This vessel made me audibly say wow when you put the tung oil on. Such a beautiful cut of wood, and an approach to using a block of wood i havent thought about before. Great video, i loved every part of it.
Thanks, mate. I was a bit puzzled about what to do with it at first, but eventually, I saw a vase in it. Since it’s quarter-sawn, I could also make some nice plates out of the rest and avoid that bark inclusion. Really appreciate it, mate. Cheers, Kezza
Thank you for the comment and support, Mark. I really enjoy making vases and vessels, but they are definitely time-consuming. Thankfully, the weather has cleared up just in time for Christmas. Cheers, mate, and Merry Christmas to you and your family! Kez
Well that was a treat to watch. I learned about a tool I have not seen used before by you or other turners. When I purchased my lathe it came with a very wide variety of tools. I have the tool you used to hollow out the vessel. Now I will have to give it a try
@@chrisjohnston2449 I’m really glad you enjoyed the video-I had a great time making it! It’s a bit more entertaining than the usual woodturning videos, so I appreciate the comment. That hollowing tool is one of the best out there and makes light work of all timbers, even end grain. Best of luck, mate! Cheers, Kez
Cheers mate, I really appreciate this. It took a while to make and edit this video. So thank you for noticing that. The music is always the hardest choice. The grinder is by Arbortech. Cheers mate, Kez
I think the end result turned out super nice too. Thankfully, everything held together and didn’t come apart during the hollowing. Thanks for the comment! Cheers, Kezza
Excellent vessel. Liked the style of the video too, seemed a little more "loose" than others, but i really enjoy any of your videos as your "youness" shines through each one. Hope you've had a bonza Chrissy and best wishes for the New Year
Merry Christmas, Claudette, to you and your family! Hope you’re having a wonderful time together. Yeah, I wanted to let my hair down with this video-glad you enjoyed it! 🤝 Kezza
Brilliant video, love how that hollowing system actually cuts rather than scrape - never done a vessel but this has gave me interest to try one :) keep safe and happy turning
A really nice turn Kerry and job well done mate. If there's one thing turning has thought me over the last forty odd years is patience and I apply that to life as well. All the best cobber.🤠
Paul, your response is exactly what I was hoping for-that’s the vibe I wanted the video to have. I’m planning to make a few changes to my videos in the new year, and your comment perfectly sums up the direction I want to take. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Cheers, Kez
Good job. I use the Proforme for all my hollowing, you can beat it for removal, especially with end grain work, Im clearing out 300mmD x 400mm deep bowls in around 15- 20 minutes down to 6mm walls, once you set the gap right and a tickle up with a dimond card your smacking it out like butter😉😁

Beauty! How dense are you’re cedar species? As ours here in Ontario Canada are very soft and a chore to turn ( eastern white cedar), the grain tears out horribly.
I would have to say ‘soft’ for sure. Did you see how it was coming of the hollowing tool, still formed short ribbons. Off the gouge it was a plucky but I expected that. Thanks for leaving a comment mate🤝 Merry Christmas 🎄 Cheers Kez
Pretty sleek looking vase! The grain width’s are HUGE! 😳. Is that normal for this type of wood? Just wondering why you needed the 880 to cut the blank or are you just showing off? 😜 Merry Christmas brother!
@@STMwoodturning thanks brother. Yeh this is typical of cedar. The 880 was sharp of other saw was blunt. 😎Looks cooler too Hahah. Cheers brother. Merry Christmas 🎄
@ the cedar varieties in North America never have growth rings that big. In fact, old growth Western Red Cedar from British Columbia will have growth rings about 1mm in thickness.
Kerry. I ve made some home made rests. Where can I buy that extension. The catches are killing me. Lost half a tooth a week ago. Lmao. Also I have a vacume kiln. I would love to send you some cool wood for free. Walnut, chestnut, cherry, Spalted box elder, dogwood etc. Let me know brother.
