@@deviousdelibird I think it was really happening, since she still has the tiara in the scene where they are back at Forge’s home. I don’t know how it works but I remember she spontaneously put on her uniform in “Night Of The Sentinels - Part 1”. Personally, I wish she would have kept her 90s uniform or else the black 80s uniform with the lightning bolt. I never liked her 70s bathing suit uniform that she seems to get now.

You're about the quality drop on those episodes. Having different writers is telling 😅
As for Storm, I like to think Forges machine DID work and afterwards it was Storm not believing in herself.

I had the impression that the machine Forge created did indeed undo the X-Cutioner's weapon effects but she still couldn't access her powers because of what she said to Madalyne that she sometimes wished she were human. This episode showed her getting over these psychic blocks and embrace herself as a mutant.

I read that the "lie" she was referring to was that she wasn't a goddess but a mere mutant that could have her power taken. And it was the belief in this lie that led to her sequestering her powers.

If all the best episodes were written by the original showrunner, it seems like they fired the wrong person. "Serviceable" is just a nicer way of saying "mid," and resorting to deus ex machina to restore Storm's powers doesn't bode well for the quality of future episodes, especially when most of the time she's without them isn't even shown. It's like having a character lose an arm in a fight, only to show up the very next scene with a cool robot arm that's better in every way. There are a lot of ways to mess up a good story, but few snowball as badly as pacing issues-and in a setting where people can just be born with godlike power, up to and including *rewriting reality at-will,* it shouldn't be too hard to come up with something better than self-actualization as a means of getting her powers back.

Different writers makes sense. I didn’t even think to look into that. Storm is my favorite on the team, but both episode 4 and 6 definitely felt out of place and rushed; in contrast to the temporary feeling of completion after watching the other episodes. They were like 33 minute movies, but 4 and 6 are clustered.
Hopefully, 6 is the last episode she wrote.

As I understand it, Forge DID restore Storm's powers. They just didn't work because Storm herself had it blocked. So, those powers returned when she overcame that.
I do agree though, that if Storm would lead X-men without powers and would only restore them later, it would be a cooler story.

These episodes would have been better if episodes 4 and 6 were aired before 5. That way you have all of Storm's arc over two continuous episodes and end with Professor X going back to Earth. Thus in episode 5 you're waiting for Professor X or Storm to save the day, then learn they won't.

I read Storm's powers coming back differently.
I read it as Forge's machine worked, but Storm's doubts about being a mutant, as mentioned in previous episodes, was what was keeping her powerless. By facing the Adversary=her fears and doubts, head on, she could use her powers again. She even acknowledges it in her dialog healing Forge.
As for Deathbird, that's a good point. I just rolled with the punches, asking no questions.

I also have to say. I'm surprised they removed the potential for a powerful Storm story that ticks all sorts of checkboxes. Storm - a black handicapped (for a mutant because she's depowered) woman - beat Scott - who was able to use his powers - for leadership of the X-Men. It showcased Storm's cunning and cleverness since she used tactics and the environment to beat an opponent who could zap her as soon as he saw her. Not only was it a great fight and character work, it plays to 'modern audiences' as well. They lost an opportunity to have their cake and eat it.

Honestly, it seems like the writer who did this episode and the others has a Wikipedia idea about the X-Men TV series. I don't understand if you want to do an episode based on these characters why can't you just watch the original episodes it's based on if you don't want to watch the whole series? By doing so you get a better general idea and then you can make your story much more cohesive as well as I'm sorry to say good. So far it seems like there are Pacific episodes I should watch guarantee from your suggestion, which I agree, but it seems like the last four episodes of the show I have no reason to watch it.

I have JSG to thank for getting me into the X-Men. I’m probably never going to read the comics, as I’m already tearing my hair out over my Stockholm syndrome to DC, but I absolutely love the cartoon. Watched 97 first (I know, out of order, but I told myself I was just watching for the animation and wasn’t going to get attached and now look where I am), and I’m currently binging the original series.
With that all of the way, as someone who had no preexisting knowledge of the X-Men other than a few JSG videos, I can’t really judge how 97 handles arcs. However, I will say that the pacing feels off. Some episodes feel like they should be stretched out a little more, especially the Jean clone arc and the Storm and Forge arc. Also, this might be my bias talking, but I wish we got more time with Gambit before episode 5 (which is an amazing episode. It’s what really sold me to become an X-Men cartoon fan). Other than that, I’m having a lot of fun despite the newly formed Gambit-shaped hole in my heart.

Sadly, it feels like Storm restoring her own power was almost inevitable, due to too many people in Hollywood not really getting complex or subtle ideas, or not wanting audiences to think. While I certainly agree that Storm is not reduced by her power being restored by someone else, that's not a thought that would be popular in Hollywoodland nowadays. Likewise, Storm leading the X-Men without her powers was not something I feel like the executives would want to sign off on.

Many people are going to blame the time constraints (number of episodes per season and how long they last) for this but those factors should have been taken into account by the team in charge on writing the episodes.
You need time to make a good story and get people attached to the characters : Speeding things up to cram as many storylines as possible in one season doesn't cut it.
I'm sure there's a lot of people who'd rather get a nicely paced story and end the season on a cliffhanger than get the breakneck speed pacing X-Men '97 goes for its storylines.
The show even dared throwing filler in there for the Life and Death story by mixing it up with Jubilee's side quest when it needed the full time granted by the episode to be properly told.

I'll agree to disagree that episode 5 was "awesome" (for reasons I stated in your review of that episode) and Episode 6 is where I tapped out; specifically for the ENDING. Professor X not being dead I can handle as he wasn't dead until Scott kills him - and that hasn't happened yet (regardless of whether I think it never should have, as a disservice to both characters frankly) BUT Prof X getting into a "developed" relationship far enough to marry an alien; getting just as screwed by her people as Earth's for being what he is - in a different context, and THEN because Genosha bites it, saying fuck the whole thing because "my babies" are in danger... No. They're most of them GROWN ASSED adults that you left things to in your damned will bud. The alliance with the Shi'ar could have done a LOT more for earth = and they do have a child together, so when the hell is that coming up? Because I doubt they did that OUT of wed-lock, but you know they're probably going to never mention a marriage. Professor X being all "school is in session" with a group of supposedly advanced aliens who subjugate entire species, and specifically gave HIM the tech to create the danger room in the first place, is more than a little arrogant. I get that Llandra was probably humoring him to bring her idiot council down a peg or two, but no one says that some other Shi'ar couldn't have fought back. Him getting screwed on the psychic plane and curling into a ball over it's probably not gonna do him any favors either. (Not saying he was wrong to do so; but it makes him look weak - and he was already in a position of non-dominance with the Shi'ar anyway. Also, Also: When she points out he can play her pet later, and Charles was like that sounds interesting = No! Just no. A) He's never been that type, B) There's no need for that kind of emasculation when you're attempting to assert he's worthy to MARRY an Empress in general. It's fair enough it was in private but I'd call it wildly out of character and a mark of current day social politics rather than true to the lore) * This is a guy with enough mental strength to contact and perhaps CONTROL the entire earth. The. Entire. Earth. He's done it at least once, and maybe more than once, and you assholes ever think he's the type that's going to be submissive??? Come on. [Yes, you can argue he was humoring her, or trying to turn the insult into something more playful to take it's teeth away, but it did not need to be written in the first place. It says more about the writer's view on his character - and lack of knowledge of who he is in the comic world. Not to mention what he can do]
Storm attempting to break the glass I took as the building up of her clostrophobia. She was trying to escape before it escalated; because the spirit knew what buttons to press - and there's a reason she eventually does defeat it based on what it actually is... - so her getting clostrophobic in the coffin was more a worsening of that point. Rather than random (The cabin to most would still be a small "enclosed" space - it would count more than you think) I personally don't like how she just GETS her powers back by beating the demon. Yes, you can say she was the one holding her own powers back by "fear" (and she's NEVER been afraid of her powers; so that's BULLSHIT. If it was something like Jonathan from Generation X - THEN you can do the I fear my powers) She's never really seemed to want to be normal, as her being a mutant WAS her version of "normal." So that doesn't fly either. The fear of them being taken away, was never something she had to deal with before - as before the gun it wasn't as far as she knew possible... so there's a TINY bit of leeway there. Not much, and not a really palable excuse considering how again: DOMINANT Storm's personality is. (Storm is also VERY well aware that she's NOT actually a goddess... so if they were going for that angle as to why she wins against a spiritual demon in an entirely different cultural mythos, no beuno) It's just all of a sudden - I get my powers back because I'm "ready" to have them back. I was the one holding myself back the whole time... because female empowerment. Despite the fact she wanted them back the whole time, and has ALWAYS held her powers back because of the nature of what they are - and what they can do to NATURE itself. She's the only Omega level mutant that's ONLY ever going to be able to use about 5-10% of her actual power, on any planet she wants to survive her mucking around with it. Are we going to see a scene where she thanks him for fixing her; or are we just stuck with her blaming him for coming up with the BASICS of the tech? Which given where they left off made her suddenly giving a shit about his bite wound in my opinion pretty damned quick and jarring as well [I also don't like that she slapped him. If you don't want to be hit - You do not get to hit. Ever. Gender doesn't matter to that assertion] ** Storm got her powers back because it can be assumed her "block" after Forge "restored" her powers, was entirely psychosomatic. It really was just her, holding herself back. Which means he DIDN'T fail to restore her powers - which is why I asked if he'd get a thank you... and I doubt that's even going to occur to her, or the writers.
Deathbird was specifically hilarious to me - when you know that she MARRIES Vulcan; and they had a kid. So her attempt here is very petty/assholish, and specifically about her play for the throne more than any cultural purity/societal belief. *** Deathbird is the ELDEST. By the medieval rite/law of Primogen; it would have passed to the eldest MALE heir, which would have already pissed her off. However with D'ken unseated, if Llandra's ruling, that's not fair in Deathbird's mind. Despite the fact she's a murderess as far as I'm aware (to her it's likely justifiable homicide, and wouldn't count as something that should take away that supposed Birthright)

These shows are far inferior to the original shows. There are too many things to vent in depth.

This mess like watching Dragon Ball Super. It’s decent and likable yet it’s just not hitting the highs of the OG series. Enjoying it for what it is, More X-Men.

so i haven'r red the comics, but i thought the lie storm was refernceing was the lie to jean/maddlyn. storm even used the word day dream in that scean, which the adversary also used the word day dream. i would definitly like to see a more comics accuracte adaptation of this storie. but for what they made it was a good episode. thats basically what i have to say about the series so far. like you can tell stuff is missing from the actuall story line episode but they have made passable versions that do entertain for fans of the 90s series who didn't grow up on the comics. and i would truly love the clothes changeing portion of her power.
As far as the stuff in the shiar empire i wasn't fond of it it didn't make sense. like i had remembered death bird not surviveing the last episode she was in. like honestly that episode should have gone with motendo instead. though honestly while i had wanted xavier back from the fegining, now i kionda think it would have been more entresting to see how the x men deal with everything by them selves. .

She seems like a Disney imposed writer. Her styling is familiar corporate Hardy boys it's for kids so it doesn't matter. Seemed on par with the captain marvel movies. And that movie appears to have been cut up in corporate. It's crappy writing. But we love the characters and they look beautiful.
I was disappointed that we didn't get to see storms strength of spirit and being an effective fighter like Natasha without needing powers. Just like Wonder woman 84 for the MCU.

Deathbird should've planned to snatch the throne from Lilandra and ruin the marriage altogether. But I'll give it a pass. The episode with Storm and Forge felt rushed.

Was waiting expectantly for this review exactly because of how much it felt like episode 4.... you were tame over it... to me just felt as bad as the forth.
If the show keeps this trend then, for me the show really becomes unwatchable....
For the storm part, it also seemed to me very weird how she just recovers her powers by her own, but yeah... girl boss moment it would seem.... The rest with her hair growth and costume change and all that, it looked more like a passage of period of time scene,
a good one visually, but it really felt off in the middle of the plot. The story was about both of them and suddenly its about her and all that time passage while Forge is sick on his death bed to be, waiting for the cure... it makes no sense.
So in the end much like the forth episode you were given two stories but were really given none due to lack of focus....

Seems like the writer had something she wanted to see. Storm flying in the black outfit. That visual was awesome. It was just forced foolish and outside the story arc.
    Storm saying
    Let them thunder.
    I am lightning
    Was spectacular. I love it.
The believing the lie thing is the only bit of use to bridge that scene and I'm sure that was Beau.
Did you see Skyfall? It wasn't a James Bond movie. He was emasculated and useless. Somebody has an idea for a Trainwreck scene. It was just all the way worthless.
By contrast pierce brosnan blows up the bad guy with his own drill torpedo in horribly written scene that's so campy it fits the franchise.
I think this storm arc was a continuation of wonder woman 84. Women are worthless without powers. They have no intrinsic value or agency.
Too bad. Because both Wonder woman and storm have arcs where they prove that they're fierce forces of nature without super powers. It's a sad missed opportunity that's seemingly corporate enforced misogyny.
Wonder woman in the 1970s had women doing things capably. Wonder woman showed respect for and tried to make allies of her female characters that were villains. Women ain't no good no more.

As far as retcon s go there is potential here.
I never liked Bastion. He was a downgrade from Nimrod.
Nimrod was already a perfect hunter Ai that could learn and adapt and always come back to finish the job.
Bastion was just a skin job.
They already had the more advanced Terminator and they made it look human. That's stupid.
On the other hand. Sinister playing god and turning master mold into an artificial human machine hybrid makes a lot of sense...
Are the Phalanx a thing in this universe? I forget.

Wonder woman 84 and Captain marvel. Hack crap writing for female characters. We allow it because they're beautiful and the performance can sell it. It's similar to Star trek kelvin or the Brian singer movie. They confused crappy writing they could get away with because of fans love for the IP and stretching the envelope.

So many tourists and posers have been revealed.
So many of them ironically those who claimed to be the ones who stood as stalwart guardians against those who would infiltrate and corrupt these sacred tales.
Yet now their mask slips. As we are blessed with new stories set in old worlds that hold up to their legacy.
As we now finally see shows worthy of praise and love rise from the mud and shine after so many years.
They would sooner lie, mislead, and misinform.
To spread rumors and guide people astray from media worthy of their time and money.
All for the purpose of lining their pockets and appealing to their enteral narrative of modern media being terrible with no hope of recovery or originality.
Never have we lived in an era where the grifters so eagerly revealed themselves for who they are.

As hype as I am that they're using the classic Storm costume, I have to agree about the wasted potential. Given the direction Cyclops has been going, I had expected to see them adapt Storm vs Cyclops for leadership in this show. But I guess the plot demanded Storm back in full force right away.

Storm's been out of character since the beginning of this show. She was kind and smart and not quick to jump to conclusions or lose her cool, she's displayed none of that in this show. I suspect the wokesters got ahold of her character and thought, "yeah let's have revenge on the wyt pipo for all these years of making her look meek" instead of realizing that her character embodied the majority of the attitudes of the real civilized African nations those who believe in community, helping each other, and that all evil human beings have an innate good side that can be reached under the right circumstances.
