I’m a dental assistant and I make minimum $30hr, RDH always have to sit and wait while the dentist choose who they will see first and forget you need an exam after you leave a note in their operatory, which makes you more on go and rushing that’s where the higher pay will come in play top tier here I will not be used I give an amazing dental experience! Thank you for sharing
@@amorknox937 No I put what I would like on my profile I have great reviews and reliable so that plays a big part but a lot of assistants average that in my area through temping.
So cool if you don’t mind what state do u stay in ? I’m in Detroit Michigan Is it work the just doing dental Assitant rather than going for a hygienist ?
these are my must haves in my kit - EXD11/12 explorer, Barnhart 5/6 currette, Nevi 4 posterior scaler, Nevi 2 anterior scaler. I need to have fat instrument handles or my fingers cramp up working 5 days. For SCRP kits - I need to have all the gracy's lol. People have different opinions on this, but I buy all of my instruments myself because I like what I like and I like to sharpen often. I have severe work OCD so I can't function if someone over sharpens or misplaces my tools. =/ So to avoid all this, I just buy all my stuff.
So glad I came across your video because I’m about to start in an office as a new RDH and they do have oral cameras, do a lot of SRPS, injections, and they even do gingival margin while charting (which was heavy in school) … I’m so nervous lol
Thank you!! 🫶🏼 congrats on the job! It’s okay to be nervous but remember not to get down on yourself for not knowing something. These things are what gives you experience. I’m still learning everyday and I’m learning so much more than when I was in school tbh lol!! Good luck on your new journey! & yesss I will share my sticky note template on my next video :)
Congrats!! So excited for youu! Yes, just because you’re a new grad doesn’t mean you’re any less valuable to ANY dentist. I feel like you’re more valuable because of the fresh/new knowledge you have straight out of school. Good luck🥰🥰
I work for an office that still pays me even if my patient cancelled or no show. BUT, be aware that there are other offices that do not pay you for cancellations and no show. There’s even offices who will not pay you after the whole hour is done and you’re still working on your patient. I strongly suggest asking this question to the employer on ever interview.
I wouldn’t say that we make more than nurses. We definitely are on the same pay range as nursing and it does depend on the state you work for. I think one of the pros is the work life balance is def better! But I do recommend this career and if you do end up pursuing it, I hope you like it and goodluck!
@gwenfarrales OMG I came across your videos. I'm I'm from CT. Too! I will be going to Goodwin University I have 6 more Gen Ed's to take before I can apply into the program.
If I’m currently a junior in undergrad (general biology track) would I still need dental hygiene school? Or could I go straight into working in a dental office as a dental hygienist once I graduate?
I really appreciate you sharing this knowledge🙏 Did you ever consider nursing?I’m currently completing my pre reqs for dental hygiene but I realized they are very similar to nursing so I’m in between both now and I have no idea what to pick🥲
Thank you soo much! I actually was going for nursing at first but switched to dental hygiene before entering my freshmen year of college. I have family members who are RNs and I realized that I wanted a different path but still help people. I always like to say that dental hygienists are the nurses in dentistry because they are. Which is why nursing and DH have the same prereqs! I think you should shadow both RNs and RDHs and see which setting and environment you would love to work in.
I think $50 is the minimum these days, in California many hygienist make $80+/hr depending on the office.
The cost of living is higher there.
@@GRANDxORDEReveryone says this but the cost of living varies greatly through our the state.
I also want to join as dental hygienist...m from india
they're making $60-$65 an hour in the DC area

Hi Gwen! Just curious, do Dental Hygienists still get paid when there is 'no show' or cancellation of the visit?

It’s best to set daily rates
