I failed my clinical boards TWICE! Both times by 4 points. I’m taking it a THIRD time this Saturday so please send prayers and hygiene support. This exam is nonsense.
I also failed mine. They told me my patient was not qualifying even though radiographic calc was present and the director of my program found me this board patient. It was complete bs and yes the exam is a money scam!! They are a business and businesses are out to make money. They will fail you for the most trival thing. The ADHA and ADA members need to fight to get rid of unethical, subjective, live patient exams that mean NOTHING.
I've been a dental hygienist in a perio practice for 34 years in California the one thing that I've noticed about student who fail in scaling and root planning is the lack of learning how to sharpen their instruments, and not sharping during the patient's treatment appointment,,,WHY? My question to those who are about to take their clinical boards is why are you treating patients with dull instruments, because there is no better way to burnish and miss deposit but with a dull instrument so pick up that stone and use it. When I took my boards we were not allowed to use a cavitron it was only hand instrumentation. You need to learn your craft.
After almost 4 years, I appreciate your goal of this video. I'm waiting for a response from the program. Not only did I receive encouragement, I also gained some insights from the video from the alternative choice and ethical aspect of things.
The best video I have ever watched on the dental hygiene insight. I really like ur alternatives because i say exam shouldn't be used to determine ur overall ability. I am in hygiene school 1st semester soon will be seeing patient. School is hard.
I just took my clinical exam and i feel like i failed it. I lost 12 points for sure, ten points due to submitting my patient 1 minute late and two points due to forgetting to fill something out. I wish we didn't have to wait so long to find out our results.
The nerb is now the adex and it was challenging. I was one of the luckies that passed all exams first try but i think the clinical exam is by far not standardized in the fact that each pt is different.
so during your clinical exam, is someone watching you while you're performing the procedure or do they just check the patient's mouth afterwards and evaluate you based on what they see?
Just took mine. Failed. We had to pick a patient that had 12 pieces of calc in one quad, 8 posterior, 5 m and d of posterior and 3 pieces m and d of molars! Got a 73. We had to take 3 computer tests and 1 clinical. 2 ppl failed one of the computer and 5 ppl failed the clinical out of 22

I'm heartbroken. I just found out I failed my clinical boards exam today... I now have to search for someone else, and I'm afraid ill fail it again, and have to drive now 4 hours away..... I'm just so disappointed in myself....
Don't beat yourself up over it. I failed my first time too and had to wait a month to retake it again and drove 2 hours away to take it in another state. It was very nerve wrecking because I kept thinking I would fail again after failing the first time but I passed and you will too!! Have faith in yourself and skills!! The most stressful part now is finding another patient. Good luck!!!
KaitlynJV how hard was it to become a dental hygenist? were there any guys in your class? please shoot me some pointers, I'm thinking about trying to get into it because my job will pay for it. thanks
Q: do you think it would be more helpful if I did the dental assisting certification and clinical externship before starting an associates degree in becoming a hygienist? perhaps for more insight on the program, and learning more hands on so maybe obtaining a degree in becoming a hygienist would be easier, if that makes sense. thanks!
I think working as a dental assistant first is very beneficial. You'll get some taste of the dental world with less investment, so if you don't like it you can bail at that point. And when you become a dental hygienist, that dental assisting background will make you a better clinician and make you more valuable employee overall.
what do you do as an assistant? is it a boring job? I am trying to get into dental hygiene program but if being an assistant is beneficial i can try that while i work on hygenist
@@sfort515 it's a waste of money and time and unnecessary. If you want to do hygiene, do that. Being a dental Assisting doesnt help you get into hygiene school other than being able to put down you work in a clinic already if they give you points for that.

Put out resumes everywhere and got crickets. Was lucky to get the drop on someone leaving by word of mouth and got my foot in the door.
I'm hoping you could help me... I'm also having trouble with the clinical aspect of dental hygiene.. I don't know what to do:( I'm in my first semester and I can't seem to position my patient in a way that I will remain in a neutral position... I know the rules to patient positioning, when applied I find myself working in a not so neutral position 😒
