I am literally on the road today pulling my travel trailer. That heater hose failed on me and left us stranded on the freeway. AAA towed my truck and trailer to Flagstaff, AZ ( 30 miles ), and got me to a NAPA store. I repaired mine the same exact way. It was good to know I did it the way others suggested (although after the fact). Thank you for the video.

A blessing indeed. We found ourselves on a road trip 14 hours away from home with the exact same 2010 expedition ailure you shared in this video. found the you tube video. found the o rileys in the evening. parts were the same. cost was the same. completed the repair next morning with cool engine before family finished breakfast, took 20 minutes. thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience.

thank you my friend. I live in Vegas, and my wife and children live in North Carolina. I was not able to fix this problem. But because of your amazing video, my absolutely non mechanical wife did the job by herself and saved us a ton of money. If you're ever in Vegas. I'll buy you a steak dinner. Adam

Hi Burl, this is Adam's wife in NC, and I am so thankful for your video! I found the parts at Auto Zone, and because my prior mechanic knowledge consisted of where to put the key to turn it on, it took me about 30 minutes... but I did it, thanks to YOU and my amazing husband for finding your video! If you're ever in NC I'll take you out for BBQ! May God bless you and your family Ü

Just fixed this today, 7 years after you posted this. I tried to just put a new clamp on because I could see where the leak was, but it was obvious after that did nothing that the plastic was basically cracked inside. Found a brass T at Lowes like some other people here and fixed it right up. Great tip on keeping the pieces from falling back into the hose. Thanks for saving me about $300 in a now 2022 upgraded dealer estimate! God bless you as well!

Mine is leaking. I took it to a mechanic and he quoted me a price of $240 for the hose. Labor and tax came to $485...yes...$485. This is why I hate taking my cars to a mechanic. Then the more I looked at it I was thinking exactly what this video demonstrates. Less than $15!!Thanks to the uploader!

Just want to say thank you for posting this video! This same piece was leaking on my 08 Mercury Mountaineer and Ford was looking to charge me $331 for the whole hose assembly (it has a few more pieces than the 3 hoses)... a look at Autozone and the 3 hose assembly was $70. New hose clamps and the 3/4" T was all I needed. Thanks again!

Sorry to bother but your comment is one of the most recent i just wanned to know if u drainned your coolant to connect the t?

    • @mar1video
      @mar1video 6 років тому

Alfredo Guaman - no you don't need to drain your coolant. You can use a wine cork to stop the leaking coolant coming from the engine side. The other hose shouldn't leak that much. Put some towels or paper towels on the coils to absorb the leaking coolant and you will be fine.
I did this in the parking lot of some auto part store (Advanced Auto Parts ), and it took me about 20 minutes.
      Good luck. !

Thanks Burl! I did this hack yesterday on a 2003 Ranger with the 3.0L Flex Fuel engine. I followed your instruction video exactly and it worked great!. The Ranger hoses were different from the Expedition's; they were 3/4" X 3/4" X 3/8". I found a "T" that fit at O'Reilly Auto Parts. It is a Dorman Heater Hose Tee, #47112. I saved a lot of money! Thanks soooo much for posting this!!! I did it just like you did and it worked great! Love the tip about bending the pipes over during the removal of the broken bits inside in order to keep pieces from clogging. It all worked so good that I did the one just below it as well. Thank God I decided to do that one because the second I touched the second one ....it cracked too! BTW, the large hose clamps were 1 1/4" and the small clamp was 5/8". Thx again!!!

Great instruction, thanks for posting. My 07 Jeep Commander has all the same parts and the tee broke same as yours. Only difference is my tee is located right next to the firewall, so it takes a little longer than 4 minutes. By the way, 3 different mechanics couldn't find the leak. I always use distilled water when adding water to the radiator and at the proper ratio with the anti freeze, The city water in our town has a lot of minerals that corrode plumbing fixtures and I also suspect it corrodes the plastic radiator and heater fittings and pipe connections also and causes them to get brittle and crack.

Thanks for the tip! I was expecting the worst when I saw coolant all over the plugs until I saw the tee leak at higher engine RPM, then I still cringed at the goofy looking fittings. Glad they can be broken easy and its just normal heater hose underneath.

Ford was still using the same terrible plastic tee in 2015. Thanks for the video. The price of that hose on an F-150 is $130.00 and I only spent $9.00

Excellent Post! Followed your instructions and the repair went flawlessly. Huge $ and time saver. By the way, if you have a post in reference to replacing the running board motors (little suckers are about $1100 each and the stealership charges almost the same in labor) by all means share!!
    Thanks again, extremely helpful!

Bud, I know man those things are ridiculous!
even my Local ford parts guy, Ronnie, Who has been at our local ford parts place for 25 years could not believe the price...when he looked those motors up for me ...he paused then rolled back in his chair ...with his mouth wide open looking dumbfounded ..said "those stinkin motors are 1235.00$ a piece!"
I have one off at the moment trying to rebuild it...it has a small circuit board inside that tells it when its in a bind..my gut tells me, that is the weak point in these things.
I will definately post a video if I find a cheap solution.
let me know if you do as well! thank you and God Bless.

Your 6-year old video continues to help! I just replaced the tee on my 2008 Explorer 4.0. I used a brass tee from Home Depot, 3 hose clamps and a gallon of antifreeze. It went just as easy as it appeared on your video and took longer to get the parts than to do the job. The only change was that I needed a 1" x 1" x 1" tee, not 3/4. Thank you!
