500 bic my @ss TOS states that they reserve the right to charge you UP TO 1000 bux. Mines coming the 18th and my anxiety is rising cuz my rural internet is trash. We'll see how it goes.
Ok I’m definitely within the target market for this type of TV. Essentially I can’t afford to get a 4K TV and I personally don’t really care if my user data gets sold and I can easily deal with adds (heck I literally have never used any streaming websites that you can have access for free but you normally would have to go through a lot of adds premium subscriptions that will takeaway the adds or any form of ad blockers at all). Personally to get a free TV and all you need to accept is practically being ok with your user data getting sold and looking a adds is completely reasonable honestly. If I hear anyone say else wise I would need to ask them “then how would you legitimately think someone can get a free 4K TV then?” The only issue I would have is the always have to be on Wi-Fi. Now it being on Wi-Fi is of course not the issue here but is how will the company registered TVs that do disconnect from Wi-Fi? Like you will have to pay $500 (or in my case I live in the UK so I’ll would be paying it in £ equivalent) fine if you have your device disconnected from the Wi-Fi for a certain amount of times but how exactly will that work, what are their protocols for people that are having issues with their Wi-Fi which causes the TV to have to be disconnected, what about changing to different Wi-Fi and does it count on being off Wi-Fi if you turn off the TV? That’s only a few issues that I have that they would need too give us clarity involving also need to be connected to Wi-Fi because the likelihood of you getting a fine for something that’s out of your actual control is a pretty high risk in happening.
Well you have to be connected to "a" WiFi at all times, I don't think it has to be the same wifi. Apparently they allow some time every month so if you have wifi problems, it's fine. How much time? I don't know. Also, your TV can't be off (idk if that means it can't be off at all or for how long but there is a clause for that) or you will be in violation of the TOS. I just think it's a really bad deal because 55" 4K TVs are really cheap and specially given how extensive their TOS is, I think you can violate them pretty easily and then you are on the hook for $500 which is ridiculous. On top of that if they brick your TV (which I think they do) if you violate TOS is just beyond insane. Also, I don't know if this service is even available in the UK. I only see it as being available in US and here you can buy a new 55" 4K smart TV for ~$250, and you don't have to deal with any of this. I don't even know if UK would allow something like this given their laws are more strict than US laws.

Point is, $500 is a lot of money for a TV nowadays specially in US. Other markets where you can get Chinese TVs, are even more affordable. I don't think selling your data, specially in such a way and so much of it, should ever be acceptable. Let alone for just $500. I understand that's where the industry is heading but that doesn't make it right. As for your question, I imagine it's a fine and they will brick the TV if you breach the contract given how extensive their TOS is. This is incredibly exploitative. This kind of data collection and advertising should not be used as a punishment for someone who can't afford a TV. For anyone considering buying this: consider looking into the used market. Every day people are replacing TVs less than 10 years old and giving them away or selling them for next to nothing. There are options out there that don't require you to trade away your privacy.

Is that for personal use only?
Can hotels get it? Can a hospital or any other places that uses a tv for kiosking get it?
We do this already with our phones, except we pay for them too. At least you get the device for free this time
Depending on what kind of phone it is, you can turn a LOT of this kind of stuff off. To the point where it's basically not sharing anything. Here you don't have a choice.
I like your name and picture lol
This is incredibly exploitative. This kind of data collection and advertising should not be used as a punishment for someone who can't afford a TV.
For anyone considering buying this: consider looking into the used market. Every day people are replacing TVs less than 10 years old and giving them away or selling them for next to nothing. There are options out there that don't require you to trade away your privacy.
How do they not know what Pluto TV is 😂
I would put a tint film on the bottom screen
Paramount owns PlutoTV but Paramount+ is way better. Paramount makes the best movies.
The widgets are starting off basic. It's the weather, stock, sports, and news like shown in the pics. 4 sports at first, more coming later
1:20 im looking at you sky sports 👀
So they want my first born child also right ?
So they are targeting people who don't have money to buy a TV or are too greedy to pay money for products? 🤔🤔🤔
Shoutout Pluto TV. Its an absolute honor to work with an incredible team!
Pluto has been awesome since 2013. It is like cable was in 2004 during off prime time hours including on-demand and tons of reruns.
I like MKBHD's car more it has more details like headlines and door
How has no one mentioned that this is exactly like the screen from 1984 lmao
Would be good for stores and sports bar.
Idk if that's allowed in TOS, but that's the only place I can think of where this could work.
Now imagine coming back from a business trip, sitting down at the TV, and noticing that most of the ADs for pregnant women and fried chicken...
that’s FOUL 💀
This tv would be sick once they hack it after its released. Lol. If you can hack it to show different stuff might be with 500 for S&G's
Another step towards 1984
Honestly, this sounds about right nowadays.. lol
This feels genius and a terrible idea at once. 😅
Not me!!
All smart tvs already collect and sell your data to advertisers. I buy it daily.
"Sure David... it makes no sense" 💀
Samsung: write that down, write that down
Those ads are going to be worthless. They're trying to serve ads to people who are either poor or really like saving money. Not exactly a target demographic.
couldn’t I just put the tv into my second wifi network?
Eventually you would pay to not have ads i bet
Kinda reminds me of this book called "Qualityland"
Cool, where do I sign up?? My data is out there already and I prefer tailored ads anyway, bring it on!
I won't even have a smart speaker let alone something like this, it's just creepy
