- In this glamorous video I install a short shifter that I bought off of Ebay and had to modify it to fit, as per usual with Ebay parts haha

i do believe that the short shifter was design for the ZF transmission carrier wich is slightly different from the Getrag one. I installed one on my 328i E36 (with the ZF transmission) and had no issues at all, but encountered the sames problems as you got when intalling one on my 323i e46 which has the Getrag trans.

Mines a ZF and I had to do everything he did today, got no 6th either and 4th is sticky

is it the double ear shifter?
Damn, been watching e46 videos lately about shortshifters and muffler deletes etc and thats how i gound your channel since the muffler delete video was the best one out there. And coincidentally you post this making life even easier! :D

Good to see you back with a new vid. Pity you haven’t had the coupe out yet. I’ve had my old compact out 6 times now and the only thing that failed was a standard rear shock top mount. Keep safe m8

I ordered one of those and I'm now beyond the point of no return (it's shipped). I'm just gonna take the bushing off the eBay one and put it on my oem shifter to restore the feel of the shifter. Wish me luck!

Engineered by a half blind person and built by 13 year old. How do they get away with selling a POS like that? Hat's off to you brother I don't think I would of been as patient as you.

@@marinocustombuilds going for a 545i shifter instead but the procedure is the same. Did you take your exhaust off to get access to the clips below?

@@marinocustombuilds Yeah a lot, i had to hold it with plastic ties, a lot of ties, because there was no way to put the ring from the lower side. i had the exact same problem with the shifter not coming through the whole. thanks for thhe help on the video. lol also figured out i put the shifter in the wrong way. so i can only go 1st 3rd and 6th gear lmao.
How do you know which way the shifter goes in?
@@alejaz8403 the bend is pointing forwards, its easy to see, if u line itup it shouldnt be super close to the ac

same model 323ci don't know why the reverser gear don't work anymore got the car for 2800 ways fine when I got it left 5 days parked and boom no reverse
That's very odd! Can you get it into reverse whilst the engine isn't running?

Even though this is all said and done i think you should get the chassis mounted short shifter also on ebay for around $140
Yeah I wish I had of gone for that one, still might.
it's way to solid as hell, not what I expected on E30 short shifter. Thought it be smooth and quick gear change.. it's one gear very solid at a time... not worth it... don't do it you will regret it .

That’s a great question - with a lot of difficulty! Like I said in the video I had to grind it down.

Hey mate, I'm not too sure, sorry.
you should watch some more youtube hahaha just saw a video where the exact same short shifter was installed on a e46 and he did it totally different then you and it all just worked. you jump to conclusions way too fast. You don't have to shave off anything and the shifter does fit in there really snug. you just skipped a lot of steps.
