Wow, I’m impressed. I go out during the day and always get startle when I see sizable marine life in low visibility. I couldn’t imagine going at night lobster hunting. Props
Ho, night diving for bugs is for guys with big “cajones” (balls) as we say in San Diego. My son does it often and several years ago, a big 9 gill shark came out of nowhere right at him with its mouth open. He was quick enough to grab his knife and brain da bugger. I still ask him to go so we can make our Baja lobster tacos! Onolicious brah! Love your videos!
What a great session🤙🏼. Bugs, excellent eats and an ulua that shredded the three prong! Great content. Nothing goes to waste in the ocean. Not that roi or the ulua. Something dies to make something else stronger.
Nicely done, as usual. Thanks for sharing. Most fishermen do not share spots. Some Kau guys shared with me, so I want to share a spot for you and your gang. My spot. South Point, about 2 miles south of Kaulana Bay in green water. Was in the 70's so, sorry, no lat/long, only landmarks. Had a tangled line so was at idle with one very ugly jethead out. Green and orange wide cut skirt. Really ugly. It got banged and up came about a 40lb ulua, with about 20 other uluas chasing. Took landmarks, long since forgotten, and every time I needed to make weight I went there, and every time was the same. Biggest was 105, then 85. Average was 40 to 50. Every time.
Haven’t watched any good dives an awhile Jason, this one definitely hit the spot 🤙🏽 super murky over on Kauai right now, been waiting for a month to get clear
This same thing happened to me on a medium size grouper. Trying to reach evolve to get a new middle carbon fiber piece. Did you have any luck getting a replacement? Beautiful video btw. Glad a broken spear let me find your channel.
All Commercial and Industrial fishing need to be outlawed. Let the seas and oceans return to their natural state. Allow only manmade lake fish farming to feed the masses. Self-sustainment fishing is okay as long as limits are in place to protect from overfishing.
Awesome! Those Evolve 3-prongs are the best. I use one myself. One question about the stainless 3-prong head. The fish get hard time come off but do you notice the gnarled texture also prevents penetration and has a hard time going in? I notice that the penetration isn't as deep as when I use the standard head. Must be just me but thought I would see what you think. Mahalo for the cool video, I love your play by play. The real deal fo sure!
Yeah I’ve noticed that for sure. I still rock the knurled tip but it’s a little more difficult to use. For smaller fish like kole and menpachi you have to be pretty precise with your aiming. But I like it when they get stuck and can’t swim off.. But both style tips has their positives and negatives
Have you ever shot a fish without the tip on your spear? It puts a massive hole right through them. On a monster like that, I don’t know how well it would work but if you are desperate to slow it down, it’s worth a try!
That guy snapped that 3 prong shaft like it was nothing! Crazy! I thought you was going be able for grab um he was stunned good. As always be safe out there. 🤙🤙
The guilt is real sometimes, man that was a good hit and placed shot though. I had the three prong too close to an Ulua when I released so it didn't have enough speed to penetrate a few months back. Learned you can be to close. :|
fish; hey human how`s life going? human; oh massive ulua, strike with prong. fish; i just come to say hi but you greet me with toothpick whats wrong with you people??? 🤣🤣🤣
Really should not try to spear any decent size ulua with a 3 prong brah! Especially if its big and you try to brain it with a head shot, cause ulua have an armour like plate protecting their head. You will lose far more big ulua trying with a three prong than you will ever land!!!! Just have discipline and get your mindset right ahead of time so you will not try with the three prong. You end up killing a fish and never catching it. It's a waste!! A few of those and the frustration of losing it and killing it for nothing will hopefully give you the experience and wisdom to know better. It's a common mistake especially for divers who haven't had the opportunity to shoot big ulua much. Easy to get wrapped up in the excitement and rush of having a big one swim right up to you. Also, you teach the sharks to associate the sound and presence of divers with an easy meal. I've been to ulua houses where two of us quickly shot big ulua and before we could pull them in as they struggled on the lines, we had 10 to 20 reef sharks come in and just rip them to shreds and then more sharks come in and it couldvturn to a feeding frenzy which is extremely dangerous!!! You know there is a particular way to shoot big ulua with a gun, which has a high percentage of a stone shot!!!!! It's a secret fee people know but it is so effective. I was taught this shot by my friend Wendell Ko. He's a world class and champiom freedive spearfiherman, and one of Hawaii's best!!!! He learned it he said from the legendary Dennis Okada who was an incredible ulua spearo!!!! I have stoned a lot of my big ulua in the 70-90+ size with this secret shot placement! I got real tired of getting dragged around by huge ulua, or wrapped up around my legs by my tag line then bear hugging them and braining it with my knife!!! In the leeward islands, the big 100+ lb ulua's are so heavy, they bully the sharks and they rule the reef!!!! Especially those duper giants in the 130-150+ lb size. They get 200 lbs!!! I know guys who caught them that big. Those big "Cadillac" Aukea ulua are the bulls of the reef! Nothing seems to scare them! In the leeward isles there are so much ulua, they get so aggressive, it's insane. We used to hold live lobsters in our hands outstretched while scuba diving and the big ulua's would come charging in at speed and grab it and most of your arm halfway to your elbow!!! It's crazy and they literally will drag you around tillyou can get your hand out of its crushers in it's throat. They can crack you right in the solar plexus at high speed, and literally knock you out cold underwater! Happened to my friend and I had to put the second stage regulator back in his mouth and get him up to the surface and in the boat before he drowned!!! We wdre diving up by french frigate shoals and maro reef. They just aren't scared of anything and the sharks get pushed around by them!!! It's wild west and wide open bat ass crazy up there!! Sharks everywhere!! Have fun, but no three prong for ulua's. Just enjoy and appreciate them and their magnificence when you don't have the gun! You don't want to train the sharks, cause it can ruin some spots. Especially when you find a really awesome ulua hale. Those special big giany caves have been houses full of ulua for eons and the sharks come out from the deep when they hear the distress grunting and it happens quick!! Enjoying your videos.
