How to Watch The Grand Tour in UHD [4K] With Amazon Prime Video TV App

  • When I watched the first episode of The Grand Tour it was in UHD and looked stunning. Since then every episode I've watched ahs been 1080p, which don't get me wrong is still great, but not quite as sharp as the HDR UltraHD episode one.
    When I was watching episode 4 last night with the boy I noticed that it was still in 1080p, so I just assumed that only the first episode was in UltraHD. This morning I checked the app and scrolled down. This is where I saw the UltraHD section. If you select episodes from here it is back to its UHD glory!
    So what you need to do is, rather than rely on Amazon to automatically give you the UltraHD version, you need to scroll down to the UltraHD section and watch the episode from there.
    This is the same for ANY Amazon UHD content!
    Obviously you need an UltraHD TV for this to work.

      It's daft isn't it! I couldn't work out what was going on, then I scrolled down. I don't know why it's not like netflix where it does it automatically. Glad it helped.

    Am using Prime on a PS4 Pro with HDCP ON, and outputting to a 4k HDR TV.
    The signal from the PS4 Pro to the TV is in 4k. TV says it’s getting 3840x2160 / 60p (60hz) input via HDMI UHD COLOR from the console, but prime says HD 1080p.
    UA-cam runs 4k perfectly fine through the PS4 Pro.

      @MySupercarLife  5 років тому

      This video is 2 years old, so may not work now. I'm not sure if the PS4 app supports UHD or not probably best to have a google and see if the app supports it. If not and you have a smart TV then try the App on there.

    Yes, a completely ridiculous system to have a separate series for a different resolution. And with the new interface now, this doesn't work because there's no "4k Ultra HD" section to scroll to, and the search doesn't find 99% of the 4K titles.
    Amazon's interface is a joke.

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  6 років тому +2

      Try this:
      On the left menu where it says 'Search - Home - Originals - Movies - TV" etc. Choose TV, then scroll down the list and it should be there under 'included with prime 4k ultra hd tv" - Give it a try!

    • @mrtickleuk
      @mrtickleuk 6 років тому +1

      Found. Thanks! I thought they had removed the whole section but they've just made it even harder to find :(
      They should have a single title for everything, and then SD/HD/4K versions WITHIN the single title. Like everyone else does.

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  6 років тому +1

      It would make sense wouldn't it, I don't know why it doesn't just pick the best resolution for the device you have. Glad you found it though!

      I have a question regarding finding 4K movies. I was reading an article saying Fury is available in 4K but when I click on movie it only show SD and HD for purchase. Also do Amazon do 4K versions of new films like wonder woman, if so how do you actually find them.

    • @mrtickleuk
      @mrtickleuk 6 років тому

      Amazon don't want you to find them - that's why they have split 4K versions into totally separate titles: to make it as cumbersome and unnecessarily awkward as possible. They don't care about having a nice UI or making content easy to find.

    This used to work. Now you have to search for the content. But also whatever you searched for shows up twice which one would presumably be 4K but neither of them are 4K now.

    • @MySupercarLife

      I had a look a few days ago, and it's completely changed. I couldn't find the 4k stuff either. If I find it then I'll do an update to this vid as it seems like it's still really vague to find the 4k content. Thanks for letting me know.

    For me there is no 4K section under home, but there is under "TV". Amazing that I had to resort to UA-cam and head scratching for half an hour to figure that out. Sort out your UI, Amazon!

    It appears that amazon prime changed their menu design and also menu options. I do not see the 4k category as an option anymore. Any help?

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  6 років тому

      I'vr just checked and it should be here:
      On the left menu where it says 'Search - Home - Originals - Movies - TV" etc. Choose TV, then scroll down the list and it should be there under 'included with prime 4k ultra hd tv" - Give it a try!

    • @mondayDPT
      @mondayDPT 6 років тому

      My Supercar Life I was attempting to find it on the PS4 pro, which does not have this option on the Amazon video app. I just did the research to find this puzzling news. Nexflix does have the option on their PS4 pro app and it looks incredible. Netflix requires a $6 per month uprgrade to get the 4k

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  6 років тому

      Ahhh right. Yes, Netflix is the same on the TV app, you can't watch 4K unless you pay extra for it. Bit strange that you can't watch Amazon in 4K, but I wonder whether it uses the same app for the PS4 as it does the PS4 Pro, so they haven't included the 4K option.

    Thanks! I spent forever trying digging through settings and everything to do it through my PC and the amazon application on the TV. It's so dumb that they have an entire separate video for 4K instead of making it accessible through the video or the main settings.

    do you need a 4k hdr tv? or does it work with a normal 4k tv?

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  7 років тому

      +Endurero as long as you have a 4k tv it will work and play in 4k.

    • @javicarlos1
      @javicarlos1 7 років тому

      My Supercar Life I don't see the option, it is just an UHD tv, not SUHD. I am in Spain, the app could be different

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  7 років тому

      +Endurero hmmm that's strange I've just checked the app again and it's still there. A uhd tv should still work the same though. The other way you might be able to access it is if you go into one of the section like "Amazon originals and exclusives" then at the top you'll see other categories like 4k ultra hd tv it's in there too

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  7 років тому

      It is HDR on my TV, which is why in the menu at 1:05 it says HDR and also when I play the episode at 1:30 it says HDR Ultra HD.
      So yes, it is HDR, but that depends on whether the app and your TV support it.

    • @Mysterious2887
      @Mysterious2887 7 років тому

      well my tv supports hdr and usually when i change the picture setting its says hdr but here it doesn't but on amazon it says hdr

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  7 років тому

      Someone else in the comments has a 2016 Samsung (Didn't say what model) and theirs only said 4K in the Amazon app and not HDR, even though their TV is HDR SUHD.
      I don't know if it's a region thing, and whether Amazon only offer HDR in certain areas or why it works that way. My TV is a UE55JS9000 - so it may also be a model thing. Not sure, but mine is 100% in 4K HDR

    • @Mysterious2887
      @Mysterious2887 7 років тому

      when i play hitman it comes out in 4k hdr though and i don't even have a ps4 pro its just a ps4

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  7 років тому

      There's nothing stranger than TV's - makes me wonder if some models only support HDR through HDMI inputs and not through apps like UA-cam, Amazon and Netflix. This could be true because the Samsung 9000 series have a separate control box (the One Connect Box) with an 8 core processor in it, and all of the processing hardware, this means that when new technology comes out you only have to replace the box, and not the screen. It's quite clever, apparently.
