I just started playing a few days ago (happened to get the Spiffing Brit battle royal recommended to me) and the tutorials are invaluable. I’ll play around with all these settings, in particular that setting to automatically remove signals is great.
@@thespiffingbrit I have had a good number of people come over to me to find out how to play this fantastic game after you showed it off in your steams. The community grows!
Thank for you continuously providing latest tutorials. Your dedication is highly appreciated, especially by newbies like me. I am sure I played more than 5 yrs ago so I had to learn it again from the very basic. Cheers!
Being able to prevent local authorities to build level crossings, is a setting that I have missed. Will immediatly go look for it. The cacophony of having multiple, very busy, train tracks with level crossings; through, or passing by a town... is the sound of nightmares. Ding ding ding ding ding.... x 100 brings pain to my ears. THANK YOU for that one.
Great tips! About the landscaping toolbar, I usually just use Q, W and E as they are the hotkeys for lowering, elevating and leveling land. My hand is already close to them as the hotkeys for rails are close by. Saves some time. The 'show cargo' setting is a lifesaver! Thank you! One of the most annoying things when managing on macro level is finding the right vehicles to manage
Oh yes of course, if you're Pro enough to be using shortcut keys then it's not so important, but I still like it even though I mostly use shortcut keys
Worthwhile: ctrl-clicking one of the window title icons allows you to reset their default dimensions for when you reopen them. Like, for the train groupings window that is often too short.
I would always recommend people set cargo distribution to symmetric for passengers and asymmetric for mail. It makes such a difference to how you build a network for these cargos, since people will actually travel multiple stops along a line like in real life rather than the equivalent of everyone getting on the train at Worcester Foregate Street only to get off again at Worcester Shrub Hill. (Asymmetric is also viable for other cargo if you prefer the fiction that you're facilitating a preexisting agreement between two businesses to the fiction that a bucket full of coal doesn't make its own decisions about where it's going on the train.)
For my personal preference I prefer not to use cargo distribution the reason is whenever I turn cargo distribution on I just seem to change my networks to get around cargo distribution thus making it pretty pointless unless you want to induce those changes.
Hello, is it possible to turn OFF the nasty notifications that come by the hundreds, in relation to "Vehicle is getting old", or, "Vehicle is waiting in the depot"? So many! They never stop, they come in threes: old vehicle, waiting in depot, has too few orders... Ugh. Multiply by a hundred vehicles.
Genius video, great settings in there 🤝 so many to get lost in, thanks for your guidance and upload 😎 long time enthusiast, and your knowledge in helpingnthe seamless transition back into the game motivates me to play again 💯
Any chance you'll go over the 14.0 and 14.1 changes? I really wish there was a way to export your settings and/or list of newgrf so that you could easily import that on a new install.
My recent OpenTTD video was about the 1.14 changes. And when you update your version of OpenTTD, you shouldn't lose any of your settings. Maybe if you're manually installing it in a completely different location or something, or if you delete everything manually beforehand, I'm not sure. Never heard of the problem of settings not transferring to a new version.
@@MasterHellish Ah, musta missed it. Yeah, I know it updates cleanly. I'm was just opining it would be very convenient to bring one file (like a json or something) into a new install on a new system that brings all my old settings and my list of newgrfs for quick setup.
@@MasterHellish Yeah, that does work. But that's a log bigger than just a file full of settings. And it can cause some issues if the 2 versions aren't the same. Basically, if I spend some time tweaking up my setup, but then don't play openttd for a while, come back to it after a few updates, would be nice to just be able to reimport the tweaks I always make. There might be some issues when copying that folder to different platforms too (like the android port) but its been a while since I used that.
3:55 bruh i didn't know I could do that, damn. I've been playing this game for... idk I played a bit of Transport Tycoon Deluxe as a kid. And I'm figuring this out now?
I'm already using 2x2 grid, I'll give 3x3 a try. I would love to see a setting in the game to make road vehicle running cost MUCH lower so that they can make profit. Also do you have any suggestions when to use drive-through road stations and when those standard ones? I mostly use drive through now, because they don't take additional space in towns and cars don't have to do 10 turns before they stop, so in long term they save much time, and they have 4 loading slots instead of 2, so why would I use those standard ones?
I started using drive through for both passenger and cargo. I added the 2CC Bus set and discovered with the large 3 part mega busses I can have 3 drive through stations side by side in my 3x3 street grid and 3 busses will stack up to load/unload on either side - so up to 6 mega busses at once. That is up to 1,410 passengers at once! If you have a lot of cargo and trucks coming and going it may be better to have the other station type and have a few of them side by side tucked away so as to not hold up traffic (anything beyond 2 trucks at a time...)
@@MasterHellish high variety alpine very ocean terrain some building space is limited. this one particular liquids terminal(8 cargo types) stylishly spawned on a small cape. looks fine for liquid goods with the stationgrf

You can also choose "Most Used" for the default rail type, could be useful if a new type is available but you aren't building it yet

Check under the “News” section of the settings, many (if not all) can be turned off. They do get super annoying!
There is a section in the game settings for all the notifications

Random towns.... That is crazy 🤣
Hello is there a magnifying glass option in ttd? For me the writing is small.

That's true, but that's not a setting, but a game feature.
There is a setting for general vehicles. Maybe it would be nice to split that out into the four different categories.
I started using drive through for both passenger and cargo. I added the 2CC Bus set and discovered with the large 3 part mega busses I can have 3 drive through stations side by side in my 3x3 street grid and 3 busses will stack up to load/unload on either side - so up to 6 mega busses at once. What do you mean 'unnecesarry vehicle blowage-up'? It's a great way to frustrate the competition by taking out their vehicles.
Haha... Boom! 💥
I want to play open ttd but the print is small.
Hi there. I did a video about how to change this ua-cam.com/video/wyiPWVIfyR8/v-deo.htmlsi=8JTR2yRRjsSUucY_
How do you use the command reset engines it says command not found
Are you putting the space in the command because it shouldn't have one?
The last change i made is the new stop loading delay. Handy for my slightly longer liquids trains
Do you not just have a station long enough for your trains?

How To Buy shares in Open ttd?
Developers remove that feature from the game because it was largely pointless and didn't really work as intended.
Another great tips video 👍keep it up
Thanks. Hmmmm what next
im certainly doing some of these like the landscape bar and stopping towns from building pesky level crossings
It's nice we are given so many options too
MH!!! Where is the breakdowns settings? At least should have mentioned it!!😮
too controvercial, risk of demonetisation.
@@PiotrDzialak to take stance maybe, but not to mention it!

I play open ttd on android phone...
Placing the signals is a nightmare when tapping on the screen 😂
Ahhhh.... But you CAN play on android
9:25 yes please
Anything in particular?
Instead of linking landscaping, learn shortcuts for landscaping and rail building
Or both 😂
Learning shortcuts is very important though
I have temporal grf and it says to turn off default buildings for better experience how can I do that
I am not sure about that one. Best to ask on the form or Discord
