You don't even need to tune it. That has been fairy tales since forever that a full system "damages" the engine if not tuned. It running lean is out of the question as well, because that's what a O2 sensor is designed for. Of course a tune is nice, but it's not neccessary. Btw goodluck on the ZX14R! looking forward to the build-up videos
Bet my old wellies you find some surprises of things wrong when you start repairs always the way when working on used gear be it cars bikes or other stuff. The fairing and some of the other stuff might be repairable with plastic welding, if so might be worth a try as replacement copy fairings can be variable in quality. Good luck
Is the lock cylinder destroyed or does it just need a key? Many lock cylinders are coded and a key can be made from that. Otherwise, I once had a locksmith make a new key for a Givi case that I had lost the key to. I had ordered a new lock cylinder that didn't fit.
That's quite a list. Don't forget bolts etc. Those brake discs look very rusty. If you get it mint for $4,500 you'll have done well (what's the mileage?)
What you can do with the pipes is wrap it with a carbon fibre wrap I did it once with an 04 ZX10R that got knocked over Love the 14, I would describe it as a Honda Blackbird with 200bhp If I was you I would an upright bar conversion, cost about $200 for parts and you will have the ultimate tourer Also that exhaust came from the factory so bikes setup for it
I wonder why it crashed. Was it entirely rider error? Could it have been bad suspension geometry? I hope ya cover all your bases there Hero. Love your vids.
The person who stole it probably didn't have the brains to be careful. My brother had a 2000 Honda CBR1100XX stolen in 2001. The person who stole it wrecked it. Jerks will be jerks.
It's not bad at all... For the exhaust, he can get replacement end caps & canister skins for cheap. Plastics are cheap as hell these days (fractions of the cost of OEM Fairings). Entire upgraded coolant hose kits are like pennies. Used Radiator and he has a major profit if he decides to sell.
You can buy individual parts for Akra systems. A good parts guy should be able to find a part number for the sleeves for the cans and the carbon tips. Personally I’d take the whole system out and clean/polish it, those headers look like garbage but will polish up beautiful.
Don’t waste time welding the radiator if you’re going to replace it anyway. If it’s because you want to start it up for 10 seconds then do it without any coolant in it - it won’t make a difference what so ever.

Considering a new ZX14 is 15 grand + taxes, pdi etc. If he spends 5 grand to make it look like new, not too bad.
Imma be waiting for this series, i can't wait, that's gonna turn out sooo fuckin awesome
Not going to be as fun as the Fireblade series,,coz I have one that needs rewired,,but the X-14 is actually the 2nd best bike to see a nice project on,,cant wait to see Hero get started
Great project, looking forward to it!
The aero design of the mirrors tells everything about this beast.
You should keep them and install a tail tidy instead.
I just bought my ZX14r don't be ashamed to call it your dream bike. I've loved them since dot.
Looks great. Looking forward to the build.
Cool vid. Good to see developments coming.
It won’t fix your whole exhaust I know but I think you can get new carbon end cap for the exhaust
Bet my old wellies you find some surprises of things wrong when you start repairs always the way when working on used gear be it cars bikes or other stuff. The fairing and some of the other stuff might be repairable with plastic welding, if so might be worth a try as replacement copy fairings can be variable in quality. Good luck
What's your plan to solve the "no key" problem? That could turn out to be a very expensive adventure.
Key sets come with the new ignition. Will also include the gas cap too
He is also going to need a key for the seat. My Concours 14 has the keyless thing but still needs a key to get the seat off.
@@OHBUCKEYESisBACK immobilizer and ECU wont recoginse new keys, very tricky to solve...
Is the lock cylinder destroyed or does it just need a key? Many lock cylinders are coded and a key can be made from that. Otherwise, I once had a locksmith make a new key for a Givi case that I had lost the key to. I had ordered a new lock cylinder that didn't fit.
Maybe you can paint the cans or powder coat them the front fender can be painted just looks like some scratches
Put a Brocks exhaust on it later on
Shoukd be a nice build though
looking forward for the future videos good luck mate.
That's quite a list. Don't forget bolts etc. Those brake discs look very rusty.
If you get it mint for $4,500 you'll have done well (what's the mileage?)
What you can do with the pipes is wrap it with a carbon fibre wrap
I did it once with an 04 ZX10R that got knocked over
Love the 14, I would describe it as a Honda Blackbird with 200bhp
If I was you I would an upright bar conversion, cost about $200 for parts and you will have the ultimate tourer
Also that exhaust came from the factory so bikes setup for it
I wonder why it crashed.
@@alanhassall yeah. "Drive it like ya stole it."
My dream bike since it was released, a fantastic project I will follow closely
It's not bad at all... For the exhaust, he can get replacement end caps & canister skins for cheap. Plastics are cheap as hell these days (fractions of the cost of OEM Fairings). Entire upgraded coolant hose kits are like pennies. Used Radiator and he has a major profit if he decides to sell.
Yesss! Very cool! The ZX14R IS my dream bike. I'm very much looking forward to this build!!
So glad this beauty found a new family
You can buy individual parts for Akra systems. A good parts guy should be able to find a part number for the sleeves for the cans and the carbon tips. Personally I’d take the whole system out and clean/polish it, those headers look like garbage but will polish up beautiful.
Waiting for the series
The fireblade series was one of the favorite series of you
men i just got one. same year. and its a beast
I was waiting for this nice!
Don’t waste time welding the radiator if you’re going to replace it anyway.
If it’s because you want to start it up for 10 seconds then do it without any coolant in it - it won’t make a difference what so ever.
I subbed to make sure I see how this goes.
Congrats
Hopefully it wasn't run without oil after the cover was holed.
You should get it started before you put any more money into it.
Oil pressure switch
Great video. Can’t wait to see the rebuild progress. Thanks for sharing
Reach out if you find you need a new tank. I have a brand new ZX14R tank never used sitting on a shelf.
Jesus 2800 seems steep for how that is especially considering it's a stolen bike that was on an salvage title
wow respect to you that you are going to take on this project. Here the next one is a 1991 honda transalp really from a barn ;-)
Hell yeah brother!
This bikes are extra nice fixed up nicely
Heartbreak...I have this exact bike 2012 ZX14R SE....mine isn't like this, fortunately....
Congrats on your brand new buy bro kill them Busa's now bro
Love your projects i wish i ham the half of the knowledge that you have 🏍🏍🏍🏍
Zx12 a1 would bang on this
It’s going to be a ride lol. Took me a bit but my 1957 BSA was a fun project
I hate thieves and hope u get that bike to normal
Looking forward to this rebuild!
How does having a full system damage the engine
