9790 Yeah, they made a video about why WestJet flew the 767 that was eerily similar to one Alex put out a few weeks prior

Oh wow, never knew WestJet operated 757's.
I was making a planespotting video and i checked planespotters.net and it said it had operated 757's
We did leased them from Thomas Cook.

I still consider the Pacific Western Airlines livery to be the best ever.

I've always loved the ride in a 757.. It's becoming rarer these days - but I used to hop at least twice a year to get to Iceland and back!
I think it’d be very interesting to see if WestJet sends the 787 to Hawaii at some point in the future!
Westjet has been flying 787's to Hawaii for over a year already

ANZ doesn’t have 757s
Looking very nice.
My recollection of the Thomas Cook planes is the seating was very very tight so I avoided them.
I did not know it had the WestJet livery tho. I thought it was a blank plane.
just stickers most likely.
hey Alex have you flown Westjet from Canada to Hawaii.
i did not know Westjet had 757's!
Gotta love how people from Calgary ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NEED EVERYONE TO KNOW THEY'RE FROM CALGARY
Uhhh
Last time I flew Westjet was back when they only flew 737s With the IFE screens.
They still have the screens on the 737-600s. But only OGs remember the screens on the -700s and -800s
@@ryanhenderson5557 I was on the 700

Why did they lease the 757? Because it's an awesome plane. It's everything the 737 strives to be.
Damn I wish I could of seen these 757’s in west jet colours .. same when they leased some 767’s
I never knew they had wet leased Boeing 757s.
How did I never know that WestJet had operated 757's even tho I live in Calgary, Alberta. O.O
I wouldn’t say Westjet Wet Leased these aircraft. They were strictly chartered by Westjet
is the 757 still flying?
nicholas bartas the 757 no longer flies with Westjet, but it now flies as a cargo aircraft for fedex registered as N971FD.

Would a 737 MAX make the trip from Alberta to Hawaii without passenger reductions?
It's because they wanted to 🥰
More airlines should lease 757’s instead of a 321.
I can tell you the North American Airlines planes were very unreliable. That’s why they only used them one season. I was working for WJ at the time

Yup, the 757-100 would have allowed for 737 capacity with new larger engines without the issue of the clearance the MAX has.
