i like this videoooo and like i agreeeeee buttttt, i don't think 'hyperpop' is a concept that exists. the artists and pioneers that emmerged during the inception of that musical landscape didn't really take ownership over the title "hyperpop", so the fact that it even lacks a definition of the 'genre' from the artists that it is made by makes what it means very wobbly. u can usually define what a word means by making sense of the cultures in which a word is used in, but in this case you can say "anesthesia by ryan hall is hyperpop" in the first sentence, and then in the next say "360 by charli xcx is hyperpop"??? am i tweaking or is there absolutely nothing in common with those two songs. (was that a weird example tho?) my point is that "hyperpop" is a word that was born out of corporations trying to label music often created by minorities, trying to very illogically push these artists under a very vague umbrella. this is harmful because now artists are trying so hard to meet these arbitrary standards that spotify playlists, and critics have established, with the hopes of gaining more traction that way. am i making sense??? so while i completely agree that this song is really sterile and kind of unimaginative just in my opinion (tbh i don't really like this song either), but just because it is glaive hopping on a track with mgk doesn't mean it HAS to be an experimental "hyperpop" track, u get what i mean? experimentation in music doesn't need to mean 'glitchy production', or 'grandiose instrumentation', that in itself limits how much u can experiment with music u know. ily tho, its just that "hyperpop" as a label needs to stop imo, at least as a term that is used lmk what u think
that was a well thought out SA LMAO and i do agree. I used “hyperpop” in the video cause, well, like you said it is an umbrella term. there was a portion of the video i clipped where i went more in depth about different root artists of the genre, and discussed how glaive was one of those artists who inadvertently thrusted the genre into the main stream. your totally not tweakin tho, i feel the exact same way. as for the experimentation, i just wanted the song to do something different, daring, or interesting. glaive was marketed as a “hyperpop” artist (umbrella term) on MGKs “pop punk” album; i would have loved to hear some sort of boundary pushing song because that’s what it’s marketed as. but not only did i not get experimental, i got next to nothing- it was just a slog to listen 2 :/ songs don’t always have to be “deep” or “boundary pushing” but if it’s not even good in the first place, then what’s the reason of me listening other then just to be gaslit into believing, “oh this is a good hyperpop song!” lmaoo we’re deff on the same page and it’s an interesting topic. if i ever get to a reasonable sized audience, this is second channel material right here to write up and talk about 🙂↕️ thanks for being so thoughtful w/ ur response
@@po9t omg yes i agree this is a very good take, and its so weird to call a track like that an "innovative hyperpop song" lmaooo i completely see where ur coming from now, and a collaboration like that would demand a lot more effort in terms of making something nuanced but that clearly didn't happen. some key things i missed out in my comment was that i definitely agree with the fact that the lyricism is really schmaltzy and corny, particularly on mgk's end and that i also realised that the production is almost trying too hard to almost amalgamate pop punk and hyperpop with the half baked midwest emoey guitars in the intro, and the trap hihats and the overdone autotune and all that but in the end it just sounds like a very bland pop punk thing with some very weird and random "hyperpop" elements. but yes i totally agree with this as well and it actually gave me a lot more clarity to ur perspective. ALSOOO the remix was fucking sickkkkkk i forgot to mention :))

You interested in doing a video on how to Frailty by Jane Remover? Sorry if this is annoying or if the album isn't your style.
