@@MountainManMagic Heads up, I took your advice and picked Riveteers and went blitz agro. Your advice really helped and this was one of the first paper sealed I've been to that I didn't get to play on arena first. Thank you! "When in doubt, Jund them out!"
I had to make a choice before I got home and saw this video. I was debating between your top two picks and picked your top pick and am baffled. It just shows my skill at the game theory of this game. That’s awesome!
Just played in my first pre-release since Covid! Had a blast, and built an angel central deck with Giana. 10 games and I never drew her once, meanwhile 2 separate opponents got a turn 3 ob nixilis out every game. But it turns out just playing flyers with decent interaction does pretty well, went 3-1 and I made lots of mistakes to learn from!
I love (hate) when you have that fun card but never get to play it. Way to overcome your opponents having better luck though and glad the flyers put in work for ya!
Just back from my Pre-Release! Went 3-5 with a cabareti deck themed around stimulus package, no fancy pulls however. I won a set booster and pulled a foil vivien. Still a great time and a great video!
I really want to play the cabaretti family, the „creature enters the battlefield“ seems like a fun way to win because you get so much value from playing creatures and i never saw controldecks in limited… so that will be my choice tonight
Hey! With sealed and prerelease being my absolute favorite ways to play magic, this is possibly the best video for me! thank you for making it. it was great!
Just finished 1st place in my prerelease earlier today running Obscura with Elspeth and Evelyn rounding out the deck with my handful of common rarity interaction/evasion. I normally just quickly jam articles the day before but having your video a day early on a time crunch was for sure of help. Thanks for the helpful guide.
With all the treasure and value in this set, I think Green and Red are the best colors in this set. Riveteers and Cabaretti are my bet for the most powerful of the three families in the set.
Definitely agree with ya - but didn't want my top choices to both focus on the treasure line, because in case your packs are unlucky I like Obscura's backup plan of just needing flyers. Treasures seem so OP in this set, especially in sealed, so we'll have to see how it all shakes out. Definitely excited to try and make some Jund sac/treasure shenanigans happen!
@@MountainManMagic Oh I totally understand. But seriously, on most of my practice draft/sealed I have had to really try to not play green/red. I find the blue white/black flyers archetype a little awkward just because of the cards that require you to have counters on stuff. Even with connive and shield counters it feels a little off My last pick of what to play would be maestros. Good stuff but not enough pressure/gas in my opinion.
@@ryanhenderson225 maestros would definitely be my weakest as well. Was gonna bash em a bit on the review but figured I’d stay positive lol. Too much set up with too little payoff

Just started to watch the LRR Preprerelease game play to see how the mechanics all work out & sneak peak of families & splashes. Your guide is spot on with a majority of what I've seen so far. 👌
Doing the prerelease tonight, I pregistered for Maestros, I hope I don't regret it. This primer was super helpful, especially since I haven't played a prerelease since 2020! Thank you!
Great video!!! Wanted Maestro drew Obscura. Got to trade to Maestro!. No mythics but decent pulls. Went Maestro colors. 2 draws and 1 win taking 4th place. From promo pack pulled Promo Meathook!!! So all in all a good Tournament.
NICE. This is going to be my first paper pre-release ever and first time playing at a store... I've been into Magic since 1994....so this is quite a milestone lol
Amazing video! I'm gonna be attending my first ever prerelease today and i'm so exited, i think i'll be playing Cabaretti since i love the cards and having a lot of creatures on the board seems like great fun.
Forgot to share favorites so enjoy a bonus comment. I dig the Riveteers line but it doesn't come naturally to me so I'd probably muck it up. Obscura looks enticing and I'll probably go with them or Maestros. I could definitely go Brokers because I'll run a wall deck any day but the go wide Cabaretti is always fun too. So... I can't decide. I'll watch again and maybe that will help me. 😂 Maybe I should get a couple and play them both?
Went 2-0 (2-0 2x of the Bo3 sets too) with Riveteers, (had to leave early) but double opened ognis and had a jaxis, my short impression is blitz is very good. Plasma jockey and rivet decoy are very good for pushing a lot of damage in. Also while the riveteers charm basiclly has a dead mode the 2x in my deck carried my game with most the time it being a soul shatter (even killed a t4 Reservoir octopus with it dodging the ward) and draw 3 at instant speed for late game damage push is very good. Being able to blitz from exile is also fantastic 👌.
That's awesome - sorry ya had to leave early, but seems like you had a great time and a sweet card pool! Good to know on the Blitz front that it felt strong.
Great guide, especially since I didn’t pay much attention to spoilers. Would have loved to see you rank all 5 families, but was happy to see your top picks. Only ordered 2 prerelease kits, but may need to pick up one for each family to try them all out.
I'd rank the families as: Riveteers Obscura Cabaretti Brokers Maestros Would be happy with any kit, because that means I'm about to play some sealed, but Maestros seem like the clear bottom family to me - at least for sealed. Hard to pull off all they need to have a successful gameplan. Although that kit could just have the right mix of cards to roll through most people...so you never really can know!
Your guides are always great man. Kinda surprised allaince wasn't your top pick with how many prerelease decks tend to be creature heavy. My pick is bant because I like the style and I think shield counters will be decent in limited.
Cabaretti was initially my top, and I have it at number 3 with them veerrrry close to my other top 2. Honestly I think all the other families are solidly in front of the Maestros, who seem to have the hardest path to successfully executing their gameplan. I’d be happy with any kit, but theirs would be my last choice.
I'm also a sucker for the sacrifice synergies - but I'd be very happy with Cabaretti as well I think Maestros still look like the toughest to pull off for me, and Riveteers/Obscura/Cabaretti would all be in my favorite options category.

5 color soup is always a side challenge - and I think fairs well in this set. Sadly there doesn’t feel like a fun challenge like with Shrines. So ya know what just making one up - activate one of each of the new mechanics in a game. That’d be a fun side quest lol I realized I forgot that bit in the video, but had been crazy sick with food poisoning the last 5 days so barely got this thing out on Monday. Appreciate you checking in though and let me know if you come up with one yourself and good luck dude!
Unfortunately not for this set - I am on vacation, and while I did buy a laptop to be able to make this prerelease guide, it was a lot of work and frustration trying to get it together just using my phone and a laptop I'm not used to editing on. For what it's worth I'd brush up on the "each opponent" and "each player" effects that are on some cards. Easy to do if you go to scryfall.com and then search: set:SNC o:"each opponent" My gut reaction is evasion will be SUPER important as will removal. If I had to pick 2 kits to go with it'd be Maestros and Riveteers. Honestly, any 2 would do well, but ideally you can play the color pairs that give you access to all your bombs and hopefully you pull enough removal that both players can have some interaction along with their ways to win. If all bombs are in 2 colors or one family, then let that person do all the damage, and the other play focus on supporting that gameplan however you can,. I'd focus on getting those packs opened/organized and then you and your partner work out which color pairs you both will be. Both build your decks separately - and then the final 7-10 minutes, look over each other's so you can make sure you're both playing the best cards/most "each opponent" type cards you can.

Oh man, seeded packs... 😕 Poop. Oh well. This set looks real good for Commander but it also seems rather... odd. Not bad... just odd. Some of the cards are a bit of a mystery to me (as in they either look bad on the surface or confusing for lack of a better word; I'm probably not seeing the value in some cards just yet and need more time to evaluate). Anyway, it should be an interesting prerelease. I'm glad Devils got some love. I've been dying for the Devil tribe to expand and get stronger for awhile now, so good job on that, WotC. White also looks like it got major card draw help too. Yay! But seeded packs? Seeded packs?! Damneth thee, WotC. 😔 Poop.
Why the sadness for seeded packs? I guess it does take the mystery out, but as long as it’s not the norm I can enjoy the fact that people (often) now can play what they want…hopefully? Does take away from the chaos of just jumping in though, which I’m with you on and also prefer.
I played jund. Didn’t have a great pool bc my uncommons were just not synergistic and no good removal. Obscura followed by Brokers have been dominating all the events I’ve been to. They’re so powerful, specifically the blue white fliers portion.

Poop.
Why the sadness for seeded packs? I guess it does take the mystery out, but as long as it’s not the norm I can enjoy the fact that people (often) now can play what they want…hopefully?
Does take away from the chaos of just jumping in though, which I’m with you on and also prefer.
good video
fucking excellent

Thank you! #mtgcapenna
You bet and good luck dude!
I played jund. Didn’t have a great pool bc my uncommons were just not synergistic and no good removal. Obscura followed by Brokers have been dominating all the events I’ve been to. They’re so powerful, specifically the blue white fliers portion.
Fish! not fishes.
Fishi I believe is the most correct?
