Iwami might be my favorite battleship. The combination of good mainguns, fun secondaries and spicy long range hard hitting torps makes for such satisfying brawls.
How about the ship's armor? How good is it? Biggest reason I prefer Prussia, GK, and Napoli is that they have armor that can withstand heavy fire at close range which traditionally is the weakness of IJN ships.
@@roys.1889 You get the dreaded IJN vulnerable cheek. The incredible turret angles help to cover that weakness, but its still there. Iwami definitely wins the battles of secondaries though, and has main guns more effective at range (if you can stand IJN vertical dispersion). Its armor scheme is nowhere near as good as those ships unfortunately.
@@FrostBeam009 It's far less of an issue in ranked, but it still makes it harder to keep ships trapped in your secondary range (It's not fast or nimble either)
The secondaries also don't come with 32mm pen and the ship has Japanese dispersion which is terrible at close to mid range. Contradicts the short range secondaries.
The stern torps(on Odin, Iwami, Constellation, etc) are good for kiting and drive-bys where you can launch both sides without huge, broadside-revealing turns. Just a little booty wag and they're on their way - saved my hide and won battles many times in 1v1 and 2v2 brawls in the Odin or Graf Spee... occasionally even in randoms.
I run secondaries on any ship which has a secondary hitting DPM that's equal to or greater than Georgia's (this is from the third party web site). They may not be the most optimal builds, but I enjoy trying to make them work. In my experience, they at least help keep the DD's a little further back.
22:51 It's not necessary. The penetration of 100mm secondaries is already good. While 155mm guns can only penetrate 26mm, 100mm guns can penetrate 30mm.

From what I've seen, it acts as a standard heal on those ships, too. So 50% restored HP from penetrations, 10% from citadel. I do not know, for example, if a DD can take citadel damage from a torp and as such heal less. But you can heal as a sub or CV, yes

My most favorite ship. Iwami is a real brawler, torps deadly 20km. Secondarys very good. I have plenty of coal ships, and iwami always stands out above all.
Its a great ship I agree. But I run a secondary fire buld on mine. I've played agains many of them in battle. The secondary ones just keep me on fire. Good caliber and shell speed and gun angles.
I think fire prevention is better than emergency repair in brawls/ranked. You already have 4 heals and usually won't use more than that. FP stops you being a tinderbox
Been playing Iwami and haven’t been able to hardly citadel anything. I’ve been getting citadels on other ships in the rudder area! Aim BUG. How do I fix this?
Use the shell flight time number to lead your shot. Common to land shots short. The middle of the name plate is the citadel area on each ship. Imagine your front and back guns as a triangle. You must aim that point at the lead time of the citadel
Maybe your build. I had the same problem on secondary build. The gun control system is better. The secondary, only commander skill. Otherwise, you will struggle hitting anything.
@@BertusLabuschagne I actually found out that the shells have short range arc. You just need to aim a bit up the belt, or at the top of the belt. Aiming at waterline 80% of the shells will go short. Looks like a mod that indicates how fast the ship is going either full ahead or reverse. The more full the green circle gets, the closer to max speed the ship is getting. The more full the red circle gets, the closer to max reverse speed.
I got to say that despite the Shorter range secondaries and lack of a spotter plane, Iwami is leagues better then her sister Hizen in every other aspect.

A gunnery bug in an artillery focused game. Probably explains why WeeGee focuses so heavily on CVs and Subs. They either cba or just cant actually fix the bug. Been in the game so years smh.
It's not very fast which I find is one of the bigger problems plaguing this ship. 28.2 knots is mediocre but at the tier near enough everything is faster aside from Vermont line.
The CC flex and audacity to put a secondary build on Yamamoto 🤣 For normal players id recommend to use a high level DD or cruiser captain on Iwami. Cause none of your BB captains would fit.
