Finally, someone agrees with me, James is underrated. Not ashamed to admit I'm a huge fan of his haha. Thanks for reacting to this, it was a hard hitter to the emotions that's for sure.
I have mad respect for how James powered through, faced Iam, and pulled him through. I have never seen more grief on a face than when Iam broke down and turned to James.

Iam had sung this song with his dad. It was the only other time that he had sung it as a duet. His dad had also sung the harmony, with Iam singing the lead. In this duet with James, Iam was the one who was singing harmony- his dad's part, so it had to have made it even more overwhelming for Iam. It must have been especially hard to not have the guitar for comfort. .

As far as any recommendations are concerned, it depends on what you're looking for:
- Most creative interpretation: "The Sounds of Silence"
- Most fun, joyful: "Don't Let Go"
- Most complete overall performance: "Bring It on Home to Me"
However, if there is one song that I'd recommend, it would be "Photograph" - his duet with Oliver Steele (Iam's best bud on the show, Iam lovingly called him "Oliver Dawg"). I thought that rendition best showcased Iam's greatest asset ... his huge heart. He just loved being on stage with his big brother and it showed brilliantly. The audience reaction was electric. Ed Sheeran (who wrote the song and was on the program as a guest judge) was positively beaming during the performance.

That intro had me tearing up before the song even started. This whole performance is as heartbreaking as it is beautiful. They are two men on that stage who have lost their dads and the support James Blunt offers Iam is so genuine. Even though James' dad survived Both their fathers were on the stage that night. Also props to Jelly Roll for supporting Iam's mom in the audience.

When I saw this the words 'two men saying goodbye' changed for me. I saw two grown men saying goodbye to their beloved fathers. Their emotions and love for them shone through. James supported Iam in his grief which was beautiful. Such a powerful performance.

That's the beauty. Iam has the light shining on him but it reverts back to the original artist, and he has shared some of his stardom with some of the other contestants.

when he turned to james, you could see how iam was begging james to continue the song, probably he was meant to sing a little more of that line or something, iam needed that moment. james did amazing adjusting to the situation. that cry and face for help broke me down.

In answer to your question about what Iam should do next, I almost think it doesn’t matter. As great as the singing has been, his artistic choices have been equally impressive. Never seen someone so young so comfortable accessing his inner self through song. So if he goes commercial and does classics like Simon and Garfunkel, or something artistic or his own works or island contemporary, we’ll buy it and be confident we’ll like it. I do hope a duo album with Oliver is in the future. Maybe two. So as a voice teacher, maybe you can answer this question. Why do few pop singers use vibrato?

Lillie had mentioned that Iam's dad, Rodney, knew his days were limited. Rodney sings harmony with his eyes closed during most of the video, but once in awhile he'll look at Iam. The gaze near the end of the video is especially heartbreaking, because you can see the longing on his dad's face for that "one more day" with him..
