    When I was around 10, my friends and I spent a day playing with a big cardboard box. One of us had a house with a big staircase so we took turns getting sealed in the box with a couple of cushions or pillows and the others threw the box down the stairs. The 70s - Good times.

    • @katydid5088
      @katydid5088 3 роки тому +10

      We had a freaky ancient staircase in my grandparents barn that we put a tarp down and then wrapped another one on couch cushions (that we weren't supposed to be using this way for sure, We got spanked for it after we got warned the first time.) And slid down from the top.
      For context, my grandparents farm house was built in 1902 and the barn in 1904. All the staircases are built for functionality. Steep as hell with tiny added railing, going to tiny box ended bedrooms. My grandparents didn't care about having electricity through out the house till I was a teenager. So, no lights or heating or cooling after dark. You brought up a flashlight or used one of the gas lamp fixtures in the wall.
      The only modern thing about that house was that they put skylights and a modern kitchen in beside the bathroom. They kept the 1920s wood stove for emergencies in the downstairs for when the power went out.
      But getting back to the windows, they served as vents and excellent places to climb up onto the roof and look out when your room got too hot.
      One of my cousins went sledding off the roof from those. Again not with anyones blessing. If I remember correctly, my brother put him up to go first because he thought of it, but chickened out by the time they built the landing. They only managed to do it once because it sounded like God or Satan was plaguing the house with hellfire when he slid off. My grandparents were too steaming mad (and now that I recognize it, scared) to discipline them for that one.
      Ah, good times.

    • @charlesfreeman8215
      @charlesfreeman8215 3 роки тому +1

      This doesn't make any sense. If a nut is stuck, a vise grip is the worse thing because it only grabs the nut on two places. An actual wrench would be way better for a stuck nut since it grabs in all 6 sides. I think your point is that vise grips are better for random things that get stuck, not bike parts lol

      @@charlesfreeman8215 usually can't fit an actual wrench on a rusted nut because the rust messes up the shape so much. If it's not rusted bad enough to mess.ip the shape then you prolly don't need vise grips yeah. Also a wrench only grabs in 2 places technically as well. Unless you're using one of those 12 point sides on a box wrench which is gonna make it way worse. Some vise grips actually make a hex shape when closed for additional grip

    Thanks for posting. It’s very interesting to see that you were taking Bikes apart and learning by doing basic repairs back in your youth. That’s what I did when I was a kid back in the day. I am 72 now and frequently get text from younger bike buddies asking if I can fix something simple on their bike. I get lots of good beer in exchange. Been a big fan of your channel for a long time.

This was such an awesome video, amazing how your past can really give clues to your future. Looks like you were an awesome kid Seth, thanks for the lifetime of videos.

    Seth, as someone who is only a few years older than you and grew up with the big VHS-C camcorder in the family, it is awesome seeing these old video clips. Wish I could find the old tapes of me jumping off our driveway ledge on my banana seat bike that was WAY too big for me at the time.

    As a fellow 90s kids, we were built different! My mom likes to tell the story of the first injury I can't remember on two wheels. Riding along the top of a curb as a skinny and riding right in to a mail box and getting clotheslined right off the bike. Glad we all wear helmets now, even if it might be a little too late!

    Born in 93 I had no interest in riding a bicycle growing up. All I wanted to do was ride dirt bikes. Right before my 5th birthday I asked and begged for a Yamaha 50 dirt bike but my dad would always say "you can't even ride a regular bike why would I buy you a dirt bike?" I asked if I learned to ride a bicycle before my birthday would he buy me one and he kinda laughed it off and agreed as he left for work. In those hours while he was gone my mom watched from the kitchen as I tought myself to ride my looney tunes bike in the front yard. When my dad got home he couldn't believe it and followed through with his agreement and I got that Yamaha. After that I've always enjoyed both styles and now many years later i ride almost nothing but mtb, spending most of my time hitting local jump lines and hope to make the few hours drive to Seth's Park once it's open.
    This is by far my favorite video I've seen from Seth simply because all the memories it brought back for me.

    Kinds these days just can't have the childhoods we had in the 80's / 90's ...
    Want to talk about the "golden days", those were it. And this, coming from someone born in 1988.
    I got so many fond memories, I remember building a bow and actual arrows (sharpened pointy sticks) and actually shooting it at my friends ... where's the safety gear there lol.
    Sure we got cuts and bruises, along with broken bones on the regular, but we lived and had fun. We didn't judge the other kids for what they had or didn't have, what they wore or didn't wear, what color skin they had or where they came from.
    Thanks for the throwback Seth ^^
