I thought they shot parts of an actual city and then rendered the fight on top of that. It was ALL CGI!! And yet the office was a MINIATURE?! Holy crap!!
well, when it is a live action anime, everybody ignores.. still, it doesn't need crap like those. it just needs to feel like a real mecha live action. I am looking forward to see the sequel!
Visuals were literally out of this world! Seamless CGI to real world environment! Topped most movies that I've seen! I watch movies 2 or three times and notice well where the digital stands out from the real world, and boy I have yet to find it after the 4th time watching :D Amazing job! I pay tribute to all of you by staying for the credits and seeing who truly makes these amazing movies come to life! :)
The effects in this film were stunning. The best parts of the film were with the monsters and robots. They actually looked massive and hulking. Much better than the robots in previous films.
"but it doesnt work with an oil tanker" ... damned right, a boat taken out of water in that fashion would simply collapse under its own weight (imagine picking up a overly long swiss-role or cake and swing it around) ... but what the hell, we all just shouted "hell yeah" when we saw that scene
This is probably my favourite fight sequence of all time. You guys did phenomenal work. I watch all your videos over and over and over again to figure out what's going on and how you did it, so that I can learn it myself.
it's a lot easier (or seems to be) than simulating all that not even including modeling and texturing and sending it through the rest of the pipeline. Also would be cheaper than paying all those individual artists and no one has the ultra rendering power of giant art studios. right?
this looks so hard to be made lol so wait you guys don't use a building library? 0.o it was all made for this shot? wow my favorite movie of the last year :) ... btw love the car inside that container XD 2:22 lol
What skills do you guys generally look for when you hire someone? And wish are the most used softwares? Maya? Cinema 4D? I hope i can give it a shot in some years.
Welcome to Hong Kong!!! The capital of giant monster movies and ... hey wait, that's Tokyo. :| Why'd they ... (checks Pacific Rim's box-office earnings in China) Oh. I get it now ^o^
It's so sad that i bought the bluray waiting to have extra content like the one you guys have uploaded in here, but much more. Now i think that your youtube channel has far more content than in the bluray.
It always makes me laugh when they show these giant animations of a city, transformers or any other movie where people are not bothered by two giant robots fighting in the city center and there is just too much traffic. Takes it away from the realism a little.

Where's my jaw, somewhere around here... XD
"The tanker is too big it wont work as a bat"
PHYSICS BE DAMNED! ITS PACIFIC RIM!
Still can't believe this didn't get an Oscar nomination...

Can we just take a moment to appreciate, that the ILM sr.visual effects art director's last name is "Jaeger". That's awesome

Pacific rim should've been nominated for best visuals for the oscars and golden globes.
It is an absolute crime that this movie was not nominated for Best Visual Effects.
I loved this movie. I think it was completely underrated

Damn when games get graphics like this id be happy though I will be damn near 100
haha yeah
At 1:51 the guy's name is really "Jaeger"?! That's a hell of a coincidence!
The shot of Gypsy running like a linebacker towards the monster was one of my favorite shots in the movie.
The entire movie is awesome, but this is definitely the stand out sequence. Rocket-powered fist-pump!
How this didnt get nominated for best visual effects academy award still baffles me!

Whoa those miniatures... I had no idea.
Amazing work guys! I hope you make a sequel!
Its weird how a lot of studios dont use a "mini-set" technique. Should be more common.
Try and find the video ILM put up SOMEWHERE on the office shot they did for transformers, also insane
I also saw that awhile ago, miniature sets seem to be one of the things that make ILM stand out. mixing old effects with new effects.
I love it, best kind of effects! Then again this full CG set did blow my mind
Too labor intensive for a 10 second scene?

Need to say the making of are real great and interresting for cgi lovers. Quality of movie and athmosphere is real great. Thx for posting
i wanna know how long it took to render
Me too

Huge Oscar snub, if you ask me.
Pacific Rim has reignited my interest in CG the way that Jurassic Park originally did! Amazing work and the breakdown videos are fascinating!
This should've been nominated for an academy award.
Love it! I was very curious about the scenes taken in Hong Kong. It looked amazing!
Amazing visual effects. I can already picture how much cgi will develop.
You guys are doing a fantastic job, Phenomenal.
This movie wasn't nominated for Best Visual Fx at the Oscars but Lone Ranger was?.. WTF -_-
Thanks for the awesome work guys!!
This effects budget must be pushing $200mm.
Holy cow.
My favourite fight sequence of the movie!
How did this not get a vfx nomination??
Oh wow, I didn't knows miniatures were used. That's amazing.

Hell yeah been hoping for this!!
I LOVED this movie.

I don't get it. Why didn't Pacific Rim get a nomination for visual effects?! D:
... cool.

It almost looks like the robots did more damage to Hong Kong than the Kaiju in this movie.
Amazing movie!!!! I loved it!!!!! Where is my god dam shoe!!!! Lol!!!!!!!
Great stuff! U R the best, guys!
I really want ton be a visual effects supervisor... Does anybody know if I could learn what with ILM?

incredible
that's it! i wanna work for ILM!

How much of the software you use is custom made?
Just amazing
What skills do you guys generally look for when you hire someone? And wish are the most used softwares? Maya? Cinema 4D? I hope i can give it a shot in some years.
Haw long did it take to render one single frame out of the 3D-program?
how long does it take you guys to render a cgi scene ?
Behind the magic? I thought this was science fiction?! XD
Yup, film industry it is! Here I'm coming.
Badass
That is a lot of work.... pfew....
