I think the 060 is based on the 060s that were used in europe by the americans after WWII. They spread all over europe, and I think even parts of africa and asia. In this color scheme it reminds my of the italian-ised version of it. IMO its the perfect choice for this game.

I've done this run with double the tonnage and still had water left over. I think you just let the water run out in the boiler not the saddles. I also find the game uses a ton of water on startup and it is often worth topping up before leaving. You can also manually service destroyed engines, you just rerail them and use another engine to push them into the repair bay, fix them up and then push them to refuel and rewater. It will cost a fortune though, a destroyed S060 costs around $75,000 just to fix back up.
I just did the same trip with the 060, but hauling 9 cars instead of 3. After delivering that I then took 522 tons of scrap metal back the way I came to Steel Mill and after delivering that I used up 459kg of coal (out of 1200) and 2854 liters of water (out of 4500). It's an achievement in and of it self that you managed to run out even before dropping of your load at Goods Factory
You might be able to manual service the 060 by rerailing it and towing it to the shop. I think they made it so that it keeps the exploded texture. Might not work with steamers though.
Needs a 100% (all licenses) save file in the game though, but those can be downloaded, I guess. No need to play that one then. Just take it for unlocking the custom realism settings in career mode.
Top video Hyce, thank you for that. Comment on the 0-6-0 dance: Try working in a griddle car with Frying pans full of oil when you are directly coupled behind an 0-6-0... now THAT is what you call spicy! Hot oil sloshing around while you're trying to cook! This was about 30 years ago on the Great Central Railway in Loughborough, England. Amazing railway tbh and the one I grew up on as my Dad was a fireman when I was about 5 years old. Anyway, lets say that we put in a strongly worded complaint (basically we told them that if they set up the train like that again then we weren't opening the kitchen!) Fair play, they quickly reshuffled the carriages but not until after I had a severe burn to my arm. Ah well, those were the days :) But as for 0-6-0's, I would kill to have a 64xx Pannier tank in game. First loco that I fired, first that I drove. Amazing bit of kit! Thanks once again bud, both to you and Mickely :)
I've never been interested in train sims (except tycoons), but somehow this video popped up in my recommended and I'm loving it, even want to play myself.
You should embrace the logistical hauls. Somebody's gotta haul the empties back. And empties are light. Logistical haul + concurrent jobs II = long trains = more fun.
OH MY GOSH, HYCE!! I just realized you can go into the exterior view to watch the radius bar adjust to the reverser! You should do that next chance you get
I blew up two s060's just by walking away across the yard to turn in paperwork. I thought it might have been a bug from getting too far away, but seeing how fast yours exploded after the water passed the bottom of the sight glass, I think the crown sheet was the failure point both times.
Just a tip that may help save the F key. If you have a logitech gaming mouse or keyboard (possibly other brands too) you can set a F key macro in the software that repeats. I have it set on my mouse so that I can toggle it and just sprint away until I toggle it again. Makes it 2 clicks instead of 8000
for logitech, it's specific to the gaming software for the gaming mice, they can set repeating macros on the g502 for ex, but not the mx master 3 whos software only allows one press macros. Thats super annoying logitech
@@cliff4377 Not a fan of their software as well. Always used their old SetPoint with uberOptions which really was a massive improvement, but when getting an Anywhere MX 2, that wasn't working anymore and I had to install the newer one. Then it greeted me with a big fat "It'S gReAt To HaVe OpTiOnS!" screen and the only options it gives me is mapping a very slim selection of system functions to the back/fwd and the middle button, that's it. "Yeah, it _would_ be great to have options, indeed, you jerks!" is what I think of that XD
So I finally drove this thing in my game and did Hyce's route twice with no issue and plenty of coal and water to spare. Haven't had the chance to go to and leave the harbor yet so can't say how long the water lasts going uphill all the way, but so far it's been like a DE2 that can actually pull up hills, though it also goes a lot slower. One thing I will agree with Hyce on: the S060 WILL blow up within seconds of the sight gauge going empty. If you open the regulator you must constantly monitor and inject water because it goes extremely fast when you're actively using steam and one minute of inattention is enough to blow up the loco.

If you follow the Steam guide for unlocking custom difficulty options in career, you could make an exact copy of realistic but with far teleport added back in. And for added realism, you can disable "control highlight" in settings. I'm surprised more people don't do this, I'm a total newb at the game and it took all of 15 minutes to get used to.
mate Hyce i was doing the tutorial on the little 0-6-0 and i just finished it, had no clue how it all worked in simulator mode. i wanted to close the roof door whilst i was reversing the train and while i grabbed the door it just detonated and scared the SHIT out of me, i was in VR as well and it was the middle of the night in game and irl xD gotta love figuring stuff out the hard way. then yesterday i got the courage to drive it again as i was drunk as hell and i actually took it from goods factory to the steel mill and ligned up a 9 car train from steel mill to machine factory.... wish me luck
I really do appreciate the Devs on this game. the only small, small complaint I have is how intensive the steam loco running is. I understand what the Devs are doing but there really needs to be an auto FIreman or Driver for it. I know its a big order trying to code it all hence why it's a small complaint. But the amount of times I've derailed due to missed speed limits, or explodey boy from running out of water is a tad annoying. Still amazing game and fabulous content. Can't wait to see what comes of this game in the future
I know they're planning on adding AI train traffic in the future, so maybe an AI helper for the steam locos could be in the cards too (though its not explicitly listed in their roadmap)
I just played VR and this shunter is nice, it’s cool that the devs now added bells so we don’t have to have mods for them to work, as well as the cylinder cocks too and the running gear on it works so realistically
So I'll admit I had the same experience on my first outing with the 0-6-0. Picked it up at the Forest, ran up to the Steel Mill and after 2 switching jobs I noticed the water injector just … wasn't doing anything. Heard the crackle, tried to get to the service track but suddenly blew up. I can confirm that the saddle tanks were in fact empty already. I'm going to say the locos are spawning with half-water, especially since it happened to a Pro as well!
It was very funny when you thought, that you didn't mneed to refill at the stell mill, whilst I knew, that there is no steamservice at the good factory.
maybe not for coal, but I'm pretty sure the patch that added the 0-6-0 also added water towers to pretty much every station. you might not be able to fill up on coal, but you can on water.
49:33 Something I just thought of is the fact that opening the injector all the way while there's still burning fuel in the firebox is probably A VERY BAD IDEA!! Because if the crown sheet is sizzling, it's gonna immediately vaporize into steam, which will cause the pressure to skyrocket! It's best to dump the fuel first, THEN open the injector to cool it off, if you have any water left that is. Edit: EVERY TIME. EVERY TIME I SAY SOMETHING, IT'S RIGHT BEFORE REALIZING YOU'RE ABOUT TO!! _sighhhhh_ Who's the professional railroader here? You are, Hyce. Of course you're going to know this stuff...
hey, i got something to correct from 19:00 on: the reason that the motion is reversed on the 060 is that the eccentric is 90° ahead of the main rod, where as in standart waelscharts the eccentric is trailing by 90°.
I'm feeling the pain of having to TP around the map, looking for a loco! I did the same, when I was looking for my first DM3. I wish the game would give a greater chance at spawning the loco's we have licenses for. READ OUR MINDS, GAME! We need a new loco! Not a new DE2. 😅
Weird as it seems, I like seeing how people set their task bars up. I use the station maps far too much to delegate them that far to the right on the bar.
LOL, same! :D For me it's pretty much: 1 Radio thingy 2 Station map 3 World map 4 Remote 5 Flashlight 6 Lantern 7 Lighter 8 EOT lantern 9 Shovel 10 Wallet - Watch = Compass I play mostly in VR, so it doesn't really matter though since you just open up the inventory and point&click the thingy there.
@@Hyce777 Fair enough... at some point, you just know where stuff is. And you're probably still wondering as well why all the non-liquid stuff needs to get unloaded in the liquid stuff dock and the liquid stuff needs to get unloaded in the non-liquid stuff in Harbour... (Yards C and D)
So close! And yet so far... We all know it'll be mere days, if that, before someone paints that thing blue with red trim. And a big yellow "1" on the side.
That little choo-choo led me on such an emotional journey, and met such a sad end. The weather really matches the mood, rip S060, your little toots will be missed
It would be cool if the Devs added some light quest / story stuff to find around they map. Find a Teddy in the station’s lost and found? “A child has left their favourite toy behind, return it to station x”. Find an old key with the letters “H.C.”? Discover it unlocks a hill top hunting cabin and the player can find some buck antlers inside to decorate their train. Exploring the mines? Noice you found an ornate shovel to use.
I like the idea. Points of interest for that should be placed so every track leads to somewhere without just being a longer and slower alternative to the main routes. Give the player a reason to go that way.
Just a heads up, I think you could use the remote to remove the unwanted locomotive, dash relatively far and come back for a loco to respawn. A few times of this and the desired one should appear
Ah yes, Hyce's channel. Come for the train stuff, get bonus train game footage and Hot Fuzz reference. Yep, this is why I joined lol. Oh, and forgetting to feed coal....HAHAHAHA!
i do wonder if you can actually fit that thing back on the track and then shove it into the manual service, it would be hilarious if you could fix it despite it going kaboom!
By the way, Hyce, I just remembered that they removed the accumulation of water at speed with Build 95, since irl it's quite a small amount and usually just leaves the cylinders anyway
I tried getting a 273t train from the sawmill to the goods factory with the S060 and managed to do it in 44 minutes without stopping or running out of water. However, I may have started with an overfilled boiler (and full tank), I guess whatever bad things happen when you overfill the boiler are not simulated. Anyway, I reached the goods factory and used 1700 units of water from the tank (capacity 4500). Then again, most of the way is downhill so I could just coast. OTOH, getting a 550t train from forest south to the sawmill in the rain was "fun", the only reason I managed to do it was the fact that running to the station and paying the fees fills up water and sand even if the loco is far away.
A cool thing I stumbled upon the other day was a carcass of the S060 at that spur between Iron Mine West and Machine Factory. I think you get the handcar from there, but not 100% sure. Have noticed on my 3 uses of the S060, she throats water like nobodies busniess. Not sure how real or accurate that is, but I thought I was rolling with a good healthy amount of H2O, and suddenly BAM.
you can actually get from the sawmill all the way to the goods factory with the s060 (with similar load). i still had a decent amount of water and coal left after i got there. def enough coal and water to go to the steel mill and manually service there.
Seems like switcher locomotives with walschaerts valve gear it’s set where the rod is up for forward. The dance on the track looks almost close to when central RR of New Jersey 113 was pulling the Santa trains at high speed and doing the tango on the track that’s awesome they simulate that.
One last thing: YEESH, the repairs to the 0-6-0 are pricy. However, you probably won't have to pay NEARLY as much if you rerail and manually service her, since, you know, ya got that license.
The s060 locomotive looks to be based of the USATC S100 series locomotive used during ww2, they were ment for shunting and the occational short distance freight hauls.
More so the Yugoslavian built Class 62 which was based off the USATC S100 locomotives they recieved after WW2. Or atleast an amalgam of the two. It has the angled steam pipes and the flatter steam dome that doesn't extend beyond the cap roof of the Yugo builds but the frame and the sand domes that do sit below the top of the steam dome of the American builds.
41:00 The biggest thing I've run into when using this is getting it to rebuild pressure after its fallen off. No matter what I did I couldn't get it back above 9 bar without paying fees to reset it

The "0-6-0 dance" I've heard called the "One Bogie Boogie" from a few of the old timers that used to hang around the rail museum here
You might be able to manual service the 060 by rerailing it and towing it to the shop. I think they made it so that it keeps the exploded texture. Might not work with steamers though.
Pro tip: if you use the keys for controlling the locomotive, they work as long as you’re anywhere on the locomotive, including the roof
hmmm sounds like cheating (i say as someone who plays on an easier difficulty where i can also use the menu)
you could make a custom gamemode using the realistic setting but changing the dash distance
55:40 I don't know if anyone has said this but, you can service dead locomotives. You just have to rerail it and drag it back to a servicing point.
You would need some really cheap firemen to take on the job of firing a loco that has just been repaired after the boiler went pop.......
You should do that next chance you get
He's playing g on realistic so none of that for him
@@Darthalamus Oh....oof
"Let's be responsible firemen and take care of priority #1..." *ignores priority #1* XD
"Can we go that fast?" He said. As smells like kenosha suddenly got louder.

“The moment we’ve all been waiting for”
I’ve replied to this before, but this should be told everywhere. The DV 060 is based upon the Yugo copies (Class 62’s), which in turn are based on the USATC S100’s. There were two versions of the 62’s, DV is closest to the later built versions having the bent steam pipes.
It’s no wonder why Hyce likes this loco so much, it a USA-like loco in disguise
Something to consider when running a decently heavy train, you can blow the cylinder head on it. I did pulling a decent load out of the harbor
Love your reaction to the whistle. Almost as funny as your reaction to the steam turbine locomotives whistle.
So close, yet so far.
A single tear 😢 for the little 0-6-0, it gave it everything it had.
I'm positive that hyce spent 7 minutes looking for the 060 due to his refusal to go to the farm 😂
"You could not live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? Back to me." - DE2
you should add Derail Valley Career Ep. 3 to video name for it to be easier to be found
It was very funny when you thought, that you didn't mneed to refill at the stell mill, whilst I knew, that there is no steamservice at the good factory.
maybe not for coal, but I'm pretty sure the patch that added the 0-6-0 also added water towers to pretty much every station. you might not be able to fill up on coal, but you can on water.
Well, at least we know Hyce's last words during an accidental boiler explosion. "OoOh!" XD
The song and the timing for the kaboom were simply perfect.
Fun quote of the day: "Every steam whistle made on a Sunday is answered by a shout from hell."
hey, i got something to correct from 19:00 on:
the reason that the motion is reversed on the 060 is that the eccentric is 90° ahead of the main rod, where as in standart waelscharts the eccentric is trailing by 90°.
LOL, same! :D
For me it's pretty much:
1 Radio thingy
2 Station map
3 World map
4 Remote
5 Flashlight
6 Lantern
7 Lighter
8 EOT lantern
9 Shovel
10 Wallet
- Watch
= Compass
I play mostly in VR, so it doesn't really matter though since you just open up the inventory and point&click the thingy there.
I've got most of the stations down pat from years of playing so I don't need it as much anymore. Critical early on though!
(Yards C and D)
if youre curious about how much the s060 can haul, i was just BARELY able to make it up a 2% with 399 tons, but you have to work the hell out of it
you know, when Hyce was trying to find the tank engine, the only thing that went through my head was, "confusion and delay"
So close! And yet so far...
We all know it'll be mere days, if that, before someone paints that thing blue with red trim. And a big yellow "1" on the side.

Alternate title: Hyce spends 10 minutes blasting his money into teleporting places to find choo choo.
That little choo-choo led me on such an emotional journey, and met such a sad end. The weather really matches the mood, rip S060, your little toots will be missed
The 0-6-0 kinda looks like Rosey from Thomas and Friends and an American locomotive mixed with British boffers
Boffers
@@happymark1668 I'm half awake
This is a certified Really Useful Engine
If you press alt and bring up the mouse you can interact with things without having to move the mouse like that! Keep up the good work!
Honestly I like the screaming whistles on little shunters like these, it just makes them kind of cuter ngl
UA-cam decided to put an ad right when the.. thing happened.. so I got ONE FRAME of it. Hilarious!
Hyce: "Poor Baby!"
S060: *Falls over* "I'm tired. Let me sleep it off."
Just a heads up, I think you could use the remote to remove the unwanted locomotive, dash relatively far and come back for a loco to respawn. A few times of this and the desired one should appear
Simpler method; reloading changes what loco is spawned (usually idk specifics)
Always a good day when hyce uploads, also the sun roof hatch reaction made me lol
I GOT AN AD RIGHT AS HYCE STARTED SCREAMING WHEN THE BOILER EXPLODED 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ah yes, Hyce's channel. Come for the train stuff, get bonus train game footage and Hot Fuzz reference. Yep, this is why I joined lol. Oh, and forgetting to feed coal....HAHAHAHA!
i do wonder if you can actually fit that thing back on the track and then shove it into the manual service, it would be hilarious if you could fix it despite it going kaboom!
In todays Episode Hyce gets trolled by the DV Devs
little adition to the fun if you stand on the turntable you can turn it by clicking the buttons on the top middle of your screen! :D
Hyce wasn't this supposed to be your legit run 😂 hail the ES&D
There is now a mod that gives you always daylight. It’s called DV No Night.
If the ES&D ever had a building, the sign would probably look like:
ES&D
"We've got places to be!"
So um, what are the fireman's priorities again?
A cool thing I stumbled upon the other day was a carcass of the S060 at that spur between Iron Mine West and Machine Factory. I think you get the handcar from there, but not 100% sure.
Have noticed on my 3 uses of the S060, she throats water like nobodies busniess. Not sure how real or accurate that is, but I thought I was rolling with a good healthy amount of H2O, and suddenly BAM.
It literally was standing right there since the first Simulator update, waiting for its release :)
you can actually get from the sawmill all the way to the goods factory with the s060 (with similar load). i still had a decent amount of water and coal left after i got there. def enough coal and water to go to the steel mill and manually service there.
11:49 the pure excitement about a hatch
Seems like switcher locomotives with walschaerts valve gear it’s set where the rod is up for forward. The dance on the track looks almost close to when central RR of New Jersey 113 was pulling the Santa trains at high speed and doing the tango on the track that’s awesome they simulate that.
37:00 as someone who has had a cab ride in an 0-4-0 saddle tank, I can confirm this statement
Your references to Hot Fuzz made me so happy.
A Hyce Hatch? How thoughtful!
Let me guess, Kaboom.
Fun Fact: The original basis of the engine that this model's based off of worked alongside Thomas the Tank Engine's class at Southampton.
No.

It has the angled steam pipes and the flatter steam dome that doesn't extend beyond the cap roof of the Yugo builds but the frame and the sand domes that do sit below the top of the steam dome of the American builds.
the jiggly handle may actualy be a handpump

That boiler explosion was hilarious
I made that same run right before watching the video. Was my first time running steam in DV. Made it without detonating the engine though :)
41:00 The biggest thing I've run into when using this is getting it to rebuild pressure after its fallen off. No matter what I did I couldn't get it back above 9 bar without paying fees to reset it
RIP S060 the little steam engine that could. Probably shouldn't of 😭😭😭
