Steve, The absolute best thing about these videos is the craftmanship of the work! You are using tools and techniques that the average joe can buy/use. Doing the work in your backyard/garage and using common hand/power tools. Giving helpful tips and showing that all you need is patience and desire to make something great. You have given me so many ideas/tips for future projects. THANK YOU!!!
This part of the videos on the build have been so incredibly helpful. I was completely staring at the wall with no direction what I was going to do with my doors/mids. This rules. Thanks.
i think the thing i'm looking most forward to from this entire rebuild (aside from those new subs) is the advise you give on glassing those doors. can't freakin wait to see how it turns out man.. continued luck with everything you're doin.
damn steve, thank you so much for these 2 videos... i kinda got it from the pics and the text on your site, but these vids just make it clear as day. so helpful man. cant wait to see how the doors turn out. keep up the great work
Sorry about questioning you steve didnt mean to insult you in anyway just wanted to give you another installers insight . You do incredible work keep it up
first off good job. I'm a carpenter, I have to counter sink door locks regularly so I use hole saw bits. to keep your depth the same on your first two cuts just measure from the tooth say 1/4 put a mark, then wrap tape around the outside of the hole saw part of the bit and when you start drilling your holes stop when the tape reaches the top surface of the board.....you'll get the same depth cut everytime
my way makes mass producing them a little easier because they stay on the original bored until the last plug gets popped out. There is of course other ways to do it thats just how i do it. Im sure i could change the sequence and still come up with the same outcome
hey steve wouldnt it be easier to start all the cuts then go allthe way through with the middle so you dont have to use the clamp it would still line up because of the outer hole
Man, if you're using CAD at work, you should definitely build a small CNC machine for mundane stuff like this. It would pay for itself very quickly when you take your time into account. You're drawing them up anyway, it wouldn't be that much of a task to export it into a CAM file.
hey did u go to college and study this?? im 16 and i hooked up my 2 12" alpine type r's to a jbl bp1200 and i liked doing that so i was think of what u did to be at where ur at thanks
nice dude looks fuckn sick! do u fnish the door panals on ur own or do u send them off with the rings u maid and have a place or something custom fit them in there?
Poor drill and all the smoking those bits will be gone in a heartbeat. you can break your wrist pretty bad. I was using a drill press and apparently it wasn't clamped to well. It didn't feel too good but I moved my arm out of the way fast so it didn't turn all the way around.
2:06 no kidding my firend did that and it hurt his arm and my head... he was like here hold this. I was like sure... then blam i got an nice bump in my head...
haha, joo make dat shit loo to easy i found a whole saw kit somewere in the house after i got done tryin to cut out holes for my tweets in my geo n used a jig saw lol but can i do this the same way with baltic birch 13ply plywood? thats all i use to build with cause i like how it smells, n how tough it is, not knocking mdf but i cant get it n what i can get baltic birch for i dnt need mdf =)
@meade916 Yeah man! I don't have pictures of mine online, but I used one of the free plans over at cnczone (dot) com. It was all pretty much bolt together, and I used 8020 T-Slot aluminum for all of the structure. For circles like that, I'd build a 4'x4' machine to cut them all at once. If you're doing this all the time (I assume you do based on a lot of your vids), it would seriously decrease the amount of repetitive work you're doing with that circle cutter. By the way, I like your stuff!
