Annoying beep AND lose one of your precious three channels of the music. Honestly it's the messed-up music that bothered me the most. Remember what Wizards&Warriors did? It actually had a special "you're about to die" music track, but that was annoying too...
Damn, If Nintendo could be like that once again. They have become softier than the clouds man... [although I don't really wish an Identical metroid like this one unless Its gameplay Is like the other metroids >.
I actually knew I think all of it but I have no idea how. I played it around 1990, way before the net. I'm guessing I had a Nintendo Power guide and map but I have no idea. There's no way I could have discovered all that on my own
"Samus, you were supposed to leave on your mission to defeat mother brain like, half an hour ago!" _puts MB's eye on the table_ "Good work, I knew I could count on you"
We're enjoying a speedrun like this tear through the game but even still Nintendo did such an amazing job of creating atmosphere for an 8bit game and the feeling you got as you went deeper and deeper into Norfair when the colors and bubbles would change.
One of the most amazing things ever. This game had its own kind of beauty. I love the "almost" physics. My imagination was so free when I was playing this as a kid.
That's the Kraid theme song. Check out the remastered more epic version, Kraid theme from Metroid Zero Mission (is an official Nintendo, Metroid 1 remake, but just check out for the song on UA-cam)
Ah yes man destroys my childhood in less than 40 mins. I used to be scared of the scope of the map and how huge it was. Not to mention all the trap rooms
I can't even get the Missiles without dying once or twice. Starting with only 30 units of energy is not a good thing (until you get the Varia Suit of course).
Good job! It's funny that the franchise is almost 30 years old and the major secret of the game (Samus Aran is a girl) still is a secret for many people :D
Well... then they're stupid like a piece of bread... in super metroid it's easy to find out... you just have to die and her suit disapears and you'll see that it's a girl... or you just be "smart" enough to use google
I have to say that that run was the best i have ever seen, you did not stop from your course not even once, not once did you lose where you were considering the use of the glitches and second player level resets , absolutely amazing
As a kid, I remember being so good at Metroid (or so I thought) that the day I beat the game in less than 2 hours without dying once, I thought to myself, "Well, my work is done here." I played through it probably 12-15 times to get that good. I shudder to think what getting THIS good at it took. Some of the predictive missile shots are crazy and many of the morph ball bounce stutter steps are just beautiful. Well done.
I played the hell outta this, could probably beat it in like 30 mins, but not anymore since I haven't played in years. This game is sort of cryptic, but not too cryptic to where you can never figure it out with lot a walkthrough. One of the reasons that the game was cryptic was not because of hidden secrets you need to find, but because how everything looked too similar. I remember getting lost as hell in Norfair trying to get to Ridley's lair. Kraids lair everything looks the same too but Kraids lair is much smaller and much easier to learn where to go. I also hated starting with 30 health Everytime I died, the enimies in this game take a lot of life especially in Norfair. 30 health is way too fucking low. If my health ever got low or I got tired of playing, I would die in a level with a energy tank near, since they refill your health and increase it. This game is really about learning where to go, if you know that, then this game is not too difficult. Not even mother brain is that hard for me, none of the bosses were. Not knowing where to go was the challenge for me.
Lol walks in Ridley’s room at 21:05, SMOKES him, then leaves the room before he even dies ans comes out the other side of the door in a pose. Hilarious!
while this is classic, I do prefer the remake. difficulty in this one was unintended, just a side effect of the limitations of the hardware at the time. they couldn't really develop an Enemy AI script longer then a line or two. added gfx, controls, bonus zero suit ending. but a classic is still a classic.
Even with the Volume 29 guide and passwords, I couldn't beat this game back in 1991. I only ever got to play it as a rental, and couldn't finish it before I no longer had an NES.
This reminds me of when I would be up late at night waiting for my father to come home from work. I'd either be playing this or Mega Man in the basement bedroom. I never could beat this game until several years later. It was the first Metroid I ever played, but it was the last one that I beat of the original trilogy before the Prime series came along. I don't know what happened to my copy of the original sequel on Gameboy but I don't have any desire to play through that one again.
i was so pleased when i accidently found the hidden energy tank during the Kraid fight; it was something that hadn't even been posted in any of the video game magazines back in the day.
I was borne in 98 and love these games. First thing I ever played was metroid on an nes that wa just lying around in my house. Then I played all the other games in the series. And from that I can say games nowadays are sooooo much easier and I find them really unsatisfying to beat. I thought i&e as so cool to walk into school with my gba and beat metroid fusion, and zero mission in an hour and my friends couldn't do it in a week
You know, this one game Is one of those you might hate, but you would never get tired of playing It. Despite me reaching the ending and all that stuff the hard way, I really hate this Metroid game...
lol I feel you, for me it's the confusion of hidden item's. I love non linear play and secrets but sheesh! Several times Ive played through this game and never found the ice beam, going and fighting Kraid. Basically I got real far but couldnt finish cause I couldnt find key items. It's really a bitch sometimes
First off, this has to be some kind of super universal Captain Planet Diet Coke record!! Second of all, what did I just watch?!? Dude ran around full throttle with beeping health half the time. You know how scare I ALWAYS GOT when I heard that beeping. What do I do with my life now??
Holy ****! I used to play this when I was 13 when it came out I beat mother brain, saw the girl but my freaking God this guy is freaking amazing! I just sat there watched the entire thing with my mouth wide open!!! I am currently emulating right now using a NES ROM, it's the closest thing I got LOL excellent job!!!

I never owned this as a kid didn't beat it until I was older I always thought this was a way harder game than Zelda or even Ninja Gaiden or Castlevania just based on the maze 😂🤣 it's like that movie The Cube 😂
Exactly. If humans had a reaction time fast enough AND were lucky enough, this could be done without tools. It's that the tools makes this about 413% easier.

And yes, I had a difficult time with it. XP

Yeah. Saying it's a TAS in description or video itself but not in the title just feels wrong considering you had to click on the video to even know it is a TAS.
Living in this generation you are talking about pro, I agree. Unfortunately, many Nintendo games have also fallen into that, good examples being Kid Icarus: Uprising and NSMB 2.
What about Samus Aran, then? It turns out, Samus’ name is based on Edison Arantes do Nascimento, the soccer player better known as Pelé, Kiyotake revealed. “Even the name of the protagonist could be put together in this manner, and if I wanted to give someone a strange name, I could refer to Pelé’s name,” he joked.

I can't even get the Missiles without dying once or twice. Starting with only 30 units of energy is not a good thing (until you get the Varia Suit of course).

Hey Samus, did you know your health is low?
You have mastered every aspect of the game.

Dave Bautistaroid Just remember, it's TAS, meaning all the movements are prerecorded (over 77,000 times to be exact) to be perfect.
still even though pre recorded, just the persistence needed to make something like this is still breathtaking

There are two inexcusable problems with this game IMO: not being able to kneel and only being able to shoot left/right and up. Fortunately they fixed those two problems in Super Metroid (SNES), and made a lot of other improvements too, which is way more fun than this game. A D-pad inherently allows 8 directions of control, so there's no excuse for not being able to shoot in all 8 directions.
The same goes for the whip in Castlevania; you can only whip left/right, which is asinine. They fixed that in Super Castlevania IV (which is an awesome game), but then, inexplicably, broke it again in subsequent Castlevania games.
