Ok, I just made this today and it is the best recipe on the internet! Lanolin is the special ingredient! Thanks so much for this video! This is the most helpful thing I’ve found on UA-cam in the last few years! You sir, are amazing.
I know you posted this video a couple years ago, and I rarely (to never) post any comments on UA-cam, but this one is warranted... to me THAT was a great, informative video! And again, thanks for the post! I'll be checking out your others.

Hey, I tried making this today, and it turned out alright but I find it doesn't have much hold. Now I didn't add the Pepsi, because I get the sense from the video and your replies to people that the Pepsi is really meant to be a joke. But I'd just like to confirm, is the Pepsi adding hold (presumably through the sugar?) or is it really just a joke and makes no difference if you add it or don't?
The pepsi is a gag. I'm surprised it's not giving you the hold you need. I still use this all the time and I've never tweaked the formula from what's in the video.
I was researching for a cosmetic formulation and run into Lanolin and has tons of benefits and I even had it on my to buy list until I researched the bad side of it. If Lanolin works for you than is great, unfortunately it tends to trigger allergic reactions in some people and for this reason is cheaper than other other emollients.
First off, Duke, that's an awesome first name. I'll grant you the lanolin has a distictly weird smell but it mostly goes away yielding to the beeswax, and essential oils. Then the remaining slight odor still there when you install it in your stache dissapears in minutes. Trust me, I wouldn't make it this way if I had to smell a stench all day. Have you tried my recipe yet? Do it and let me know. And don't forget the drop of Pepsi!
Amazing Video, im pretty sad actually that I didn't saw it earlier. Had to buy 4 waxes to figure out that homemade is always better. My first batch was made by just beeswax and coconut oil, 2:1. And a few drops of fragrant oil of course. I want to try your recipe now, but I wondered what the purpose of the lanolin is? Where does it help? Thanks for the video anyways, greetings from germany.
The lanolin makes all the difference. Its the right amount of tackiness and allows you to shape your stache in a way that will stay. It lasts throughout the day.
Just made up a two tin stache of this -- used Mexican coca-cola (I think the pure cane sugar might add something over corn syrup) with anise extract and some spruce tips for scent -- strained out the spruce when pouring. Just now used the over-pour and am stylin' -- came out excellent! Now just need those mustache shaped tins mentioned in the thred below; I used altoids tins for the flip-top action, but no doubt the proper shaped ones will make it even more awesomore .. so far I can only find them in a sold-out mustache soap product...
Awesome Craig! Those spruce tips and anise star must make for an excellent scent. You'll find the lanolin scent goes away pretty fast. My only dismay is that you used Coke. Coke might spoil the entire thing. [I hate coke!] Real sugar Pepsi is the way to go. 😂
@@joelnert Well, I hate Pepsi -- HA! (its a little too sweet for my taste). I remember the "Pepsi Challenge" where in my neck of the woods they did it at events like fairs in hot weather; they would have the Pepsi chilled and Coke left out unrefrigerated in the sun -- but I could always taste the difference and picked the warm Coke (that did in fact taste horrid hot) over Pepsi much to their shock and dismay. This was the "real" Coke before the Great New Formula Conspiracy and subsequent foisting of Coca Cola Classic with the change to corn syrup... Such villainous plotting from both companies I can envision the mustache twisting that occurred! @@craigdilworth1676 with a response like that you're my favorite Coke lover! To my regret I've never been able to take the Pepsi challenge at a mall in the 80s.
@@joelnert Ok, took awhile but I finally found some Pepsi "MADE WITH Real SUGAR" -- definitely better than Pepsi, or Coke for that matter, made with corn syrup. Now to compare it with Coca-Cola bottled in Mexico made with cane sugar (I used to have to go to Canada to get it with real sugar; now some local stores carry the Mexican stuff): hrmmm *twists mustache fortified with recent batch of wax in contemplation* ... similar, the Pepsi is a bit sweeter when it first hits your mouth, and the sweetness lingers more, but not cloyingly like Pepsi with corn syrup or worse: artificial sweeteners. I still would pick Coke with cane sugar as my go to cola -- I like that its not as sweet, but if I was in the mood for a sweeter soft-drink as I sometimes am, the Pepsi with real sugar isn't bad. Difference in listed added sugar: Mexican Coke at 39g per 355ml versus Pepsi at 40g "real sugar" per 355ml. Probably there's more to the formulas than that one extra gram of sugar which makes Pepsi taste sweeter to me... I think the Coke might be more carbonated, which would also lessen the perceived sweetness by adding more "bite." Need to grab my trusty 'ol Zahm & Nagel to confirm that theory! But, I have always be able to belch better (louder, longer, more disgustingly as evidenced by female reactions) with Coke versus Pepsi, so the Belch'O'Meter puts Coke at a higher level of carbonation. Just finishing up the two bottles now... Coke seems to have retained more carbonation to the end, which indicates it started with a higher CO2 concentration. Last pull here with Coke... final thoughts: *BBBBEEEEEOOOOOLLLLLLLLUUUUUUUUUUCCCCHHH!!!* Yeah, that's the stuff!
