@@Karafka_w_polowie_pełna 1997 wasn't that long ago in the grand scheme of things. Even in 1997 most vehicles relied on circuitry which would be disabled by an EMP of that scale. The internet was already important to much of governance and large scale business across most of the world. Basic utility services were already highly computerised. Such an EMP would have disabled all global logistical networks. That means no reliable access to food, clean water, or essential medicines. With telecommunications down worldwide governments would be crippled resulting in global anarchy. With almost no vehicles working there would be no effective policing across most of any given country and no access to medical eservices for anyone not within walking distance of a medical centre, and even there all advanced medical equipment from heart monitors to MRI machines would be non-functional.
Back in 1997 there were already many thousands of commuter flights everyday in every major country on Earth, all of which were already reliant on computerised flight control and engine management system, and all such craft in the air would have fallen out of the sky to catastrophic effect with no possibility of any effective response from fire or medical services.
The world already had many tens of thousands of computerised nuclear power plants all of which would have lost the ability to control their fuel rods, meaning all the active reactors would have been facing meltdown scenarios of Chernobyl proportions and worse. Thousands of deaths in one day is dramatically lowballing the figure - try many tens of thousands or a couple of hundred thousand at the low end. Tens of millions within a couple of week, hundreds of millions within a few months, and maybe a billion and change all told globally, and you are closer to a realistic figure even back in 1997.

_ P/S: Back story wise Magneto share more with Graydon Creed than Xavier. Both men were discriminated & mistreated by their community as a child because they were different(Graydon is a human born to mutant parents) & thus became radicalised to the cause of exterminating said community

      Well for a few things
one. nazis have been burned out in terms of topic validation
two. well we're kind of running into the fact that jews are a people, not a talking point. I think it's ridiculous to say that Hamas is equal to the Israeli defense force, that doesn't change the fact that we're actually having to look at the fact that as a nation Israel - majority jewish and something that is made for ir part of the jewish Diaspora and identity- isn't just some promise land. it's a political entity same as any other. which means it does s*** that's kind of bad and ee kind of - well - let it
But at the same time a reaction on how to fix it seems to be to let antisemitism flourish. so there isn't an actual discussion being had.
Something also that I think people miss is that Magneto actually tells on himself. In this episode he says that Xavier should have seen Genosha, but if Magneto had his way they would never have gotten to the step of there being a Genosha. he would have started an international nuclear war
Even after the sentinel attack people were willing to rebuild and try again. There was even help coming from humans. on the slow end.
From relief volunteers, people like tilby, as well as Captain America. but that's not good enough for Magneto. it's never good enough for the outraged.

How many people did Magneto kill with his attack =
Anyone hooked up to live saving mechanics.
[Based on JUST the amount of hospitals and sick people on the planet, that's a LOT more than "thousands"]
Anyone in the midst of sugery (or a difficult birth potentially)
Anyone working around heavy machinery that depends on functionality/lifting heavy objects
Anyone working near or on electrical/nuclear power (knock on effect to nearby towns results in MORE deaths)
Anyone in the midst of by air travel (Stranding anyone in midst of by boat, may lead to starvation...)
    * Apparently the entire planet... BUT his powers also affect magnetic fields and he's Omega = He SHOULD be able to set off an EMP WITHOUT fucking over the entire planet based on his own desire to SURVIVE! (Scientifically sending out a wave OVER the planet does not necessarily equate sending one THROUGH the planet - and it'd have to pass thousands of layers of sediment/magma and igneous rock that would probably ground the pulse anyway IE the planet was designed to protect itself...)
    * Muir Island SHOULDN'T have Shi'ar tech if Xavier JUST got back from his time with L'landra... she had to give it to him first; and Xavier would then have had to give it to forge or Moira (more likely Forge) to figure out how it'd work BEFORE Muir Island would have Shi'ar tech that would protect them from EMP affects. That is why you DON'T fuck with the time lines by trying to mangle together too many known plot points that happened at specifically DIFFERENT TIMELINES. (The writers may not have thought of that - or they have forgotten to state somewhere that this IS NOT Charles' first visit to the Shi'ar Empire - which would imply a longer relationship with L'landra to start with - and THEN it might make sense that earth would just have this new tech)
** As to Rogue; it also frees her to pursue a romance with Erik at some soon future point (which the writers seem to want to push for... for, reasons = There is a big chunk of current day adult content into cuckoldry/emasculation of a male in a relationship... that's all I'm gonna say) Maybe next season, or the next two, since Gambit is "dead" now [I still don't think he'll stay that way...] It at least puts it in the context of healing to live with whatever regrets she might ascribe in that relationship, and maybe she can temper Erik to some extent, by giving him something he wants. I don't really know. I just think there was an ulterior motive in pursuing this specific ship over the canonical marriage in the comics.
= Jean is an Omega. Full stop. Cable is a mutant that like Wolverine MIGHT be powerful enough to be classed Omega ALA X-Man; but he's got the techno-virus fucking over his ability to actually BE that powerful. In Logan's case the Adamantium is a tax on his healing factor or he'd probably be pretty damned close to Omega for a regenerator. They are NOT evenly matched. The only reason Jeam might not win, is because her mind is fucked up over what she recalls about Nathan "being her son" in sharing the memories of Madeline.
It ISN'T a good idea; and in the comics I don't think Magneto ever let Woverine stab him... BUT - there would be NO CONSEQUENCE as you're about to ascribe if they'd have made Wolverine pull UP. OR take the claws back out (knives do a LOT more damage coming out than going in) Erik's not capable of self-healing to the extent he'd negate that level of blood loss. So he'd be fucked. End of argument. IF they're smart and know anything about medicine, they'd make Erick manipulate the adadmantium while the claws are in him, to close over the wounds and keep the blood in; while dealing with Logan in the way he canonically did.

I find it hilarious with the idea that the people who have a problem with Magneto, supposedly have no issue with the attack on Genosha. The short answer is they do, but with the responses being severe for both humans and mutants it gets lost in the back ground as just noise to those watching the show. The long answer is simple: If you commit evil to combat a greater evil, evil still wins. Same issues that people have with most modern comics not showing our "Super heroes" being actual heroes is present here. The X-Men already straddled a line between heroes/terrorists/traitors with how far Xaiver and the rest of the X-Men could be willing to go to protect both mutant and human life. The entire message that Xaiver has tried to instill in his students is to do the right thing even when it's hard and the whole world is against you. Rogue attacking government facilities to look for those behind Genosha, while understandable just remind people that one mutant with great abilities can't be stopped by soldiers. Magento disrupting the planet's magnetic field would absolutely destroy and kill millions of people.
And no every animal on this planet doesn't understand the concept to treat others well. Humans, apes, dolphins and some other mammals have this understanding. But the rest of the animal kingdom has no concept of revenge, decency or even pride of oneself. The most basic thing that all animals do have is fight or flight, and the only time that fight typically wins that contest is with the possibility of being eaten. Even prideful animals like gorillas and lions will back down from a fight once they know their rival is going to beat them. To quote a paleontologist: "Pride is not a dinosaur trait, living to fight another day is."

They can glide. The problem is speed. Planes are good at falling in style in an emergency but depending where they land and how fast they fall is more of the problem.
Car crashes wouldn't be that severe because car batteries just die but can still coast do to acceleration and brake fluid would still work. But card just wouldn't be able to start.

I wanted “X-Men ‘97” to go on for several seasons, not be changed in a bait & switch to “X-Men ‘79”. This was not the way I ever wanted to see “Fatal Attractions” be brought onto the screen. I don’t want this show becoming like Claremont’s highly disappointing “X-Men Forever” where it is just one relentlessly shocking tragedy or calamity after another to rapidly destroy the team. “Operation: Zero Tolerance” still had plenty of meat left on the bone to allow the X-Men to stay busy. He’s so caught up in his valid but blinding anger that he’s not just “flipping the table” he’s nuking the whole house the table was in. It was even more terrifying for him in the genosha genocide as he was now in a reverse role from his mother/father(depends on the comic) as his parent said those exact words but didn’t make it , he said those exact words but couldn’t save the child he once was. A lot of people are smugly saying "See this is Woke" but are wrong, if the story was Woke Magento would be the hero, but he isn't, methodology matters. As wrong as Xavier is for not recognizing when talking won't work Magneto is still the villain. An understandable motivation for an evil act doesn't change the fact it's evil. People focused on a political narrative believe morality depends on why you do something instead of what you do. This applies to both extremes. I very much like X-Men 97 because it's a group of heroes so the hard work that is doing the right thing when you have plenty of reasons not too. And writers shouldn't be afraid of having heroes make mistakes or lose thier way. The right thing to do is rarely the easy thing to do. "And writers shouldn't be afraid of having heroes make mistakes or lose thier way."
However there needs to be logical reasons to do this. Rogue siding with Magneto because she doesn't want more deaths doesn't make any sense since Mangneto caused millions of deaths and is about to wipe out everyone on Earth.
"The X-Men are Super Heroes, Super Heroes do their best to protect everyone especially when it's hard because it's right."

So, Gambit is "dead", Wolverine has the admantium sucked right out of him, and no one knows where Archangel is..... All I'm going to say is that Big Blue Guy that Cable's fighting in the intro has got some decisions to make regarding his Horseman of Death.

Seeing how much Angel has failed in Apocalypse's first go with his Horsemen (which already happened in this show), my best guess is that he'll just switch labels around.

@@spinningtornado4543 I'll be honest, my preference for Warren as Death is largely shaped by the fact that he is the original, and the 1980's X-Factor was excellent. The latter comics, both of which happened in the 2000s (I think) didn't have the same shock for me. I could forgive Wolverine becoming Death, but then when they started doing it with Gambit a few years later..... it felt as if the creative bankruptcy that started in the 90s reached fever pitch when ideas are recycled no less than a few years later. I think I tapped out around the mid-2000s.

      @@wanderingthedesert5599 It's more than fair.
I'd have Archangel back as the Horseman of Death, Wolverine as the Horseman of War and Gambit as the Horseman of Pestilence (The Horseman of Famine is still an open position for now).
Each of these represents key life moments for the characters:
Archangel was present on the Day Mutantkind faced near extinction'.
Wolverine is a war veteran for too many of them.
Gambit has officially died yet he raises again as seemingly a corpse amongst the living, something which will spread diseases.

its a shame that folks don't seem to remember that mags was a better person by the end of the OG series. by that point, he had saved charles' life on more than one occasion, tried to just stay away from humans with astroid M only for one of his own to betray and nearly kill him, saved the world from being nuked to death by that same traitor, came out of self exile to save the world from the phalanx invasion, saved his son quicksilver from that same invasion, stopped apocolypse from committing universal genocide, and made it possible for charles to live in the series finale.
mags wasn't a hero full on at that point but he was far less the monster he was in season 1 of the OG show. charles was right in wanting to believe that mags could lead the x-men, and mags was on his way to being the good man charles always knew he could be. the world just didn't let him be good. so this is magneto just having enough of everyone's shit. he was like "i tried. god in heaven, i tried but they wouldn't let me. so you know what? if i'm gonna be a monster, i'll show them just how big of a monster i can be."
    context. its whats for dinner.

The problem is the relapse. He tried, but ultimately his weakness is his hatred. He's always wanted a reason to subjugate or flat out destroy humanity and he jumps at the first opportunity to do so when it presents itself. He doesn't commit himself to doing the hard work. As soon as he encounters a roadblock, he goes straight to genocidal tendencies.

In my opinion (don't ask people to agree with it) I don't think someone working for Disney should be running an only fans (when did a personal life need to become so public). I cannot deny that Beau DeMayo knocked this season out of the park. Wrote a good story that stuck the landing. My least favorite episode was the Mojo-verse one and Life/Death was too abbreviated for it's own good, but this season was pretty dope.

Mistreating the "other" is common to every ideology mankind has ever come up with and is a big part of the problem with group identity, that sooner (usually sooner) or later the group dehumanizes whoever is not in the group. Magneto to me, has always been the reflection of the average human. When things go well, he's pretty reasonable. When things aren't going well in his life, he mass blames anyone he sees as sharing similarities with those who wronged him, ie: everyone who is not a mutant in this case because "mutant" is his in-group.
I'll probably give this series a watch when it shows up on a streaming service I have access to.

A few corrections no not all the nations of the world were in on it. Explicitly Kelly was stymying the full rollout of operation 0 tolerance
Second amongst the people assembled were Kurt Wagner who was most certainly at genosha and was not agreeing with Magneto
3rd We see what the or else for Xavier was if Magneto would not see reason. he would simply take away his autonomy and force him to act in such a way he needed.
    4th
Plenty of people have things to say about the violence in genocia. in particular how it seemed odd that nothing was good enough for the x men. Not carrying water for them in the press. not admitted meager but still existent support
Not even a confession plus I want to kill myself was enough not to be worth their scorn
But in addition to all of that we were trying to do a wait and see how everything was going to shake out
Because we there was a lot of question marks on who was actually dead and what the consequences would be and that was going to be next episode we found out and for the most part we're hoping things would turn out well
this ignores the fact that while yes there were elements in authority that were backing this there were also elements in authority building a case against it.
You know Captain America who was actually ahead of the game. Even was willing to cooperate even though the person in front of him was acting incredibly volatile and inherently hostile in her threatening posture the entire time. by the way that also describes magnito in fact this is the problem
Inherent in everything is a constant sense of aggression
do what I want or else I will hurt you and I have the power to do so and it's only my superiority that makes it so that you get to do what I tell you
Much like yes this can radicalize someone as a result it also means the minority can cause a crackdown as a result
It seems the full story with regards to Bastion was he was going to offer them anti mutant technology that they could control and act as a check against genocia if the mutants decided to both organize and get powerful. you don't get a nation with a noted military hawk/xterrorist and elect him leader and not eventually get people thinking you know what we need to build up some sort of defense initiative for this or a mutual protection pact. Nato =/= oppression
The f*** up is that Bastion jumped the gun to the objection of both the nazi and Doctor doom as well as Valerie Cooper. Who herself who said she did not know about the att6 and considering the fact that she was injured during it while on the site I'm gonna go with the idea that that just wasn't for show. more importantly she was so sorry for what had happened she was willing to release Magneto.
More importantly this is out of proportion. If Magneto always has this power then he could very well use a lesser demonstration of it for the protection and defense of his people and the attack of their enemies. he's destroying everyone and yes this is out of proportion this has absolutely no victory condition for anyone
And finally I have no idea why the hell Magneto is alive and bash kept him in the loop. No really that part makes less than 0 cents

    • @manticoraus
      @manticoraus 4 місяці тому

Finally that is a ridiculous low ball for destroying the ongoing infrastructure of global power even in the late 90s example pacemakers
I'm sorry but that's the problem here Magneto's actions are so utterly out of proportion so devastating that nothing can justify them so any sense of justification in a sense that this is a reasonable course of action or this is Direct consequences of anyone's action even when they were taking action just not immediate action or satisfactory action and we're open to being spoken with or compromise or even letting people act different from them
The x men have been given quite a lot of ropeYes you pointed out how Charles has hanged himself but what about everyone else
Millions is a guarantee of who's died and are going to continue to die without any riots or targeted hate mobs
And this is why people feel as if it's justified because in order to get to this point we have to either lowball softball or a vocal sense of forget what you just know in order to make some sort of parity between Magneto and Xavier particularly as if you go to war as Magneto and those who might fan boy him claim all the problems you have with Xavier do not go away
You still have the paternalism you still have the my way or the highway you still have the idealism or at the very least a person who's got an idea in their head and means of conduct and are absolutely married to it with almost no sense of compromise or too little and are willing to play with other people's lives to do it
Finally there's the sense of validating outrage in particular by making it so that if someone is hurt that no one under similar circumstances can ever gain say them this is particularly bad in the case of the brother and sister pair of rogue and Kurt
      No I don't think that it's terrible
And you did point out stuff that I didn't miss or not appreciate
But the problem is that there's only so much that I can value meat loaf perspective because of what you point out this man is looking for an excuse he's not committed to peace he is eager to externalize his own agony all he needs is an excuse
And it's clear that again Kelly does not want there to be a war he just wants to maintain a monopoly of force or at least some parody of power against a man who's proven time and again that he will use force in order to threaten the little or undermine those in power or individuals
Xavier is willing to get people the last benefit of the doubt because he can basically always resort to plan b which is make you do what I want f****** anyway which by the way is such a powerful plan b it's risky to make it plan a so it's understandable why he acts the way he does

It ought to be noted that Colossus DID go with the acolytes to the satellite, but he had not completely abandoned the X Men. He was on guard duty and allowed the X team to teleport in and didn't report it, by cleverly answering that he saw no trouble on earth when asked. he didn't want to outright lie to his new allies, either. He was more in the middle, and I expect Rogue to do something similar to act as a helper behind enemy lines. Colossus would eventually go on to join Excalibur after a short while. Oh, and I doubt the wigs were a mistake, more a choice made to make the display cases look better. Wigs aren't expensive, and they went to the trouble of mounting them to be seen.

I had a funny feeling when Cyclops split the team in to Blue and Gold and Blue team were going after Magneto.
I was thinking...wait a minute this storyline looks familiar.
Its a shame that the teams were not like the comics
Blue: Cyclops, Wolverine, Rogue, Gambit, Beast, Psylocke and Jubilee
Gold: Storm, Jean, Bishop, Iceman, Archangel, and Colossus. (Plus i would add Nightcrawler to this team)

I call bullshit that more people died in genosha than this attack. Mags attack effected the WHOLE planet and genosha was basically just a state. Mags attack would've effected every hospital on the planet killing people in the ICU and anyone else hooked up to a machine so infants to the elderly are dead. I think a good amount of people forget mag is a villain as iv seen some in support of his action. I understand why he did it but he is no different than the monsters he hates. I did like the touch of baston crying for his mom showing that he does have love for his family and is not a villain that was just using everyone.
If I had one negative about this episode it would be rogue and sunspot joining mag felt to fast and seem to only happen because the writers wanted the x-men to have more people to fight than just dog piling on mag. I mean dont they realize that mag killed a bunch of innocent people including mutants. I also was so into the episode that I did not realize that rogue was wearing gambits jacket. You also mention those who flat out hate the show and to be honest I have yet to run into any of these people. Even some that I watch on youtube seem to like the show.

Like in Executioner's Song, he was knocked out and, though he doesn't have the rapport that Jean and Scott have, she's still connected to his subconscious because she does actually care about him. I mean, I know, healing factor and all, but it would explain why he got up and give a lot more, in universe, context to the line he delivered before slicing open Magneto.
