Im glad your sharing your experience. When I was new grad I didn’t know what to expect and truly felt alone. I am glad the new grads can find you videos and know it’s ok not be perfect and that we need to prioritize ourselves.

I’m sure there might be new grads that are great right out the gate but I definitely wasn’t one of them haha I really had to rely on my customer service experience to have patients and the office like me!

Grateful for your videos and highly relatable! I tend to doubt myself as well and I’m 6 years in. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Temping for the first time ever and pregnant 😅

Hi! I know how you feel, Ive been a dental hygienist since 2008. Thought I would put this out there: Northern Health in B.C. has a few openings for full time dental hygienists working in public health. I made the switch over one year ago and I’m so glad I did. I’m unsure which province you’re in, but maybe you (or anyone else wanting a change) would be interested in public health :)

Did you have to do more schooling to get into public health? Was thinking of becoming a DHP but not sure if it's worth it.

You don’t have to be a DHP. I did go to UBC and I am a DHP, but it’s not a requirement. As for the pay, it is much better than I thought, plus benefits, pension, sick days, etc. Working four days per week at a higher wage in clinic versus five days per week in public health at a lower hourly rate is comparable. At the end of the day, all the perks that come with working public health and the decreased stress makes it worth it for me. Everyone is always so worried about the hourly rate, but fail to see the bigger picture. Hope this helps!

working a double column? so how many patients in a day would that be? at my office i have to see 5 in a row before my lunch break and i hate it. 4 in a row is my max and i already told the manager that when the main hygienist left.

It was 14 patients in a day :( and 4 in a row is my max too and has to be before lunch haha otherwise the last half of my day drags on and on .

Hi Dajana, I love your content!
    Please, advise 💕
I’m 32 daycare worker here in Canada, dating the idea of becoming a RDH.
I’m very unfulfilled a with my job as a daycare worker cause I feel we are too underpaid for the amount of work we do!!
I have saved enough money to fully cover the three years of DH school… would you consider a good investment? I’m sure this is what I want, but afraid that I might be too old and put all my savings on this .
Would you share your thoughts on this ?

Hey! That's amazing that you've already saved that much money to cover the cost of 3 years!. I definitely don't think you are too old to go back to school for anything. Even I'm still considering going back to school just because I love learning and always want to keep my options open. I think compared to being a day care worker the pay as a RDH is a lot more. I would highly recommend shadowing a few hygienists and see what they have to say. Also I'm not sure what area you live in but to be honest if I didn't get paid what I get paid right now the pain that dental hygiene causes me would not be worth it. The wages out east I know are much less than here in the west and from what I have heard there are less job opportunities. Just a few things to think about! I hope that helps :)
