I found this man's music when I was a teenager and I used to vibe to this song a lot. Unknowing to me I'd end up spiralling into my own addictions but now as a 30 year old 'clean living man' it brings me such joy to come back to this classic. Always loved this man's energy.
Saw him play last night in portland and he looked out over the crowd and said "If you are not happy where you are at, you will never be happy where you are going" Amazing musician and a deep thinker.
He's not exactly speaking to a crowd of "Jews in Auschwitz" when he says to a crowd of people who freely paid their excess disposable income to enjoy a music show...he's speaking to the masses of decadent, hedonistic, yet still unsatisfied and unhappy people that make up the first world. If you listened to the other things he's said through his music and at other shows, you'd understand that he probably had a similar mentality to you in the past, and realized that there's no value in viewing the world as a shit hole, and that "being aware" of the horrible things that happen in our world doesn't necessitate viewing it as a shit hole. You can still enjoy your life and appreciate what you have while being aware and compassionate for those who have less. If more people appreciated what they had and fewer viewed everything as you do (with this ridiculous nihilism accompanied with a superiority complex that causes you to view everyone as a "muppet" because you think your analysis of the world is the only one based in any intellect or reason) there would probably be fewer people complaining about the problems with the world and more people doing something about it. Tell me what you have done to enrich the lives of the people around you that is so much better than a musician who shares his work to express himself and better understand himself, if you want to be so judgmental of a statement he made to a specific group of people. Long story short; If you were willing to listen and actually consider what was said, you might realize this statement was directed at YOU.
I used to think soul had died out in music until I found John Butler Trio...... This guy can easily be written down as one of the most influential guitarists of this generation, and I would go as far as to say the greatest guitarist as well; no other musician has moved me nor inspired me (lately) as this man has.
This was the first song he played at Red Rock in colorado. Everyone was blazin up haha. JB is the craziest gutair player i've ever seen! I don't know how he played for almost 5 hours straight with his fingers moving non stop! Everyone needs to see them live it is definetly an experience of a life time:)
this song is fantastic. JB has always had brilliant lyrics. there's not enough artists in the Australian music industry with as much talent as this man.
We need more people promoting peace in this world... John is truely amazing (live) . He is a Legend. There is far to much hate in this world... Peace, Love, and Respect all!!! ♥~~~PEACE~~~♥
very powerful video shows that mostly everyone is to into there phones and business and caught up in themselfs that they may hear a song or a message or what ever but not actually hear it and when the kid comes in you can see hes actually listening to the song, we should all live more like the kid and stop being so materialistic, jah bless
It's 2017 and I am just now finding this song after hearing it played during a food related documentary. This is a great song, and the lyrics are on point.
this man is a muscian. Every decade or so someone comes along and revolutionizes music, Beetles/Lennon, Zeppelin, Nirvana, Yardbirds, are these guys it? God knows we need it. Can't believe how much sound they get from three guys. My favorite thing about them is how they cannot be put in a genra because no song sounds the same.
pascal100971 damn skippy. JBT has been my favorite many many years. Welcome to the good shit. If you get the change to see him live take it. His solos on the guitar are fucking amazing.
I love the lyrics, music and musoship. JBT you manage to show the world the true spirit of Australia in the genuis of your music and playing, Thanks heaps!!!
I have to agree with both parts of that. I saw JBT for the first time live a month ago at Memphis in May fest and I was absolutely stunned. From the first note to the last it was flawless. No way I could've fallen asleep...or even sat down.
mate have you listened to the lyrics? at the end of the first verse he says "prozac add tables coke smack now you know im turning tricks".. hes saying hes changing from all that coz he used to be off his head and caught up in society.. AWESOME song never gets old!!!!
Huge fan love this song, respect the artist. IMO this song is not about food, it's about what we are fed (BS, lies, so called needs and wannabe greed's). It's not about drugs it's about being asleep and content in our ignorance and lust for more as consumers. High on life, and blind to the toxicity of our environment and culture. MAD RESPECT! GREAT SONG.
The John Butler Trio are an eclectic roots/jam band from Australia led by guitarist and vocalist John Butler. Two of the band's albums - Three (2001) and Living 2001-2002 (2003) - have gone platinum in Australia and reached the top ten of the Australian album charts in those years. The 2004 album Sunrise Over Sea debuted at number one on the Australian charts on March 15, 2004 reaching gold record status in its first week on sale. JBT RULES !!!
We need more people promoting peace in this world... Its good to see John getting some recognition here in the united states.. John is truely amazing (live) . He is a Legend. There is far to much hate in this world... Peace, Love, and Respect all!!! ♥~~~PEACE~~~♥
I read or heard somewhere that John keeps switching the other two members because he likes to keep being original and switch things up a bit. Thats pretty cool.
Have not heard this in so long! Love it! I Am Not Okay With This is out now. Okay? Ok. K. Been clean and sober for 3 years now. Still gotta quit the caffeine and cigarettes tho.
sure you can. i've been doing it for a year and a half. no money, guitar, backpack. hitching, busking, couchsurfing... once in a while it's shit but for the most part it's been nothing but amazing adventures and connections.
love how the drummer very slowly speeds the song up instead of trying to be a human metronome. but its really subtle. just try listening to a bit of the end of the song, and then a bit of the start and you'll notice. its amazing
i heart michael barker!!! awesome man JBT is awesome i saw them twice and had the chance to talk to them, very nice men! when do they comme back in lille????
yay this guy is from south west WA home bred awesomeness if you dont like jhon buttler you live under a rock plus this is off a great WA movie stone bros :D awesome song
I listen to this song EVERY morning when I wake up! It's about the quality of life... not possessions and obsessions... Although I DO have a bit of an addition to JBT!!!
He got the electric about a week before this was shot. The actual recording was on his Maton. This was shot in Hollywood at the end of a tour and all his other guitars were packed up, and he was kinda loving that electric. It is a Gibson and a older one at that but exactly wat it is has slipped my mind.
That may be misleading, The "band" is from Australia, John Butler is from Cali but moved to Aus. Regarless if you get a chance or are blessed enough to catch them live DO IT !! Its like a religious experience. Unbelievable!! ~PEACE~
@77pebble food matters didn't bring me here but this comment brought me to it. Awesome documentary I really enjoyed it and I'm trying to change my diet to mostly raw food now
Sober since this past labor day. Learned this song from a good friend in rehab in Texas. Shout-out to "Sunshine"!!
♡♡
Hope your still sober... much love 💕
Congrats. Keep going!😊
Keep it clean if that’s what you’re doing ✌️

Because the whole of Aus has watched it twice
@@nickchap You know over 26 million people live in Aus right?

This song is not about smoking weed. It's about being addicted to society and now he does his own thing. It's not about your drug addiction.
