The 20 armor to the paratroopers only with the support company is very curious. It would be interesting to calculate how cost effective that support company would be
Probably to prevent paratrooper space marines
I think this is literally the un-nerfed armored recon, so literally brings back the old space marines.
However you do need like 300 air XP to unlock this support company which means I don't think it's nearly as broken. Picking air force advisor as first pick barely gets you there in late 1939.
@@guncolony and 300 air xp for USA is near impossible prior to WW2
Very easy for Germany; send air volunteers to Spain and China.
Now THIS is how you add in a cool system. Anyway, I'm off to play Poland and make a 50-width pure infantry division with engineers and rangers to hold off the German and Soviet hordes.
how do i win as poland i never can
@@pixxalz9864one way some people try to cheese this is by releasing belarus which considerably reduces the front with ussr
@@pixxalz9864 Well if I'm gonna defend from the Soviets and Germans I'll go down the Sanation path for manpower and make some infantry with engineers and AA. You could also go down the Habsburg monarchist path and go to war early over the Sudetenland and try to cap Germany even before the Soviets declare
@@pixxalz9864it's very easy, just join the comintern, build forts on the German borders, make a lot of divisions
The entrenchment depending on how many battallions you have in a division is really good, this is gonna make the Soviets and anyone doing mass assault even more powerful when you combine it with their combat width bonuses
Soviets might actually be able to hold in MP.
Hopefully lmao. The state of MP right now is that allies have to dday before barb just to try to give soviets more time.
Hopefully Hospital companies get changed on garrisons when they do this. right now Hospitals don't do anything to reduce casualties there, and since it adds equipment and manpower without affecting suppression, Hospitals actually INCREASE casualties on a garrison.
Why would you use field hospitals for garrisons? Garrisons represent the occupation forces who will have access to normal hospitals in the territories they're holding, trying to treat them in tents instead SHOULD cause more casualties
@@killerlork stop making so much sense
@@rustyshackleford1465 Never
I was thinking this earlier today as I bled out thousands of manpower to partisans
I think the amount of manpower and equipment used by support companies should also be proportional to the amount of companies/battalions in your template, to make adding support companies to smaller divisions more worthwhile. You want a nice little port guard with an engi company? Sure, it'll only cost you 30 mp and like 1 infantery equipment and 3 support equipment instead of the usual 300/10/30. BUT you won't get a huge buff from it.
Likewise, an engi company in a 40 width division will cost way more, but will also give you a larger buff.
No. Comparing 8:05 and 8:10, it's 30 support equipment both times. But I think it should be implemented like that. For the company to have scaling benefits for a larger division, it needs to cost more equipment. 30 shovels can't dig the same number of fortifications per troop if you keep adding more infantrymen.
That would be with the old system when you could simply add as many regiments as you'd like.
Now you have to earn that so that the structure of a division can escale up and its elements coordinate better. Efficiencies are a different multiplier than the number of shovels.
Pioneers are your bridging/assault support company. The Germans tended to have pioneer battalions in their armoured divisions.
And then how are the engineers different from the pioneers? :)
(I'm suchhh a civilian, lol)
@@MrNicoJac the engineers are cheaper and are more focused on giving entrenchment, while the pioneers are basically meant for your strong divisions (tanks, special forces etc) its already like that in some popular mods.
@@AzaqaI believe pioneers are also the people, historically, in possession of flamethrowers.
@@MrNicoJacin company of heroes they are engineers basically
@@lukeb1663 makes sense
stacking entrenchment has already been pretty good, I'm really scared of it going just insane. Imagine combining all of this with a defensive field marshal, the static warfare spirit and a guerilla tactics general. The amount of entrenchment will go off the charts. However... maybe this will finally kinda force the single player meta to be more historical? It's kinda stupid that right now you can just steamroll with artillery as if world war 1 trench warfare never happened
how do you even manage to do that in single player?
Manage to steamroll with artillery? Very easily, just doesn’t work on Germany
Super Heavy tanks have never been cost effective, even in RL. It’s why we have MBTs now.
Bruh armored recon paired with USA's tank destroyer designer of +25% hard attack lol
That's a nice heavy tank division you got there. Be a shame if something happened to it.
Seems ok, but I would love to just put a heavy pioneer or something like that in a division, just to have it hold the line but be unable to attack anything.
id like to see a stability debuff based on the amount of units with medic support companies. more units with medics means better stability and/or war support. would make medics useful even if it reduces combat effectiveness.
I usually only use armored cars for recon companies because they've got the highest base recon value. The armored car recon company gives you 2 recon right off the bat, and all of the other recon companies only give 1 or 1.5 recon value. I put cav recon in for mountaineers, cavalry divisions, and garrison/port guard divisions.
Feedback, stares at tab labelled "Elevate the Mountaineers". Also Feedback, I think this is soft Mountaineers, am I missing something?
Im a little disappointed that PDX has made all these changes and additions without increasing the amount of possible engineer companies you can attach or increasing the available army xp necessary to do special forces, the doctrine, tank designs, equipment improvements, template designing, etc.
There's no army xp to spare for any of the cool SF stuff
I believe if I understood it right, Marines used NXP and Paras use Air XP rather than regular xp-
Just train your army
Military Police should give like +10 or +20 ORG, they can double as commisars **BACK TO THE FRONT**
Paradrop tanks/vehicles would be so cool. It isn't far fetched to believe that one can strip off some armor of existing equipment to make them paratrooper usable. Like the M22 Locust, or even something like the BMD series (an less advanced version of them perhaps)
Thanks for all the vids mate- you've got me back into this game after a few years off; wicked helpful!
Double engineers in a 40+ width division entrenched in a fort behind a river or in a mountain. Good luck breaking that line 😂
Edit: forgot to add Static Warfare and Grand Battleplan 😅
Easy, surround it and move on. Been working remarkably well for the Ukrainians, you'll be forced to either retreat or die.
Stalin line will either be unbreakable or shatter instantly on the german assault equipped with pioneers, and there's no in-between.
Pioneers don't give much of an entrenchment bonus and are incompatible with normal Engineers. They're a lot more specialised and niche. 😉
superheavy tanks as support brigade are cost effective on large divisions (40 with) if you max armor (bout 100 armor on infantry division)
watching the guessing of what each new thing is when the description at the top explains it is funny
If you throw an anti-aircraft gun in every infantry battalion, you can essentially hold air superiority with very few air divisions, actually on interception or air superiority
I hope the Pioneer company gets national flavor. The US has them, a naval unit. We call them "Construction Battalion," or Sea Bees.
Lot more than just the Seabees US has a whole number of different Pioneer and Engineering outfits.
Nah, normal Engineer companies are if at all closer to construction units like the Seabees, Pioneers are more akin to UDT and specialised amphib assault engineers.
Seems like a good update from what I can see .
Might seem small but I’m really exited to just simply get more historical tanks, planes etc from the new update
imo, they should rework support companies into two tiers
-combat support companies
-general support companies
the combat support companies would be your recce, enginerds, artillery, etc...., these don't change and stay the same, with the same bonuses and maluses they always had
now the general support companies, that would be the logi cny, the field hospitals, maintenance, radio...., for these, i would take a note from the naval research tree, where you have general modififers bonuses (damage control, colored shells,....) that you can research to improve your navy in small aspects, well here these companies would do the same, but for the army
they give the same bonuses, but in contrast they don't take a support slot
to counterbalance that, you could have that unlocking the company would add the same manpower and equipment requirement they would have to the line units, but divided by the total number o battalion slots
so for example unlocking the radio support would give your line battalions the +20% initiative, but each battalion would then need an additional 10 manpower, 1 support equipment and 1 truck to simulate the battalion radio section
my reasoning for that is that first, some of these companies are really underutilised, as they take up valuable company slots for bonuses that aren't all so when compared to other companies that would fit the same slot; secondly, in our real life, all units had some form of these general support services once the technology was available to the parent country
3:24 “can be adapted for airborne drop via heavy glider”
Wonder what we will see out of gliders?
Will there be light/medium/heavy variants?
Infantry and arty divisions with engineers, rangers/cavalry recon are gonna go insane
Double engineers meat shield wall lets goo. then get more entrenchment speed and stuff like that, then ofc going with Great battle plan doctrine.
yeah i wanna see if those light tank support will do anything behind enemy lines since tank division/regiment always get multiple debuff everytime when they had no supply around and you also cannot air drop fuel somehow....
logistic support 's time to shine i guess
Also tons of extra fuel tanks!
Nice, new models for mountaineers
3:41 ish, I'd assume the pioneers would simply be to represent pioneer groups, for example those from ww2 german infantry division. Essentially separating the engineers (which I'd argue should be moreso like the repair company, though the two are not the same yet side by side) and these pioneers. I believe it was with the latter that things like mobile bridges were with, if not then the former.
The representation here by paradox is a complete disgusting disgrace.
Combat Engineers and Pioneers are one and the same, this applies Sappers as well.
Paradox is too stupid to understand different countries use different terms
WW2 German Pioneers were almost entirely combat troops
There were two types of Pioneers
Combat Pioneers and Construction Pioneers, both are called pioneers but are distinctive by denoting if they are combat or construction troop.
All Pioneers (Except the Infantry Pioneers) were organized into the Pionier-Bataillon
A majority are combat pioneers for the front line as one of the primary tasks are to build up fortification, clear mines, and destroy bunker, destroy enemy tanks if Anti-Tank troop are unavailable, and many more task, most of which is likely to engage in combat.
A smaller amount are solely construction troop that are not meant for combat, they have the primary purpose of building stuff like bridges, however unlike the combat troop, they are mainly to build stuff while NOT in combat. Since they are construction troop, they don't really do the mine clear or assault demolitions either.
Paradox is too stupid and incompetent to make a proper engineer/pioneer/sapper unit
Also the Infantry pioneers as mention before are just combat engineers organized in infantry regiment and not the pioneer battalion, there was only like a squad in an infantry regiment
Historically, the Red Army was pretty indecisive on whether to spread out tanks and give every division some small number of tanks (closer to WW1 tactics), or to use them all at once and do a mass attack with them (deep operations). They found out that the former didn't really work in the winter war, so they decided to use tanks to punch holes in the front line and break through with fast divisons, harassing the enemy's rear supply and communication, keeping the enemy from preparing proper defenses against the then all out push of the entire Red Army.
So historically, having armored cars in your infantry is kinda historic, and since Russia can easily sacrifice manpower and has reduced combat width, you could make large infantry divisions with armored cars (they're not that expensive) and support artillery only and have this wall of high org/okay-ish soft attack divisions slowly push and pin the entire enemy, keeping them engaged with their high org while your tank divisions absolutely cursh them, or if you want to do a historic larp thing, have your motorized mots and mechs completely disrupt their supply lines.
2:29 i saw you got confused abaut this and i think why you can research all tree in one cuz its for 3 diffrent special force 1.mountain 2.marines 3. paratrooper its not like you research a navy or air or land doctorine its 3 in one maybe in futer they will add more special research tree so they will split off for now and this focus its not nesesary
Imagine playing the Soviet Union and sitting on a lv. 10 forts line behind a river and stack 50 width infantry-only with double engineers divisions and grand battleplan doctrine.
Shit not even with nukes you're going to break that line
Na, logistics bombing will de-org the line. These changes will probably make soviets last until 43 without allied intervention, but I don't think this fundamentally changes that much except making mech soviets more playable.
This is all nice, but they also each costs 100 xp, which means then will be rivalling with the main doctorines. So this is more of a late game stuff.
Bro this game is like 10 years old and they're still adding and changing things. Just wild
Pioneers add Battalion Modifiers to Marines +5% Attack only
5:50 I wish we'll get mechanized engineer as well, that would be negating enemy entrenchment bonus.
mines, barbed wire and trenches? Send the 25T armored bulldozer and demining half trucks.
I would also slap field officer as support (maybe using armored cars/trucks as mobile radio/planning war room), and some good way to use armored cars, maybe something like motorized battalion that uses cars? IMHO cars should use a third of fuel for example compared to mechanized. Be balanced as something you go for when you are starved for gas, and you still need some armor. They should be earlier in tree, with something like converted civilian "armored" car as well.
something like progression in the requirements would be awesome. I assume engineers for example start with shovels and basic backpacks. When you upgrade them to tier II engineers, they start using trucks (like 5 per support company?) and double the support equipment (like chemical protection suits, or barbed wire cutters stuff like that). On tier 3 they need 10 trucks 5 mechanized and 5 armored cars, and fewer people for example. Exchange bigger needs for greater strength, or even better tie it to doctrines as well. Like mass assault engineer unit having twice the manpower used, while mobile warfare giving them mechanized wheels.
I wish doctrines affect support companies even more.
like I assume superior firepower doctrine make support arty much slower, as they are heavy and loaded with ammo (unless combined with logistic company).
I assume mass assault should nerf any non-attack support companies for example, while buffing soft attack on all of the attack ones.
Itll take balancing but this is cool. Finally choices when choosing support companies
I dont see the double entrenchment as too op. I think itll be good as defending doesnt have alot of options, itll require any aggressors to build actual tanks and or pushing arty divs plus air
I wonder if amphibious tanks and amtracks benefit from the marine doctrines as well?
I still don't see my 3x3 infantry with 1 arty main divisions at 21 width and my 42 width tank divisions changing, other than me stacking support companies and now the tank divisons break through even easier?
Exciting!
也就是所謂的支援部隊,變得對特定部隊更有效了,還算不錯吧
Would motorized artillery be considered line artillery? Curious as to the Calvary recon change

Breaking news: Paradox adds a fraction of the feautures present in mods.
None of these features are in mods. And don't bother pointing me at some halfassed hackjob that a modder produced that's somewhat similar if you squint hard enough.
@@magni5648 Yes they are. There's plenty of mods that add new units or support companies. There even are mods that add new doctrines to the game, but I admit not with the focus on special forces.
@@makeromaniagreatagain9697I just told you to not bother pointing me at halfassed facsimiles that require you to be half-blind or worse to see any real resemblance. Are you outright illiterate or just too lazy to read and comprehend?
There's a stark difference between professional work and what modders hack together, and you have to be damn well wilfully blind to not see it.
I wonder if rangers will limit division speed to 4 km/h like super heavy companies would limit speed in the beta patch, so they would only be usable with infantry and heavy tanks.
They're a recon company, so most likely yes, they'll be slowing down any non-infantry division.
Edit: They are the same speed as cavalry recon, turns out.
I think that they nerfed this before release and you have to chose to have pioneers or the engineers. Not both in the same…
Double engineers and support light tanks = Impirial Fists
Damn my first time at ground zero
Nc this will help my defensive gaming
My only wish, for the marine pioneers on the US, call em a Seabee support company 🙏
makes sense on the eng companies bc its one company per battalion so it makes sense
No...
A WW2 army usually follows a Triangular army structure, though sometimes a square, this basically means 3 groups, example, 3 squads infantry squads in a platoon, 3 platoons in a company, 3 companies in a battalion, etc.
That said, ALL WW2 armies with organic engineers (Organic referring to the engineers be a permanent part of the division) have a battalion of engineers, this battalion is then distributed amongst the Division, and assuming it is a triangular Division, there are 3 Infantry Regiments.
Thus in practice, each Regiment would be supported by one company of engineers and shifted however it is needed.
Every Infantry Battalion would be supported by a platoon of engineers
It doesn't make sense
An engineer support company never made sense because that such a small unit when the standard is a battalion, this change doesn't make sense either
@@jerryudonneedtoknow3903 think about it the engineer company is apart of the battalions of the division. They dont have Brigade assets in the game becuase everything is set up for divisions to show more CP you have to spread everything around It makes sense that they have it in every battalion because one company for one division is not real sae with recon
@@matthewramos7605 and one company per battalion is just as unrealistic as i company per division. If the organization had 9 infantry battalions, and each battalion had a company, the collective total for all engineer companies could effectively make 2 or 3 battalions worth of engineers, far more that division should have. No division is ever like this.
As said before engineers are organized into battalions, dispersed in companies to support brigades/regiments which the game DOES have. Each column you can place battalion in is a regiment/brigade, there are 5 slots available, hoi4 even models the supply lines for it in which battalion at the top get equipment before ones at bottom
Its always why your first unit determines which type of units you can use. If you put a tank battalion as the first unit, you can only use tanks afterwards as it is a armored regiment/brigade
@jerryudonneedtoknow3903 I'm talking about real life to game its not unrealistic we have 1 inf company 2 tank companies in real life 1 support and 1 for recon and headquarters they don't have a engineer company because they use a batallion for a brigade because they are more specialized and task specific. Some have a mix of the same but switch out inf for engineers and that's what we the US army have
@@matthewramos7605
Firstly you comparing to modern standards with is very off putting, secondly, the modern standard has heavy mechanization and motorization integrated in for the troops, thirdly, modern times have a much larger capability for logistics.
This is HOI4, WW2, Real life to game under ww2 standards.
A battalion has many things, the infantry companies, its heavy weapons companies,
In WW2 there are no organic engineer companies, at most would be a squad while most other engineers would be organic to the battalion.
Germany for example had two engineers types in their Infantry Division.
The Engineers organic to the Pioneer-Battalion (Who ware the black color shoulder tab specific to pioneers), and the Infantry engineers organic to the infantry Regiment (Who wore white colored shoulder tabs, the same as a basic infantry).
There is a reason a squad is in a organized into a regiment
Modern combat is far different, the scale in which it occurs is smaller. In WW2 a strong emphasis was placed on Regiments as they were the key unit, support elements were in battalion scale and could be divided if necessary, because of a lack of motorization and mechanization in every regard, marching was common, and their support needed to keep at pace. The regiment consisted of units that could keep up with each other to allow coordination with they supporting heavy weapons.
Modern day is heavily mechanized and motorized, infantry can keep up with tanks, if each squad has their own vehicles, it pretty easy,
If smaller units are slower, they could be easily wiped out, so bigger units are needed just because they are slower, there becomes more fire power available. With mass motorization and mechanization, it becomes pretty easy and quick for a small units to consolidate into a larger unit, so there is less of a worry there with smaller sizes
IN addition, engineers were almost always motorized (organic trucks) for most WW2 armies, even when the Germans who were short on trucks, an infantry division marching on foot, the engineers would be given trucks to carry supplies and the engineers. The amount of trucks used if each battalion had a company of engineers would be absurd.
Assuming its a triangular organization, 3 squads and a heavy weapons group in a platoon, 3 platoons and heavy weapons group in company. That can be around 28 trucks in a Company, and not including extra equipment and supply trucks as well as the baggage units. Apply that for every infantry battalion and that a lot of trucks, especially for ww2 standards.
If there are 6 battalions of infantry in an entire division, that would be over 150+ trucks organically part of the engineers.
Even the Americans in WW2 wouldn't be able to support this. While the US army was heavily motorized, all the truck the infantry used were detachments for the Quatermaster that had to effectively be shared around by the Division's infantry, they had far more than all nations and could get infantry moving quickly, but it was not like every squad had its own personal truck, that would be too many trucks.
To add 150-300 trucks in a division solely for engineers companies for each (infantry) battalion (If you include recon, artillery, etc, thats way more). That would be absurd, only logical if applied to an actual fully motorized division.
The engineers are split from battalion to company to support a regiment because the regiment is the main unit
Parachute forces are so strong yet. You can fool the ai. To make them even stronger - so much about "balance" :)
The first patch will be either a nerf to pioneers/engineers or will block us from having both on the same division
Release is gonna be so fun/broken, then patch adjusted hard for the first 5 emergency patches
i will spam cavalry like its 1066
Glad you realized how many times you said meta in the end there. That was going to be my original comment... Meta.
Cant i already paradrop tanks by using armored recon though?
And not being able to use SH tanks as non-support i dislike. Let me make expensive tank divisions.
Too bad we didn't really get a decent support company from the airborne branch compared to rangers and pioneers which are absurdly strong.
In retrospect, after playing around a bunch post AAT release, I think the airborne path needs to be redone into two left/right paths that focus more on buffing either land or air operations for airborne divisions. Maybe the support company for the airborne path could give us a company of commandos that function similar to radio companies but give better coordination, initiative, and breakthrough modifiers for elite shock infantry divisions that punch holes into enemy lines. The issue with paratrooper divisions is that they perform a very high-risk niche function that does not make investing into the airborne tree is not worth it as losing entire airborne divisions worth of manpower and equipment is too prohibitively wasteful. Paratroopers should also have cool and unique combat abilities and modifiers like the ability to steal enemy supplies, to work with resistance fighters, to infiltrate/exfiltrate from enemy lines, to extend supply ranges that goes through enemy units and lines, the ability to disband and embed into partisans if at risk of being overrun, to camouflage and go into hiding, temporary stat buffs for a few days/weeks after being dropped, etc. It is not really worth investing heavily into gimmicky paratroopers to do anything else than cheese victory points against AI if all the airborne divisions are just going to melt behind enemy lines and piss away manpower anyway.
Also wish Paradox would've added infantry flamethrower support companies that gave solid bonuses for jungle, fort, and urban terrains. I feel like that's a super obvious no-brainer.
I wish they didn't DLC lock basic stuff like Armored Cars, I don't want to use the DLC spy system.
see I am new to HOI in the last year...I have been trying to learn the game for a while and every time I get a handle on most of the game they release a new one, or DLC, or expansion, and I get lost in the soup again...Problem with being old in a young person's world. this only pertains to the new Expansion correct? "Arms Against Tyranny"? Forgive my ignorance...I can't wait for the new Civ game to drop and go back to what I know!
I can image how the hoi4 broken when this DLC released
Even though I'm terrible at this game and often play less than 2 hours (shit OC dosent help either lol) and with cheats; I do enjoy HOI4 and its content creators, and this new DLC seems promising.
Anyways, thanks for the video!
I hope they buff the recon companies further and also rebalance the maintenance and signal companies so that they become useful.
While they're at it, I hope they buff cavalry.
If you're giving the same new equipment and doctrines to everybody, why would they get less benefit from it than everybody else?
Pausing at 3:46 I am reading that the support pioneers companies give "minus 25% Marine special forces cap Contribution". Does this mean you'll always want to equip these companies to make MORE marine divisions?
that would be a bit broken i guess
thats a passive bonus from the doctrine alone it will be applied regardless of having pioneers in your division
hey, quick question do I need the DLC for these changes?
Some… definitely. Basic support companies will get these updates, but those new support companies… You most likely need DLC. Just like you get updates free to basic focus trees, but alternate history is allways DLC stuff.
Yay! Finally I'll be able to make 50 width armored airdroppable super ski dudes as a releasable African minor nation to successfully naval invade an Asian jungle island with level 10 naval fort stacked with masses of lategame Allied double-engineer cannon fodder.😊

Double the shovels - double the trench depth. Modern war shows that this is actually worth it
Spreadsheet meta is only fun for the first 10 games or so. Then it gets boring. I need more excitement!
So PDX really going to add MORE support companies and keep slots railroaded to 5 cap, with no ability to increase with army xp!!!?!?!?
We ought to have better standards for the dlc in our games so that each is more adequately fleshed out, thus preventing the need for too many 'patch work' dlcs.

I see if you have both shovels and the new pioneers it cost 70 support equipment which is more than double than the usual shovels. Its going to be hard to equip all units with that enless your a major. You will have to double the amount if mils you normally use for support which can be very pricey. Also the other new support companies will be using support equipment as well. We will need to see the game to determine if its broken. Its kind of negative to be saying its broken before you get to try it. Good video though.
