we know! lol the camera fell of the GX460 and flew out the window and cracked the filter... replacement is on the way, please bear with us... ❤️ thank you!
Gear control is vital when off roading or running steep gradients. It’s not a “sport mode” as people believe. Cheers man! Just got my GX and I’m loving it!
Excellent , real world experience and explanation’s- listen and learn- I’ve been off roading (not overlanding) for over 50 years- FJ40 was my first real 4wheeler- I still ache from getting beat to hell in that vehicle- also, give the man a break- he lives in the desert- damn near impossible to keep any vehicle clean !
Why should he when the surrounding environment makes keeping the overall vehicle clean almost a futile effort? It's a desert with very harsh and dusty winds at random intervals.😅
Algorithm comment… but S mode is also to reduce or delete gears. When towing or hauling, keeping the trans out of overdrive does wonders for trans life. 3rd and 4th are my best friend when towing our camper on the highway.
Well, at this point, it will suffice to say that the S-Mode does serve for all of the following options; producing more torque to drive over hilly terrains, gear-breaking for when drive down the hill as well as aiding acceleration either from a static position or just after using 2nd Start to speed off in needful situations. This is what I can deduce from both your video and a few online articles on the S-Mode functionality. Thanks again for your inputs mate.👍🏻 By the way, have you seen a video on the Beat-sonic driving interface for GX460?
I always thought that s mode was mainly for towing heavy (5500 pounds). What people need to understand is that 1st gear is much much more meaty than 6th gear, that’s why you get the most torque but you won’t get too much speed until it needs to go to second gear and so forth, so when towing heavy and going up a hill your car will probably be in overdrive (6th gear) where the teeth of the gears are many and easier to go wrong if you are towing heavy, so that’s why I always shift it s mode when towing and going up a hill since since it will automatically pick 4th gear as the max gear available which is stronger than your overdrive gear. I don’t really use it going downhill but definitely can be used if you want to preserve the temps of your breaks and possibly avoid losing vacuum.
? When it's cold, below 40 degrees, transmission does not shift as quickly, ? slips. My reading is that this is built into the transmission to protect it???? Only lasts for ? 1/4 mile. I use S mode during this time and it avoids this "slow shifting". Is that a good idea or a bad idea? Any knowledge about "techstream" to program "extra keyfobs. Dealership too far, Too expensive.
So if I just put it in S mode it will change gears automatically? Because I usually thought that I had to manually shift it and when you do that it won’t shift itself
S mode just drops you out of overdrive gears 5 and 6. Coincidently it brings your revs up into the powerband so more power. You can use lower gears to engine brake going downhill but your brakes are cheaper to replace than your transmission
not sure what filter you using or what you are shooting through with your camera but its got a lot of reflection

I realize you’re speaking to the interior of his GX- the dust, dirt etc. just adds character and ambiance 😎👍🏼🦖
I just took my 2019 gx460 home today! This was very informative, gonna check out your other videos!
Congratulations on your new GX460 👏 how do you like it thus far???

Great educational vid.
Thank you for you support 🙏 ❤️ 🙌
S-MODE // Lexus GX460
Thank you!
Thanks, I never knew it like this
Any dangers to using this mode? Shifting incorrectly? Shifting down from 2-1 will in motion? Please let us know
The transmission ecu will prevent over-revving... ie "money shift"
Love your content, but man do you ever clean the inside of your car??😂
I'll do a video on it!!! 😆

@@dermotwallace5533 lol... "futile" 😆 that's the perfect word for it... anways we'll have a video on this topic coming shortly 😃
People don’t realize that dude literally lives in the desert it’s probably dusty 24/7 out there.

Yes spot on.. reading through the manual it says it offers you "6 levels of engine braking" 😃
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD Oh, indeed. Thanks immensely.

S mode in addition to DAC ?
So if I just put it in S mode it will change gears automatically? Because I usually thought that I had to manually shift it and when you do that it won’t shift itself
S mode will typically downshift from 6th to 4th when you engage it while driving at highway speed
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD oh I was wondering if I could use it in a drag race or let’s say from 0-60 to get quicker speed times. What do you think?
@@alsw1632 you could... but technically that's not the primary intended use if s mode 🤔
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD I think of it as a Sport mode

Transmission is much cheaper to replace if you lease the car and only keep it for 3-4 years under the factory warranty.
