A core memory from when I was younger was seeing my uncle’s sf4 mad catz stick and immediately falling in love with both the look of an arcade stick and the feel of one as well
Lived in Japan when this came out, and I would regularly go to the spots where the pros would play in Tokyo and just watch. Loved it! Such fond memories. I don't think we'll ever get that again.
This is the "you have to be there" situation.. SF4 was soooooo big and the hype, excitement is something that hasn't been seeing for YEARS! Everyone was playing, the gorgeous art style, stages & everything, it was soo amazing, its really one of the best fighting games ever not just SF titles, and its impact is sooo massive, it really revived the 2D fighting game genre, now with SF6 we are entering a new era and SF6 looking like its gonna hit big! Funny enough SF6 its the highest rated fighting game since SF4! Full circle 😂❤ so many memories, just seeing these animations, characters, how the stages interact with each blow, its amazing, also its the reason why i started watching esport! That daigo vs Justin wong evo final was legendary! Since SF4 release i got to know everything about the FGC as a community! In the 90s and 2000s it was just the local scene and playing in the arcades but SF4 was something else that made ppl gather worldwide in a bigger way than before
i feel like the era of sf4 was kind of like guitar hero 3 in a way, where it brought people in because they thought the certain was cool, while also looking cool, which made it cool and popular to play the game at he time also evil ryu and oni were the coolest parts of this game and will forever be my favorites
I got sf4 back in 09 when i was in college. My friend would beat me over and over with ken and this continued on until ssf4ae2012. Fast forward to 2013 and i watched my first sf4 tournament online. From there a huge fire was lit inside me to get better at the game. I bought a fight stick and trained for months and i was still losing. But i didn't give up and i finally became good enough to not only beat my friend but gained a large understanding of the game. Thank you sf4. You really taught me what it means to strive for something you want badly.
I love this whole recap on the streetfighter series before the next one comes out. A lot of history has happened, and I'm happy to see how the community has grown
So privileged to have got into competitive fighters during sf4... i wasnt good at the time. Still really not a "competitor" but that era was filled with so much community and hype for a game we all played for a solid 10 years. Whats crazy is i have friends i met on xbox live 15 years ago that im still good friends with now (even tho we dont play sf4 like that anymore) to this day!
I personally grew up with the 3DS edition, and it was awesome, the touchscreen moves were a great help to kid me who didn't know how to do special moves normally. Not to mention the game looked amazing too EDIT: After watching the video, I am disappointed that there was no mention whatsoever of 3DS edition
Man this takes me back! SF4, SF2 HD Remix and Third Strike Online were my first Street Fighter games. I missed the arcade scene, but SF was a series I heard about and wanted to try. But during this period I only played 3D fighters and Smash. SF4 got me into the series and 2D fighting games in general!
I remember when SF4 was first revealed. I was sick at home from school, and I was on my PS3 looking up new trailers on the PS Store, and I saw the gameplay reveal for SF4. It had me so hyped that it brought me back into Street Fighter as a whole. I kept watching this trailer over and over every day until it came out. I even pre-ordered the game when the pre-orders were available. I played the hell out of it, dominated the ranked leaderboards (to an extent) and just had so much fun with my friends, even my brother, who didnt like fighting games, even wanted to play it with me too.
To this day, the first two weeks of Super SF4 was probably the most fun I ever had with a fighting game. All 10 new characters dropped with the new version (unlike today where characters drop piecemeal during a "Season") never have I seen such character variety in online matches. It's like everyone collectively decided to break from picking the usual Shotos & Top Tiers to learn the new cast! It was great! ^^
I remembered even around late 2007 when SF4 was announced. My friends and I were so hyped. We were all regulars at Arcade Infinity. And it felt like 100 years between then and the first time we got to play it at AI. We played SF3 religiously up until then too. I can't even describe how hyped we were.
I remember as a kid getting this game for $10 when it came out. It was priced wrong because there was two copies one was 10 and the other was 60. Went to the register and the lady was so confused why it was $10 but checked out the price tag and it was legit. Played Street fighter 4 a lot and this was a nice memory lane. Get video once again Max.
SF4 was the game that really got me into properly learning Fighting Games and getting involved in the FGC. Finding your channel, watching your content from SF4 to UMVC, Assist Me, SF3 online warrior, etc. Loved your content for longest time. I have a lot of love for SF4 and i am grateful for how much it taught me. Keep it up Max! Would love to see you do some stuff with the The Vortex guys!
All great Capcom games fall off and then come back just look at resident evil 6 and then look at resident evil 2 remake they all come back at some point the nostalgia will never stop and the first moments of adrenaline you feel from the gameplay is like Cammy ass you will never forget it and stop loving it!
You clearly don't know the history as to why SFIII wasn't a success. SFIII only failed based on the timing of its release while a mediocre game like SFIV succeeded for its timing of release.
SF4, especially Ultra, was a breath of fresh air to me. It almost taught me to get a full extent of almost every character. I Thank every pro, even you Max, for teaching some of the insight on the mechanics😊
Super/Ultra SF 4 holds a dear place in my heart. I put so much time into Gouken. It was the joy of playing a legendary name from the SF lore to me. Sure I enjoyed other characters (Fei Long, Gen and Yun mostly) but that was such a wonderful time. My PS3 is always at the ready for it and SFVT when I want to revisit them.
Vanilla SF4 - The era of have and have nots, being able to FADC DP into ultra was so ridiculously powerful a character basically either had it, or they weren't viable, and among those who had it, Sagat was king. Non-ex invincible DPs were just OP in general in this generation, since FADC made it safe even on block, and fire balls returned to being pretty good, albeit not ST levels of game defining. Despite some balance issues, this version will always hold a special place in my heart for bringing back SF, a franchise I don't think I quite realized how much I missed until I played SF4 for the first time. SF4 Home Edition - Not talked about in this video, but the home edition of vanilla, while not changing the balance of the arcade characters, added a ton of new home exclusive characters who were basically all ignored in competitive play because most tournaments were on arcade cabinets which didn't have them, so all of these characters showed up super low on tier charts till SSF4 when they were finally available in arcades, despite the fact characters like, say, Cammy, were actually quite strong, just the strong players weren't using her. SSF4 - Arguably the best version of the game, easily my favorite, significantly nerfed DPs and FADC into ultra, making characters with out DP into Ultra finally viable for the first time, and just generally compressed the tier lists as well as any SF game has ever such that an insane portion of the cast was viable and in the conversation for best in the game. Also added selectable Ultras ala-SF3, with many of them filling in gaps for characters who had largely useless or match up specific ultras in vanilla. Not relevant at high levels of play, but the nerf to DP also reduced the frequency of flow chart ken in lower levels of play, creating more variety at lower levels then ever before. SSF4 AE - Easily the worst version of the game, this version was so bad it eventually caused me to take a break from the game, which was really hard for me after how much I'd loved the first 3 versions. Yun was massively, and per interviews, intentionally, over tuned resulting in a stale meta of yun vs yun in nearly every tournament and at all levels I played at. Also I found oni and evil ryu super un-hype personally, game already felt bloated with shotos and they just added to the bloat. USF4 - Was briefly the best version of SF until people realized how busted Elena was. Never felt quite as bad as with Yun, more comparable to how strong Sagat was in vanilla, Elena users definitely still got upset all the time, but she was OP enough that she kept this from feeling like the definitive edition which for me, will always be SSF4. Also can confirm, almost no one I knew was hype for Decapre, the opinion always seemed to be that her inclusion felt like proof they were rushed and strapped for cash so they just re-used Cammy with a new skin, even if she did play quite uniquely.
Hope MK is great too! I grew up on MK but recently started branching out and I love all fighters for what they are and their differences! MK, Virtua Fighter and Street Fighter are my top 3 favorites Hope we get a VF6
I remember going to an arcade while I was visiting Tokyo for a couple of days, and there were just rows upon rows of SF4 machines and they were all networked up, fun times.
Street fighter 4 on the 3ds was my first fighting game in like middle school lmao I remember thinking it was sooo weird pressing back to block instead of blocking having its own button
This is so crazy, I remember I was about to graduate highschool senior year when this came out, I was so excited SF was making a mainstream return ❤️. Can’t wait for SF6
Building up to US console release, I used to drive from Reno, NV to Davis, CA just to play on the closest cab at the University fun center. The line was frequently out the door, and you'd bide your time til your turn with CVS2, Third Strike, MVC2, and 2nd Impact if you had to. The hype was real.
Max: Oh, it's just Cammy, but not. Max earlier in the same video: Street Fighter IV gets really really interesting when these nutty-ass characters (Evil Ryu and Oni) get added. Love you Max. Ya make me laugh.
I'm from granada hills, I remember seeing you at family fun arcade, good times. There was so much hype when they imported the SF4 Cabinets prior to its console release, and when evil ryu and oni seemingly randomly showed up. Loved that arcade!
the game responsible for my love for street fighter and fighting games in general. it will always have a special place in my heart, especially the vanilla version: the characters, the music, the intro, the announcer, the style.. what a great, great chapter.
Street Fighter IV was the game that made me go from someone who plays fighting games to a fighting game player who wanted to learn something deeper than just mashing buttons and throwing out the occassional hadouken. I'll always appreciate it for that.
i remember i was like 7 or 8 and i was in the car while my dad was explaining the characters of vanilla SF4 while driving to his friend's job at a flea market so me and my brother can actually play the game, and i was so infatuated by how cool he described them. that was the first time i've ever heard about SF or any fighting game before, so i didn't know what to expect lol. i just remember seeing the character select screen from afar and i think the first character i ever played was bison. maybe that was my brother, maybe it was me, idk, but that was one of the best times i've had playing a game, and i remember asking my dad so much to get it for me. around 13 years later and i'm getting back into it, still holds up as one of my favorite games in general
Maaaan, I remember when SF4 came out in arcades. I had moved to LA about a year before it released in arcades, and I was able to catch the hype at Family Fun Arcade before it closed down. The hype was unreal, brought me back to the heyday 90s. I bought Super SF4 on PS3 and played it for awhile, then it just got stale for me and I stopped playing. I occasionally play Ultra SF4 on Steam, but never got super deep into it like I did with the Alpha series. I was honestly just excited that SF was back.
The game that started my competitive drive. I will forever love this game. Not to mention, nothing will ever touch the hype this game did when evo was going on at that time. Rivals and so much more storylines happened. Forever grateful for this game
I love SF IV for so many reasons. The art style was unique, the new play mechanic was simple to understand but incredibly deep on both an offensive and defensive level, and the game felt so satisfying to play. I remember the hype around this game and it creating a buzz around the genre that hadn't been there since seemingly the late 90's, as all the various other games (including some from Capcom) meant that Capcom was competing against itself much of the time. But this game stood out. It was just as much fun to watch as it was to play, and I have many memories teaching my young nephew the special moves. I still play it today, and it is my favorite Street Fighter. And yes, Indestructible is awesome.
I remember how hyped i was for usf4 after sf4 getting me into this. it was literally priced £15 for pre order. No corporate greed fair price. I remember coming back from my uni dorm to find it’s been sent through my post in my home town, Best feeling ever!
The opening to Super Street Fighter 4 gets me pumped every time. Well... not the middle third, but the first and last fights, with Ryu/Ken, and Cammy/Jury/Chun-Li. That shit is sauce.
I HAVE A SEVERE EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT TO STREET FIGHTER IV! I might have been the only person who has a strong attachment to all the newcomers that were first introduced in this game (except Rufus) and let's not forget THAT UNFORGETABLE SOUNDTRACK! THIS SOUNDTRACK CEMENTED HIDEYUKI FUKASAWA AS ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE VIDEO GAME COMPOSERS PERIOD!! (He even did the soundtrack for Marvel VS Capcom 3 and a few bangers in Street Fighter V)
SSF4 was the first fighting game I properly tried to learn and I had to do it all by myself in bumfuck Iceland in 2010, took forever to become what is today Bronze level. But it was thanks to content creators like you Max making videos like the MvC3 Online Warrior series in 2011 that I kept going and I'm still here 13 years later. I miss watching the incredible matches in SF4 tournaments but SF6 has so far been awesome and I look forward to its future.
We just have to think about it. I was born in 98 so I didn't grew up with fighting games in the arcade. I played them casually, like soul calibur 3 on ps2 on sf4 on 360 and of course I got angry, I was an f'n casual. But then I found that one friend in school, he sadly passed away but he'll be in my heart forever, we played so many fighting games and digged into competitive. We always tried to match and get better than the other but we grew together. And if there is ONE fighting game to thank for, it is street fighter. Street Fighter is THE fighting game. We started playing sf4 on 3ds with the auto special help it gave and then went to pc, learned the motion inputs, got consistent and before we could realize it, we were a part of the fgc. Thanks street fighter, for giving us that great time and opportunity EDIT: I also met a lot of amazing people over the years over open rooms or what its called in english, I got completely destroyed but I learned stuff and met nice people on the way, the community is just amazing
Man, Cody in SSFIV is my absolute favorite fighting game character! Totally fell in love with his style and I would love to get some kind of variation of him in SFVI in the future.
Streetfighter 4 was my first streetfighter. I remember watching my uncles play it and wanting it so bad. I saved up all my money and bought it one day at a flea market. From that day on, fighting games became my favorite genre and to an extent, my love for martial arts and fitness was born because of it. Just has a special place in my heart
Super street fighter 4 got me in to street fighter thankfully. This game made me go through 2 disks due to laser burns and 2 controllers due to stick drift kicking in, and I don't regret it
This was pretty much my first street fighter since 2 turbo in the early 90's. I absolutely adore SF4, and the Shoto fighters that inspired me to pick up martial arts.
SF4 was a wild crazy time. I wasn't really into SF much but when 4 was coming out, every person i knew and every person they knew, was hyped for it and playing it. If fighting games were born in the arcade, SF4's launch was when the entire genre went super saiyan. I had never seen so many people getting into a game, let alone a fighter.
Umvc3 and street fighter 4 was my intro into fighting games .the community . The tournaments , the hype is nothing like it is today . I use to be on edge watching tournaments , hyped to smug and him break the fgcs concept on what’s good, diago the beast , pinko the monster , watching mike Ross and goo techs, Maximilian assist me , combo fiends insane comebacks, xian coming out of left field destroying people with insane punishes , ifc yipes this was before the commentary but this is where is started he was still swinging swords with Virgil with hooks in ass ,infiltration the monster with hakan .
Sf4 hold a big part of my heart i still go back and play once in a while online community was absolutely amazing back in the day used to get on daily talking smack and playing matches ended up going to a few tournaments meeting people and fell in love with fighting games even met up with a few xbox sf homies this game was a masterpiece of a fighting game sf6 looks promising cant wait
I was obsessed with Street Fighter IV at the time but never had the chance to play it online or my city had any sort of local FGC. It was kind of sad, but with Street Fighter 6 this is going to be different. Can't wait to play the game with you all.
I remember the reveal of this game, and getting hyped for it! Me and a cousin of mine put money in buying this game for the XBOX 360 (I sold one my games to gain more money), and I remember getting ecstatic when my cousin showed me the physical copy at my window. The game felt like a return to its roots of it being a simple fighting game like that of SF2. The original was the last game of Street Fighter on the console where you unlocked characters after completing certain conditions. I purchased Super Street Fighter 4, but refused to buy SSF4: Arcade Edition, and Ultra Street Fighter 4, as I felt Capcom was ripping people off of content, features, characters, and mechanics that should've been DLC (Yoshinori Ono (who was the executive producer of Capcom fighting game division at the time) stated the amount of data of the new content was too big. Thus, lead to the creation of SSF4, SSF4:AE, and USF4).
I remember playing sf2 back in the early 90’s at a movie theater and I was blown away! And eventually got it on snes for Christmas. Me my brother and neighborhood friends would trade off playing it for hours. This will be my 1st SF since Sf4 and I can’t wait!!!
Goodness. I remember some of those videos you posted of SF4 you posted back in the day because I watched and now I feel old lmao. It was cool playing this game and it was to play against some of the best back then like Ed Ma, he was really polite and chill.
That Kara motion for Ken is so difficult. It took me a month to do Ryu DP FADC into ultra. Ken’s Kara throw inputs are hard to master. In the corner, it’s even more menacing. Definitely worth getting down 100%.
Street Fighter IV introduced me to the Street Fighter franchise as a whole. Without it, my history with video games would look VERY different and I probably wouldn't have found channels like Max's for example. Top 10 game of all time for me.
If you weren’t there you can’t understand how much SF4 meant to fighting games and the FGC. It revived fighting games and had the biggest impact on the genre to date. Even more than SF6.
I was always a main KOF player since well... Mexico. I sometimes played another FG but I never played SF in my life. Back in an arcade there was a KOF XIII cabinet and close to it a link of SSF 4 AE between 2 cabinets. That arcade was always full of people fighting each other. One day I decided to try it and I became friends of that group of people that they taught me how to play SF and I bought it on Xbox 360. I literally played only SF 4 and KOF XIII I had a blast with both games like once I get tired with one I jumped with the other. Along with KOF XIII this game also holds a big place in my heart. I remember that the most I reached was like B+ online with Abel who was my main. Such an amazing game and it literally revided the FGC in my opinion.
*Fun Fact:* The voice of SFIV's announcer also voices Paul Phoenix in Tekken 8.
Price does the VA work for SSFIV and onward. Vanilla SFIV's announcer was different and the story there, from what I have heard from an interview (can't remember), is that Capcom had someone do the VA... and when the time came around for SSFIV, they could not find him back after his voice work was done. Same vanilla SF even though looking back now was the shit. Tournament mode and the corny music too 🔥🔥
Street fighter legacy will never die as long as Chun li thighs and legs are are around to say aknowledge me!
I sucked at first too, but then I began to master it, and starting beating people. I still suck at other Capcom fighters though lol.
The game that got you into it is always going to be important.
Indestructible" from Exile and Flo Rida is a certified classic banger!
SF IV "Is that fighting game that you always come back" no matter the years, because the gameplay, the stages, characters and the music.
WELL SAID!!!

Hard to believe it’s been 15 years since Street Fighter’s biggest return, used to be incredibly hyped about it as a teen.

In the 90s and 2000s it was just the local scene and playing in the arcades but SF4 was something else that made ppl gather worldwide in a bigger way than before
Between this and Marvel 3 it really felt like Fighting games were BACK
i feel like the era of sf4 was kind of like guitar hero 3 in a way, where it brought people in because they thought the certain was cool, while also looking cool, which made it cool and popular to play the game at he time
also evil ryu and oni were the coolest parts of this game and will forever be my favorites
Not to mention the game looked amazing too
EDIT: After watching the video, I am disappointed that there was no mention whatsoever of 3DS edition
Same here with everything you mentioned!
Thanks to Sagat in vanilla sf4, I began Muay Thai
I have to credit street fighter for my life ❤
If only sagat was in street fighter 6 we can all dream!
@@daviddennie4086 maybe in year 2 or 3 dlc
Dude, I started Muay Thai after playing Adon in SF Alpha.
👊
My turn to say that i love to hear Max talking about all of Street Fighter games
Street Fighter IV got me into Street Fighter the franchise. Also, I learned about frame rates from its guide.
I love the boss rage against Oni in this game.
I flew to Japan for SF4's arcade launch. That was a hell of a week. All the SF4 versions will always hold a large place in my heart ❤
SF4 was the game that made me love fighting games again, I was never good at it but I had a lot fun trying to learn and watching events.
It's a miracle this franchise is still going, after the rocky hill that was New Gen!
Try SFV trash start too. 6 is gonna be something special. Two more days!
All great Capcom games fall off and then come back just look at resident evil 6 and then look at resident evil 2 remake they all come back at some point the nostalgia will never stop and the first moments of adrenaline you feel from the gameplay is like Cammy ass you will never forget it and stop loving it!
@@daviddennie4086 RE is a weird case.
The hate boner for 6 was exaggerated, and the normal boner for 7 was IMO kinda unfounded
Indestructible" from Exile and Flo Rida is a certified classic banger!
Man I had SF4 for the 3ds I was simply amazed by it growing up on Tekken and Street fighter
Love gouken!
MK, Virtua Fighter and Street Fighter are my top 3 favorites
Hope we get a VF6
It's the way to be!
Us fighting game fans are eating well lately
Hope we get a new dark stalkers, rival schools, eternal champions , vf6 , dead or alive 7 , bloody roar , and battle arena toshiden remake
@@bigloc3442 be perfect timing it’s like a fighting game renaissance

@@Lloydo111 I’ll check them out🫡
Damn, you really are lining this series to end RIGHT on launch day of SF6. Love the lead up release schedule of these videos!
The second intro theme is the best fighting game soundtrack ever made for Street Fighter.
Would love to see a Mortal Kombat Legacy series just like this series. Its been such a joy watching these.
I found Max videos through street fighter 4 in the old days. It was what kind of got me into fighting games, and his videos really helped me.
I remember going to an arcade while I was visiting Tokyo for a couple of days, and there were just rows upon rows of SF4 machines and they were all networked up, fun times.
the original character select theme for this game was top tier
I remember playing SF 4 during my first tour in Afghanistan in 2009. My Sergeant would flex on the whole troop by beating everyone with Dan.
SF4 came out while I was in HS and literally me and the boyz had this in heavy rotation, with Halo 3 and Gears 2. What a time
SF4 is 15 years old, wow I remember playing this game along with COD back in late 2000's and early 2010's
The SF4 theme (Indestructible) is easy contender for GOAT
IV was the most hyped I was for a new SF game; before VI.
Still remember getting it early at a lil mom and pop game store, back in the day.
Street fighter 4 on the 3ds was my first fighting game in like middle school lmao I remember thinking it was sooo weird pressing back to block instead of blocking having its own button
Street Fighter 4 really blows my mind when I first play the game. The visuals were beautiful and the music remix for each character was awesome.
This is so crazy, I remember I was about to graduate highschool senior year when this came out, I was so excited SF was making a mainstream return ❤️. Can’t wait for SF6
The output frequency on these quality SF videos have been crazy, just a few days before another 20+ minutes of Dood.
Man I was amped when SF4 came back! I thought it was over! This brought me back in!
Sf4 was my first foray into fighting games. What a masterpiece. Thanks for the throwback!
SF4 3D edition was my very first fighting game and the series as a whole holds such a special place in my heart.
There will never be a more perfect roster than this game's roster. Every shoto, every SSF2T character, Evil Ryu, Alpha and 3 characters, oh man!
Man I remember all my hommies and my girl would play this all day some of us had custom sf4 fight sticks what a time
I HAVE A SEVERE EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT TO STREET FIGHTER IV!
I remember an arcade I would regularly go to in Japan actually had 16 SF4 cabs back to back!
The intro still is an absolute nostalgia bomb, for me
I haven’t heard it in years. Brought me to tears 😢
I believe SF4AE remains my favorite SF yet.
Absolutely Loving this recap on SF History! Thank you so much, Max!
You are one cool dood!! 🤘😎
This is where my passion for street fighter started
Thanks street fighter, for giving us that great time and opportunity
EDIT: I also met a lot of amazing people over the years over open rooms or what its called in english, I got completely destroyed but I learned stuff and met nice people on the way, the community is just amazing
Man, Cody in SSFIV is my absolute favorite fighting game character! Totally fell in love with his style and I would love to get some kind of variation of him in SFVI in the future.
Thank you so much for going back in History the last few weeks.. really enjoyed it
This drastically propelled me back into Street Fighter one of my favorite games ever. Always a special place on my shelf for that one
This game made me go through 2 disks due to laser burns and 2 controllers due to stick drift kicking in, and I don't regret it
"Indestructible" from Exile and Flo Rida is a certified classic banger!
These cliffhangers got me salivating for more Max.
This was pretty much my first street fighter since 2 turbo in the early 90's.
I absolutely adore SF4, and the Shoto fighters that inspired me to pick up martial arts.
Street fighter 4 was not only my first street fighter game but the first fighting game ive ever played. This game still looks great
SF4 was a wild crazy time.
I love the fact that Fighting games helped Max get to a point where he can now be a promoter of Fighting games
Still playing to this day💪🏼
I was obsessed with Street Fighter IV at the time but never had the chance to play it online or my city had any sort of local FGC.
Damn, these videos have been coming out pretty fast! And they're pretty great too!
Really enjoy listening to Max in these type vids and all the fighting game knowledge he gives us.
YES SF4 IS ALL TIME FAV -- GOT ME INTO THE SF LIFE -- SUPER HAPPY & LOVED EVERY MOMENT OF THE ERA
One of the first games that i played on the xbox 360 as a young kid other than lego batman, that intro is pure nostalgia
