As a guitar player of several decades myself, I greatly admire Setzer's talent and facility on the instrument, and have many of his recording and attended his concerts. However, with this version of "Sleepwalk", he destroyed what is otherwise a beautiful classic instrumental composition. Brian is such a good musician that he has no need to "show off", but this came across to me as a "just look at what I can do" performance. That said, my admiration for him has not diminished. However, when it comes to slow songs like "Sleepwalk", and others like it with beautiful melodies, playing distorted speed runs, several times during the song, just doesn't cut it.
What an outstanding rendition of the 1959 classic "Sleep Walk" (Santo & Johnny) !!! I have no doubt that Master guitarists like Clapton, Jeff Beck, Mike Campbell, Bonamassa, Tom Morello are all watching this, thinking, "Ho-ly Shiiiit! The way he combines his amp's effects with his deft use of the Gretsch's volume knob.... just masterful!" Brian Setzer just took a quantum leap in my book in attaining under-rated, high-ranking status!
@@jaxone1259 I'm not comparing Brian to Jeff Beck, who is about as good a guitarist as you'll ever hear. I'm just saying that there's a lot more to Brian Setzer than rockabilly music, but most people only know him as that guy who did Stray Cat Strut.
I know he's good and he's a Good person I just saw a Video of him in a Room with a very young kid who he let play his Guitar and the kid plays some Stray Cats Really lit up Brian's face 👍
He's sold over 13m albums. He sells out concert halls and clubs all over the world. Gretsch Guitars (not known for endorsing nonentities) currently lists eight different "Brian Setzer" signature models in their range. Who is it that is witholding the recognition you think he hasn't received?
I saw Brian setzer during the rockabilly riot tour, one of the best shows I've ever been to. I had more fun watching this than satriani. Definitely one of my favorite guitar players of all time.
Yeah, Satriani is good at pop and metal for sure, but Brian can fingerpick, flatpick, do whammy bar tricks and you name it I bet he can do it. He can sit down anywhere anytime and pick up the guitar and play something in its entirety no backing tracks no band no rehearsal. I’m in no way saying Joe isn’t a one of a kind, heck I’ve tried to play like him to. However, Brian has worked hard to get to the level of playing he’s doing now and it’s amazing.
@@brianrust6139 absolutely, he got my attention in the early 80s with the stray cats and my appreciation has grown over the years. They're all great musicians, however Mr. Setzer is in a masterclass of his own ✌
He used to practice with his band in the late 70's, not sure maybe the Bloodless Pharaohs at the Massapequa train station late at night . Looks like it paid off!
The giant guitar pick, the tallest person in the world, the jackass who has to hold his phone up in front of you and film the entire show, the box seats behind the glass the a-hole who has to stand for the entire show even though he has a seat….the live show!
Who are the jackasses who keep talking throughout his performance? They're obviously there for the trendiness but have no appreciation for the beautiful demi-God level guitar playing by Brian
Mr Setzer is one of the best. I watched him open for Stevie Ray Vaughn, and if Stevie wasn't on that night Brian would have cut him. As it was I saw 2 top 5 guitar players that night.
I had a guy tell me fri. Night I was the best guitarist he’d ever heard. And he’d been playing for 60 years. All I could say was “ Thank you I appreciate that , but you obviously have never heard Brian Setzer live ..” He hadn’t. Yet ..... Great capture. A true MASTER of guitar .... 🤠🎸🎶🙏✌️
I'm willing to bet that not a single person in that crowd had ever heard Sleep Walk before that night. Brian did an encore on his own terms. I'll play one more song, but it's the song I want to play. And maybe I'll educate one or two people before I leave.
I know I'll get roasted on the spit for saying this, but here goes. I can't stand Setzer's version, any of his versions, of Sleepwalk. It seems the higher the calibre of the guitarist playing Sleepwalk, the worst overplayed chop suey of a version they turn in. Brian, why butcher a beautiful song? Why not play a composition of your own that showcases your incredible chops, and doesn't desecrate a classic tune? Just my two cents, but from the reactions I get at my gigs after I play a very simple version that is nothing more than a regularly played version of the slide guitar original, I'm not alone in my opinion.
Brian Setzer is the definition of a guy doing something he loves.
My personal favorite person to watch playing guitar. He goes to extremes and unsual places. Congrats mr Setzer
Thanks… I don’t know why I haven’t listened to him more…. 🔥🔥🔥
He's getting as much joy as he is giving, what a beautiful performance.
Brian, tu es le meilleur.
Brian is a treasure to guitardom, and to keeping rockabilly full of fire and fun

Lets not forget his Roland RE 301 space echo.......yes a great player...
This guy is maybe the the most under-rated (and versatile) guitarists ever.
Could not agree with you more!!
I'M AFRAID IT'S MUCH WORSE THAN THAT. HE'S OVERRATED AS WELL.
Huh ? Check out Jeff Becks version of this ...... not looping / effects needed

Wowaweewa ! Not many people can do that ! As good as he just did
He is one of the greatest
His playing is incredible to watch. Those volume swells... damn.
GAWD - that's literally jaw-dropping - amazing!!!!
The fact that Brian is not recognized by the industry as one of the greatest guitarists ever is a crime.
true this Mr. William and it pisses me off to no end.

But he is. Rightfully so.
Really nice... love that he loves Gretsch. Chet would be proud.
Lovin the sound of that Gretsch.
Brilliant. Thank you Richard................Mind-blowing
Brian n'est pas un plaisantin un génie du rockabilly yeah yeah yeah le meilleur.
delicious, superb, clever guitarist, deep interpretation of a gold piece of evergreen music , Great Brian!
Love this kind of music 🎸🎶🔥
Simply Masterful ❤️👏❤️
Saw Setzer open for SRV live with the stray çats once. Was great.
What a great lineup
He reminds me of Jeff Beck - great control and innovation. I play a bit, but can only dream of these heights !!
He is a real guitar hero, and so few people seem to know it.
What an amazing sound, artist, vibe!!

He was great as Eddie Cochran
in La Bamba 🎸
Just beautiful……..☮️🎶🔛🌎
He is just a phenomenal player!
A great song played by a great guitar player!
He used to practice with his band in the late 70's, not sure maybe the Bloodless Pharaohs at the Massapequa train station late at night . Looks like it paid off!
THAT wasssssss Amazing ! Love what he does.
He’s great! I have always liked his playing!!👍🎸👍
One of my guitar hero’s for sure. Brian is such a good all around guitarist.
Me as well. He’s my favorite player. That tone.
Incredible tone.
Love the Yngvie impersonation of fluttering hand at the very beginning
This was a nice surprise. Thanks ever so much.
Such a great player! 👏
I would have screamed out "Ritchie"!
Mesmerizing. I'd file that one under "transportation."
What great control of the guitar 🎸 fantastic 👏
I saw him once open for Ritchie Valens back in 1959
Not bad going, since he was born in.....1959
GREAT guitar player
imagine getting stuck behind whoever's holding up a giant guitar pick
This comment needs more likes
If Brian didn't see it, he ain't tryin to.
Jeez, 'look at Me' much? Good grief.
The giant guitar pick, the tallest person in the world, the jackass who has to hold his phone up in front of you and film the entire show, the box seats behind the glass the a-hole who has to stand for the entire show even though he has a seat….the live show!
Get in front of his ass with an umbrella.
I just love dropping big bucks for a night out to get a view of a genuine @sshole.
Very tasteful.
Not a ‘song’, surely, as there are no words. It’s a ‘tune’……….
I hear Blue Moon. At least in the first half.

wow he is sooo good

Much underrated and underappreciated guitar player....he can kick it with the best of them.......👍👌👏👏👏👏👏👏🦫🎸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
great
He is a great musician. I would like to see him do modern chops.
Fantastic!😃

🤠🎸🎶🙏✌️
the man is brilliant wow ! never knew Setzer had these kinds of serious chops
Unlike many, he's an actual musician and a great guitarist.
He's a master - amazing work
One of the best for sure
The real deal!
I’d say he can play better than most, if not all, of the metal guitar shredders.
Shredders usually have no musicality in their playing. Just remembering scales and playing them super fast. It gets old in 2 minutes
@@williamsporing1500 If I can't hum your tune in the parking lot, it was a lousy rock show. Music, that is.
Oh, Brian can play rock guitar as good as the high level guys. He just prefers rockability.
@@williamsporing1500 ...and they get to hide in a wall of distortion. Playing with just tremolo and reverb put's it all out there.
That cat can PLAY that thang!
Danny Gatton has this song covered - so mind blowing .
Complete mastery of the guitar! Setzer is without peer! Don’t believe it? Try to play this anywhere close to his version.
Whatcha out for the Strat Cat !
RICHIIIIIEEEE!!!!
Older Brian looks like a younger Tommy Emmanuel
Pretty well done on a phone. Good job.
Effortless command. That's it; two words.
The Big One
can you believe Brian Pasley had the nerve to get on stage with this guy?!
Who,s better? Maybe Clapton but different styles! Love Brian!! A real Cool Stray Cat!!!
I'm willing to bet that not a single person in that crowd had ever heard Sleep Walk before that night. Brian did an encore on his own terms. I'll play one more song, but it's the song I want to play. And maybe I'll educate one or two people before I leave.
The Eddie Van Halen of rockabilly guitar!

Setzer and Van Halen
A very underrated player….
Sweeeet..
The older Brian gets, the more he looks like Mel Torme. ;-)
🏆🎸🎶👍
Bring back the stray cats there is no one like them.
Flash git...😁
Is Brian Setzer really Tommy Emmanuel in disguise?
Play That Funky Music White Boy
He's overplaying in every clip I watch.
Great musician. Burn the guitar down when he wants to.
People should shut up and listen.
Nice, but I’ll take the original Santo performance any day. Simple yet far deeper
Dead between Perkins and Gilmour. Native intelligence of the instrument.
I can play a “C” chord!
ブライアンセッツァーは完璧すぎるくらい完璧で素晴らしいが、容貌が相当衰えてるので、そのおかげで、ファンたちの羨望とか、嫉妬とかのネガティブな気持ちがおさえられてるのでいいと思う。
Hmmmmm
I am getting old…Brian looks like Tommy Emmanuel now!
Is that what passes for a fantastic performance?
It would be worth losing a shoe just to see it bounce off their head and take that stupid thing right out of their hands.the giant pick (that is).

Completely agree
Muita nota fora da
Música
Era melhor ter tocado a original.
I can't call that a song; just showing off...
He was going ok until he forgot to stick to to the melody and instead tried to show off with all that widdly diddly rubish. A waste of time. IMHO
I thought he was going to play a song…disappointing
