Bravo!!!, sure Chris Merritt is a wonderful lyric-tenor, and it is strange that we all have not too much information of him, as well as to have the joy of hearing him on stage (he is a master class on stage, my God!!!). Bravo!!!, gracias por compartir fabiantenor!!!
Merritt was one of the most famous tenors in Italy, along with Blake, for their pioneering work with Rossini and other great composers. Nobody say that he is unknown when he regularly sang the opening nights of La Scala...times change and thank goodness, other fine tenors of today receive the exposition that tenors in the '80s didn't get... lucky guys today, because it was people like Merritt who did all the spade work for today's names to be up there in that repertoire.
Wow, Chris is in excellent voice and you're right-that program is insane! What a rare treat that audience witnessed and will never see again. Thanks a lot for the post.
I never heard of him before. OMGoodness He deserved every bit of that long ovation. You won't hear a better rendition that aria. Wonder what became of him. I'll be googl-ing him right now, Bravo!!!!
God!!!, just saw and read the repertorie of this recital, he sanged 9 pieces ,each capable of "waisting" the best tenors voice!!!. he was so solid, and so skilled he does this recital at "Pav's home town" Modena,...he sure is a solid tenor (agree 100%, of of responsables with Rockwell Blake of the "reborn" of N. America lyrical "belcanto" singers) BRAVO!!!!
MERRIT IS NOT PUBLIC: Why I ask me. He has a very goog voice. Bruce Ford the same. All are talking from Pavarotti and Domingo. We have many good tenors in the world. But there are unknown. Really Sorry!!!!
Outstanding!!!! And Puccini isn't even Merritt's speciality!!!!!! This recital is right out of opera heaven!!!! I want it on disc!!!
Fantastico Chris!!! Quanto ci manchi all'Opera di Roma... Che MUSICISTA!!!
Un saluto, Alessandro.

Ojalá Chris hubiera abarcado el repertorio spinto, seguiríamos disfrutando del mejor tenor de toda la historia de la lírica.
