- Follow along as we bring the 290 back from June Lake into mammoth. The guys at the motocross track needed a big machine for the track prep so we decided to help out. Still seeing a lot of rain hopefully it’s just enough to keep the dust down at the Mammoth Motocross event.
You are correct about how people are on roads and trails. Most of the younger generations have so many things stuck in their ears they tune everything else out. Just wait till the mountain lion or black bear sneaks up from behind.
I call them trail Zombies.
Not just trails of course.
Vid of 7 or 8 young ppl crossing congested 4 lane road in Russia, cars and big trucks going around 45mph, few guys in front are alert and looking in all directions, couple girls in back are head down in their devices, one big rig can't stop, gets sideways as it plows thru stopped cars and across crosswalk. Guys in front sprint entirely clear, middle group just get's clear and two girls in rear get blindsided, IDK if fatals or not...illustrates well the reckless assumption of safety.
You do you and that’s all you can do. You’re providing a great insight on working/living/recreation in and around Mammoth. Taking time out of your day/life, sharing with us the goings on so to speak is awesome. We “All” thank you. Don’t spend any time on the haters! They’re the ones who won’t wave, say hi and cut you off while driving. If they were so good then they’d have their own UA-cam channel! As I sit in 110 degree heat all summer watching your vids, seeing the snow still hanging around, watching you and everyone, including Sadie &Bud, is exactly why I subscribed! Keep up the great work!
My husband and I have noticed that people do not wave back at us as we drive through our neighborhood. We have commented on this very thing!
Starwood is a great house. I don't think any piles of snow on the roof will ever cause troubles.
I am in agreement with you on your comment on people greeting each other. Just a head nod is all that is needed.
Fun video today.
You are right on, Ben! I have been noticing the same thing. It's a sad way to live. Hopefully these self-impoverished soon start to realize this🙋♀️
I smile all the time at people it’s amazing they smile back 😊and I live in Northern California 🍷 country , maybe it the wine 😂
Definitely the wine 😂
Beautiful mega house ! However all the roof angles a snow nightmare collection! oh well there rich and can afford shovels on the roof 😂
So many entitled people that don't care about any body else.I agree. 100% right. GREAT VIDEOS.
I like the way they wrap them trees keep from scar in them all up
Ben I can honestly say my friend to not have what we used to call in the ‘80’s on the baseball field “rabbit ears”. Just do what you do my friend.
Love your videos. Lived in Mam for 10 years. It looks so green everywhere! Yes, it’s a California thing to not be friendly. Where I live, everyone waves and says hi. 👋
Broad generalizations but Leftists have no sense of humor or humanity. Any decent humor has element of truth to it, not hard to see how that doesn't work for them, and humanity is the scourge of Earth they've been indoctrinated to think, a nasty parasite of the biosphere.
It's not that way everywhere but Mammoth is sort of a little LA. Here in Chico, CA, most are quite friendly or at least longer term residents.
In Chico I routinely yield for traffic, hold the door for strangers, etc., and visa versa. Recently went to sushi bar and shoehorned between others, said hello to my right and they smiled and greeted, said hello to my left and they looked at me with a glare: "Who the hell are you?"--their expressions announced, I knew they were from out of town, most likely the Bay Area.
The driving post Covid is gotten crazy everywhere. I always greet people, strangers, etc. Here in Minnesota. It’s probably 50-50 for responses. Smaller towns, much much better.
I sure hope you have all your job sites secure before this storm rolls thru on Sunday and Monday. Even Vegas is forecast to get 5 inches of rain. And it's already pouring in Palm Springs. Stay safe everybody.
Looks like we will be to the west of it… still expecting quite a bit of rain. Hopefully nothing to crazy.
10:00 Hard telling where the critics are chiming in from but one thing that is often overlooked when critiquing the time taken to frame a house is _where it's located._ This is Mammoth -- you're up at 8,000 ft elevation in mostly sloped and rocky terrain, in an _active volcanic and seismic zone._ Just getting permits and inspections or even a plat for a spec home up there is a monumental undertaking, and when these structures have to be built to earthquake standards _on top of_ allowing for geothermal activity underground, the engineering begins to get more and more convoluted.
A house this size meeting quality and environmental standards is no easy task; and that doesn't even account for the current issue of finding subs to do the work + supply chain issues. Homebuilding _everywhere_ is getting extremely difficult and costly for a number of reasons. Those problems multiply in a place like Mammoth, which is hundreds of miles from reliable supply chain infrastructure you can count on on a moment's notice.
Yes, a good engineer can mitigate anything; but there's a cost to that, and when government enforces building code and micro-manages construction at every step, yeah -- things start to slow down a little. There's always the weather to contend with as well, so the best-laid plans often get pushed back or modified.
Let’s also think about a custom home vs tract home. The cookie cutter houses are not exactly going to last very long compared to a custom home.
I built houses way back in the 70s. I do enjoy watching the construction. Before the crane, you would have to had lugged all that lumber down the hill.....
That’s what I told Mike… my dad would have us walking all that plywood down and setting the beams by hand. Crane makes life easier for sure.
It's the "me" generation; Sellfies, it's all about me me me me.
I live in California, I can't help it,, I say HI to everyone , most people are still friendly for the most part.
Ben your thoughts and experience’s are spot on with mine my friend. I’ve been a UPS driver since 1993 in the Central Valley and trained in OilDale BakersBurg haha. I feel you . Vacation now but retired soon. Haha
Mammoth is a different place than say the 80s-maybe 2005 or so. That's when things really changed.
Great jobs you guys !
Great work on you channel growth it exploded.😉
Great opening, very true. So remember a small everyone could use a small. But not all people will show it.
Great commentary about the human condition. I have said the same many times.
I grew up in a small town with Amish people. It was a very unique community zone. The waving thing I always remember that. The Amish wave to everyone. I still do that. I wave or acknowledge lot of strangers out an about. Thanks for sharing.
Same I lived in eastern Montana for some time in my early twenties… everyone waved all the time no matter if they knew you or not.
You are right about people today
I see that all the time…I always acknowledge everyone. Especially in small towns …on trails especially. I always say hellos first! Kindness first. Drivers are jerks these days.
Oh man, unfortunately as you probably know now, the projected path of the Hurricane (tropical storm by getting there) has you guys bullseyed. I hope you folk are prepared. I swear, dig out of record snow and now a tropical record breaking storm. Careful videoing but you should have epic things to get on camera. Godspeed to you folk.
Looks like it’ll go east of us at least the epicenter of it… but who know till it gets here we are waiting for it.
@@plowbrothers365 Yes the European model shoes that but the GSF shows not quite so far. They are probably more predictable out there because we in the East have seen stalls, turnarounds, etc... Hugo, Sept. 1989 came across me in Wilkesboro NC. Don't want hat ever again.
@mammoth mountain life, looks like you are getting ready for the motox race at mammoth - looking forward to it.
Our country is being overtaken by others moving to the country with no manners! I hail from a very small town near the St Lawrence River between the USA and Quebec Canada, we ALL knew each other and were very friendly acknowledging each other whenever we met.
Please IGNORE the naysayers making RUDE COMMENTS! After seeing what you all accomplished last winter you guys are miracle workers!
God Bless and be safe!!!
Wow! Didn’t know the road went that far past the dog park area by the equipment compound. Of course it was snowed over when I was there
You are very fortunate to have all your all purpose workers.
Vey thankful for all of them.
I have said many times how people are way different from when i grew up. Use to be everyone knew their nieghbors, now you don't even get a wave and people are driving way too fast to get to their destinations. On the house your building the roof structure looks very strong & sturdy.
That excavator needs a good power washing. Ha!
If your able to, let us know how your doing during the tropical rain and wind you're getting now.
Best of luck.
Just curious, what was the solution for installing the central air in the house you are framing. A few videos back you had an expert in to figure out how to get around some beams.
About friendly interacting with strangers, Mathew 24:12..."And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold". It's happening, slow but sure.
Hey Ben, at 24:24 the view of mammoth mountain shows the mammoth elephant. I don’t think I have heard you describe it.
Everyone is correct in their comments I agree.
But it has been told to us that this would happen in 2 Timothy 3:1-10. It has arrived.
Love your channel Ben. I’m from your generation and still practice courtesy and kindness.
Jesus is the way.
There's indeed a vibe in California and it seems worse the closer you get to the coast. Some of that may be a complete lack of trust; in CA's current state you don't know who to trust so you wind up trusting no one. But regardless of where it is, if everybody's out for themselves and won't engage socially, whatever energy you're putting out is typically what you get back.
I CAN tell you from my experience that I get a much more laid-back vibe in eastern CA than on the coast or in SoCal. The small-town atmosphere is prevalent up and down Owens Valley; Mammoth is hit-or-miss and that's primarily because if you hit Mammoth on a weekend when all the stressed-out people from L.A. are up for a little "relaxation," they take their week's worth of bad karma with them and it kills the positive vibe.
All in all, though, it's a product of the times in which we're living. Social media has quickly turned into ANTIsocial media, politics infects literally _everything,_ and you're constantly looking over your shoulder for the next asshole or criminal. That's not a CA thing, it's an _everywhere_ thing -- and somehow the fever's gotta break, coz if it doesn't the cancer is eventually gonna kill us.
Spot on !
Entitlement maybe 🤔
gee. GEEE Philosophing
Telling the truth
They should be putting god back in there life’s
Love all the projects. Do the houses up there in the mountains need AC systems?
Some do some don’t it’s preference… we do not have AC at home. Just open up the windows.
Waco Texas is still pretty friendly.
Not a small town but not huge either.
You can drive around and not hear a horn blow for weeks at a time.
It’s weird but I think they consider it rude.
🤣🤣🤣
Say hi to Mike C. From the Mammoth motocross
nice video.i liked what you said about waving at people on the road. i try to wave at everyone will driving.when i was married my wife used to say why did you wave at her,who is she?
🤣
If it's not done by Christmas it will be done by the Fourth of July. I worry about how long it will stay up, not how fast it goes up.
Ben, you are right about just having common courtesy on the road. I drive in different areas of SoCal for my job. The degree of courtesy or lack thereof is very regional. In L.A., every man for themselves and be careful of the wackos. Orange county, the privileged Karens and Brandons are the norm. Now San Diego..they are different. I have literally come to a 4 way stop at the same time as someone else...I will wave them through, then they will wave me through. This will go back and forth for 2 or 3 times and finally I will go. Very laid back crowd down there in the SD area. It's probably a combination of the military discipline or the surfer vibe. Or just the fact that they have the best weather in the world.
4:35 Black tailed mulies it looks like.
wouldn’t hurt if you clean out around tracks. Also.
be nice if you told us direction your going. And name of mountains.
Snide comment on length of time to frame--he probably has never seen a custom $1M(ish?) build done at 8k alt in Sierras where half the yr is buried in snow either.
Ya it’s tough we see homes takes 3yr plus to build on a regular basis. Mountain time hits different.
Yah that is sad people act that way! Mostly City folks!
a lot of black mold on the plywood after 2 years of framing
@ 3:00 Truth
Its a custom house.
In my opinion our excessive involvement with social media has led to people not knowing how to interact “directly” in public, in the work place or on the road. Never is one required to “yield” to anyone, never have to consider or respect others, cooperate or tolerate, or be polite, you just “click them away”.
Does Cal-OSHA ever visit? It seems to me that any persons working under/around a crane are required to wear hardhats. (Cal Bldg. Code.) At least that has been my experience. Almost got fined once for being on a roof, (4 stories), and I had just removed my HH due to sweat running into my eyes. The inspector was slightly anal. Also if over 16 ft, supposed to tie-off. We did anyway while working on a commercial skylight.
Regarding the build time comment. 20 feet of snow didn’t help anybody in the business of building.
too much hope and not enough mainteance
cell phone society...
Ben, it's the CA mentality that makes everyone like that. Dog eat dog. Everyone is in a hurry to go nowhere. I left long ago bcuz of the mentality and rudeness. People in CA are just plain selfish and it's all about them.
About the 290 pin breaking all the time, let it float and don't weld it solid. Put a flange washer plate with a hole in it to weld on end of pin but let it rotate. It's breaking bcuz you're welding it solid. It needs to spin and float a little side to side.
The not acknowledging each other I think is an LA thing or maybe a California thing. Might be from lackadaisical parenting. I think the parents from the WW2 era like I had taught us kids the right things in life.
Yep. Self centered. Unkind. Until they want something.
People are judgemental these days. Just like the van that you saw during the winter time with all the writing on it, just saying.
Mammoth is not a friendly town....
Depends I would say… lots of great people here. But there’s two sides of every story.
I think what your trying to say is people suck ! Small town out of ca. are way more friendly. I’m surprised my neighbor/ hillside here in the ca. desert most people wave when u pass them on the road . Yes it’s sad that people can’t even take being nice . People aren’t very friendly in ca …..
