- Follow along as we install a set of ET30 16" Method Racing Wheels on a Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia. A few things we needed to make this wheel package work were extended wheel studs, custom 3D printed center caps and some spacers for the rear springs. Thanks for watching. JC.
Hope everybody is staying safe out there and keeping clear of The Rona. I'm looking forward to the end of this whole Quarantine mess and getting back to life as usual. Thanks for watching guys and gals. JC.
What did you do for a spare tire? If you used the 16" wheel, did you modify the front clam shell carrier?
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD please tell me what make and model that spring compressor is!!! Nice vid!
You should have taken the hubs off to punch out the wheel bolts. The impacts could have twisted the hub. And the grooves are called splines not narraled parts. Should have put a skim of copperslip to allow them to seat easier
they seemed to tap out with hammer easily.
JC, you did an amazing job getting this installed. The ride is so much better and for some reason the speedo is more accurate. Murph thanks you too 😁
Murph is looking mighty fine!
Any help in you guys could give to help me achieve something similar would be great. I’m importing an 88’ from my home country of the UK this week. Very excited to get her comfortable in her new home ☺️
Also where are you guys based?
Love the van, TWINS!
I like the stock look but this upgrade suits "Murf"!
I wouldn't give a shout-out to that Jeremy guy either....I hear he's a hack. :D
Seriously, nice job. Every time I see one of these vids it stokes my irrational interest in owning a Vanagon, though I have no actual need for such a large daily driver.
Funny you should post a video today...I finally had a need to use my GB40 jump pack this morning after I ran an errand and left my lights on in the parking lot. Had no problem jump starting my 4 cylinder engine with the GB40, so nuts to everybody who was dissing them in your earlier videos!
I'm thinking on getting those wheels...the look great...i have a few questions about offset...any way I can speak to you on phone ?thanks
If you want to send me your phone number I can have Ed (owner of the brown westy) give you a call. Its his project. I just helped him with the wheel install. If you have offset and wheel questions you should get in touch with T3technique. They helped Ed get this combo figured out. JC.
Airlift airbags also work on sagging springs, and help level unbalanced loads
Man that looks soooooo much better. Great job.
Great upload , Really enjoy your videos
Any rubbing issues? Looks a bit large for the quarter panel opening.
Heiko's Garage Nope. Fits great. No rubbing anywhere. JC.
After 4 months and the suspension settling, I get a very slight rub in front when I have the wheel turned at full radius and I am backing up. (It’s the point when you hear the power steering groaning at you. ) It’s not bad and I just slightly back it off, which I should do anyway due to the power steering load.
idaho falls is best falls.
Nicely done! Other than an engine shop, a wheel upgrade is the best upgrade to do on a Vanagon. VW should have fitted 16 inch rims as stock.
love those wheels.. Was there a part number from Method? - looking for something on my new 1982 Westfalia..
aren't buses supposed to be a little higher in the front? when two people sit in the seats it evens out
Matt Jackson Possibly. You add in camping gear and rear passengers and you're right back to square one. I like mine level with a stiffer spring. JC.
@@Volkswear ah yeah true true
It’s really good to see free spirit and creativity I think there’s hope for the USA.
I can hear Bob in the background. Easy brother…😊

Matt Jackson They are great tires. Filled a void for lots of VW guys when BFG decided to stop making the 14" tires. JC.
So cool and the bottom line $ is ?
Liberty Patriot The package came in around $1600-$1700 if I remember right. That includes the spring spacers, lug bolts/nuts, studs, 3D printed center cap spacers, stainless hardware, etc. Doesn't include any of the labor for mounting, balancing and install. JC.
Thanks I just got the exact wheels so this vid is super helpful!!. Any chance you could share a contact for the 3-d print center cap extender
Heya where exactly can I get those wheels I want some for my syncro here in Australia 🇦🇺 they look spot on 👍
Awesome video man! I cant wait to get rid of my skinny, short stock wheels/ tires.
Any tool source info on that specific spring compressor you used in the rear for that
Is there anyway to get the stl file for the center caps? :D
I am looking and can't for the life of me find the ExCentric Metal Works guy (Brandon & Eric) to see if they can reprint the center caps..... Help??? if you can, thanks
Xcentric Metal Worxx
Shoot me an email at cuttsjeremy@yahoo.com and I will get you in touch with Edward who owns the van. He can get you their contact info. Thanks for watching. JC.
I notice that 8-year-old single cab project in the video. Will that ever get complete?
Zachary Rodek Yep its still here along with about a dozen other Split Windows. Hopefully it gets done someday. Right now I spend a fair amount of my time providing for a family and raising two teenage daughters. Not always a lot of time or money left over for my projects. Thanks for asking though. JC.
Where can I get does spacers?
looks good
Nice ride. I'm about to put some of the Method's on my Syncro. Where are you guys based out of in Idaho?
Gracias. We are in Idaho Falls.
@@Volkswear I'm over in Ketchum and thinking of putting the same wheels on my Syncro but with 225/75/16's. With the offset, and it being a lifted Syncro, do you think I'll need the spacer in order to clear the lower trailing arm?
@@sveytia I would plan on longer studs in the back and 8mm spacers. Thats what I'm running on my Syncro with 215/85R16's. My wheel offset isn't ideal though. You may even end up trimming a little on the rear control arm pinch weld. JC.
@@Volkswear Thanks for the heads-up. I was thinking I might have to trim a bit on the pinch weld. I was hoping I could stay away from the spacer with the E30 offset Methods. I have plenty of room with my 215/70/16's andI have the lift but that doesn't make much of a difference.
@@sveytia If I were you I would get in contact with T3technique. They will be able to give you more information. I've only done a few wheel tire combos on Vanagons so I'm by no means an expert on the subject. Best of luck with it. JC.
What rear spacer set is that?
craig muszynski Its a set we source locally. I can probably get you set if you are interested. JC.
@@Volkswear ok thanks. I'm in the middle of getting a 1983 diesel back on the road. Once I get the front springs done and where it sits I'll contact you. Thanks for the channel!!
craig muszynski What Springs are you putting on your Van?
@@Volkswear I'm using a napa spring...I don't remember the exact number but can find out. Recommended by several people with tin tops I've talked to. Will be running 205r16 on mefro wheels
craig muszynski Are you doing front and rear springs at the same time or just the front? I just did a set of Schwenk springs on my Syncro. Much better than the progressives I had on it before. JC.
Nice video and choice of wheels/tires, I would add a rear space to flush the rear wheels out a bit or use a 15 ET in back.
Zero benefit for reliability. More money than common sense?
