Installing an eBay short shifter on an E46 320d

- Bought an "ebay special" short shifter kit for my E46 320d so this is an almost-instructional of how to install it. Not the best or most straight forward of videos, watch it all first. Not that anyone even knows descriptions even exist on youtube any more.

I am working on my e46 320d, this was very informative thank you. Even after five years of your video there is still no 320d shift stick video but yours only. Now i can take out my old engine and gearbox then put another ones.

Bought a diffrent shortshifter for my 330ci and didnt have to sand or do anything, Your video is th only reason i started thinking about getting a shortshifter, and now i got one in my car, thanks to you!

I have installed one on my BMW e46 and I have to say, it is the most amazing experience I have ever had, it really is worth it, and I urge everyone to get one!!
The only trouble I had was installing it at home , because the ring that you must clip on from the bottom was extremely hard to do alone and if you dont have the proper tools it will be extremely difficult to clip it on , so I had to take it to a garage to place the bottom ring/clip on it,
You installed it wrong, you forgot the snap-ring on the bottom of the shifter...that's the only thing holding it into the car... That's why it pops out. Just installed mine and it works perfect
Can you describe the snap ring?
Is yours and E46? Tried to install mine but the cir-clip wouldn't seat.

Justin Barkley turns out it was popping out because my engine mounts were fucked, so the gearbox was flopping about!
With the propshaft and exhaust its impossible to manover your hand and install thos snap ring in m3e46. Cut factory stock shofter just under the ball, Drill on table drill 7.5mm hole in both pieces. Add threded 8mm 3cm long double sided screw in the middle. I will send you foto of mine. Send me email to office@desirecardgame.com

I was supposed to do this mod to my BMW, but it was installed in it when i bought it, so it`s the most uncomfortable thing ever to go through the gears but thankfully they gave me 3 stock shifters so i´m going to install that soon

The reason 5th and reverse seem not right is because of the inner circlip on the shifter shaft. It sticks out and hits the bushing so the range of movement is impeded slightly. Dremel it a bit and it's better.

Yep! The snap ring has to sit in a perfect position to not hit in reverse or 5th
It's a fair effort mate but I change mine in 10 minutes maybe you should go to a mechanic like myself
