This is something I read on amazone in the comments of a DIY custom ear buds product and I found it very useful with good insights. Here it is!!!
    MOLDING PREP:
FINISH THIS BEFORE MIXING SILICONE ACCELLERANT AND COLOR.
PLEASE for the love of God don't just goop the stuff on around your IEMs stem. Instead if you have some extra small silicone ear tips cut off about 2/3 of the seal(part that goes in your ear) and do not cut the stem of the ear tip(part that attaches to the IEMs. Next grab q-tip and some tape(preferably electrical or duct tape) and wrap the q-tip with tape so that it is the same diameter or width as the speaker grill in the IEM stem. After place the taped q-tip into the cut ear tip and push it in about 1/4" past the end of the ear tip (in-ear side). On IEM stem side (sticking out of ear), Make sure to leave about 1"-2" out. Cut of excess and make the in-ear side as much of a flat surface as possible (right angle?). Then take the little monstrosity you made and !LIGHTLY! Guide it into your ear to adjust the the length of the q-tip. You do not want it touching your eardrum but about 1/8" away for it. Now repeat all of these steps for your other ear as well.
    SILICONE MOLDING:
So now that you have your little contraption your ready to start with making your ear tips. First you have to wash you hands , have a mirror ready and make sure that when the silicone is molding in your ears you move your mouth/jaw as little as possible. No talking, eating or drinking while these are in. It WILL mess up your mold. 60% of the mold is formed around the first 3-5 minutes so apply it fast, sooner you get it in your ear the more accurate the mold will be. It takes 15-20 minutes for each ear tip before the can be removed.
Now to begin mix the accelrant (white silicone) with the colored silicone with equal parts (1/2 white, 1/2 color). Knead this together in to ball making sure that there is not white visible in the mixture. Now roll your ball in to a tubular roll about 3"-5" long. Take your roll and wrap it directly along where you cut the silicone on your ear tip. Mould it in so that it wraps around the entire silicone flange of the eartip. Then push the silicone down so that about 2mm of the ear tip stem is sticking out. While doing this try to shape the silicone into a slightly cone like shape taperring off towards the end and covering the In-ear q-tip side by 1/8". Cover Your trying to preshape the silicone for your ear. (I know this is a lot to do in 2-3 minutes so thats why I recommend getting 2 sets in case your mold hardens to fast).
Finally your here, almost at the end.
So take youre pre-moulded silicone ear tip and gently insert it into your ear. The silicone should be pressing up against the entire inside of your ear canal and the cavity leading out of it. You will what sounds like quite pop rocks in your ears, don't worry thats a good noise. It means that the silicone is curring.
I'll add the finishing steps later but basically after you take them out let them set for at least 2-4 hours then make a small amount of silicone mix and push it into all of the little crevices.
This is all he had written. I couldn't find any other information by him

Thanks for making the video and giving the link to the resin/molding material. I've been buying kits from an outfit called earfuze but may give this a try. Only comment I would make is that instead of punching the earbuds through the puddy... I've put them in my ear first and then shoved the molding puddy around the outside of the earbuds.... seems to work just fine and avoids worrying about covering/protecting the tiny speaker hole. Thanks again

    Well done !
One thing you showed is really important : use as much material as required to fit each of your ears.
I tried cutting both of the material components in 4 equal parts before going into molding and, well, it's not right. Even with small ears like mine, it's not enough.
Using HALF of the material for each ear, and trimming after it fully cured, is the way to go (after all, that's how custom IEMs are made : based on a impression of the ear, with LOTS of material).

Has anyone tried this with the Decibullz product? They make both earplug and iems, but I was hoping to use my own. Their product is shapeable when warm, so you can redo as many times as needed. Theirs has a channel for the earphones and it still uses a regular foam or silicone tip. My problem is that none of the tips I've tried will enter my left canal at all. Maybe I should find iems with smaller nozzles, I just don't want to buy another pair if I can't make them work. I prefer these so much more than headphones and have a fantastic amp to use them with

I just went ahead and bought some of the putty after trying many, many different earphone tips (probably spent close to £100 now on tips alone) but none have the right fit (small canals).
Any tips since making the video to get it just right?

no other tips than what i already stated in the vid. the pencil in the mouth while it cures, push speakers into your ear and mold product around earbuds while in your ear and after you've inserted the speakers. i've done this trick a few times now with mixed results. i really depends on the shape of the speakers for better success. th beats i used in this vid was the best tho. Good luck!

@@CopperTOPDave I had a trial last night as the product I bought (Stanley brand but Radison actually manufacturers it) give you enough material to make a test plug.
It went well.. BUT I'm finding that when I have my mouth closed listening to music, the sound isn't as good as when my mouth is open (seems to block quite a good amount of spectrum). Wondering if it would be best if I make the 'real' moulds with my mouth closed instead of open?

Awe man, im sorry to hear that. Did you push the headphone deep enough into the material when you were setting it? That's about the only thing i can think of that might impact it that way. My bass response improved in my situation, and i've done this tactic to a few different headphones now, including the new Bose wireless pods.

@@charlesciepielinthemeantim7478 If you're willing to invest in another batch I'd suggest giving it another go and push it into the material to where you can feel the pressure or the speaker in your ear, but only just. obv pressing it into your ear too far will be uncomfortable and thats not the point here! LOL But I totally understand if you'd rather give up on this hack tho. I appreciate your feedback here! Good luck finding that comfortable headphone which ever route you choose! :)
P.S. you also have about 3-4 minutes of usable working time to get the speaker in the best possible location before the material begins to harden, just a tip i learned after this vid was made.

Well that was a waste of time and money.
It is night and day between these vs foam tips, in favor of the foam tips.
Foam tips are better for passive noise cancellation, very apparent.
Foam tips have better bass response which is because it's a much better fit into the canal, it's literally 100% flush in your ear canal, attempting to do that with these is not only difficult but brings up the next issue.
Foam tips are non fatiguing, you don't get tired of having them in your ear canal, and only in your ear canal. 2 minutes of the custom and there's just too much stuff in my ears, but not in my ear canal since these don't really work like that. You would have to bore a hole and then you'd have some weird fit into the plug itself that wouldn't make sense. There's a lot of bulk in the cartiledge of your ear which serves basically no purpose when you think about how ear plugs work to begin with. If you used these strictly as earplugs that would be nice since they will be flush, but you're cutting off the one part that is flush to use them in this manner.
Foam tips are generally universal, meaning you could buy a pack of 5 for the same price as these and use them on multiple headphones. This custom will only work on the exact model.
Live and learn I guess, by that I mean waste money.

It's better to not cut the material back all the way to the headphone stem. You can leave the material that goes right into your ear canal and gives you a good seal if you bore a hole all the way through once its semi cured. I've done this and it works really well, the seal and sound quality is way better than any other tips I've tried. The bass is really good. Boring the hole is a bit tricky. I saw someone suggest using a drill bit by hand 10ish minutes after taking the plug out. What I did was wait overnight for them to fully cure and then use a dremel tool, but that was very awkward.
It's hard to line up the earphone stem with your ear canal. My first attempt was pretty good but I think I can do better. The left ear has too good of a seal and it puts too much pressure on my ear drum. My IEMs have little pressure relief holes in them that get covered by the plug, so I'm trying to tape some string onto the IEMs when doing a mould to make a little air channel. Yeah, this is a lot of effort, but I'm sick of ordering new tips to find some that seal well and don't slip out. I personally don't like foam tips but if they're working for you that's great. These custom plugs should have an even better seal than foam tips if you get it right though.
