Pawel definitely should have been charging until 65%. Also, I think he should have been leaving the car off while charging. The moment you turn the Bolt EV/Ampera-E on while DC charging, the battery conditioning will come on (even if it wasn't on before), which will slow your charge rate by at least 4-5 kW.
Totally right, other point Pavel first stop at 25% SOC can make it to next stop because he use 55% to 30%, the exact amount he have when he first stop 25%. At this point he will easily win because he will gain time and have 45-50 minute to charge from 0% to 55% at full speed. And can charge up to 69% before you rejoin him in this place. With more Bolt driving under his belt he will definetly win that race.
Wow that charger noise at 20:07 is crazy for the ears. EDIT: Did hold my smartphone with frequency analyzer app to my headphones, it is a peak at 10.5 kHz!
Nice video! Thanks! One comment that has been probably said before, if one drives on long ranges on roads up and down it is best to keep the regen to 0. It helps to get more km.
Excellent video Bjorn! as usual very informative, but also entertaining, lots of data about Norway and the cars. Only whould have hope that pavel would give us more data on his car and trip. Guest will have to wait for his cut version of the video!
He did but it was hidden in the live stream. Unfortunately, he's a bit new when it comes to shooting video and he forgot that because he was also live streaming at the same time.
Sorry, Instead of SOC I actualy meant starting with the same amount of kWh in the battery and finish with the same amount of kWh in the battery. Now the Ampera had more kWh's to consume, wich didn't cost any time. So the Ampera had an advantage on the Ioniq. But maybee its to dificult to organise.
How is the waterproofing on EVs in case of flooded roads? Upto how many inches of water can these EVs wade through without water entering the inside of the car or damaging the batteries .
I can't say from experience, but in my old 2008 Prius, I drove it through a flooded parking lot with water up to the door sills with no trouble at all. I doubt you'd have any in these either. They're very well engineered cars. You'd probably run into trouble with an ICE car before an EV honestly.
I know it's finished, but I can't see the live streams due to my scheduel, Will it be there a "Fast & Furious" kind of finish? Especially if you managed to get close to him near Oslo. I'm hopping that there is one!
but for hiway is better to have inertia, and the Ioniq have an incredible inertia; just try it, if you go up to 110Km/h with no regen levels you feel the car just go and go easely, and if you apply regen3 even when you are accelerating the car it can feels the force against movement; I've done all test with regen1, 2 and 3 and cero, best result in hiways is with regen0
well, everybody can learn new things from others, no one is king in this, I been with EVs for about 15 years now, so I talk only for experience, I own an Ioniq too and made my test in very different conditions, and is better to make a combination of regen depends on the condition of the road
Pawel should have charged to 60% or 70%, I think he stopped charging early because he was too focused on the time aspect of the race. He should have followed the "slow and steady wins the race" principle and stayed charging longer so he would be able to skip a charging stop.
Something is wrong with this ioniq. When we drive with the family ours consumes 12 to 12.5 khw per 100km. If i drive alone it gets sub 11. Why is bjorn over 14. I also use AC and refer to highway speeds. Maybe its the wheel pressure or something, i keep mine at 3.5 bars.
In a video game sense, the Ioniq is like the SMG - small magazine size but small, efficient & lightweight makes it easy to reload. Pawel's Ampera-E/Bolt is kind of like a Machine Gun - huge magazine reserves but it is not as efficient & is cumbersome makes it hard to reload. Very close race. I still think the Bolt/Ampera-E is the better car, but Bjorn's EV driving skills should be the deciding factor.
Trades46 yeah, I'm thinking the next round they swap cars to see how much is the driver vs the car. Plus you know these guys love driving their EVs like crazy anyway! 😉
It was such fun to watch both livestreams! Thank you! :-)
I totally agree :)
Excellent to see you racing with the Ioniq again Bjorn. Thanks. Can't wait for them to arrive in Australia.
lets hope they do. at first i heard that they were not bringing in the full electric ..
Brilliant live stream, can’t wait for part 2. Well done you two 👏🏻

You guys are doing amazing job 4 EV community everywhere!

Moto Z Play true, but i wouldnt drive a fossil in N 😁
Yay!! Finally. Been waiting for this :)

Oh! No worries then. Anyways awesome job both of you. Can't wait for part 2!
Hey everyone has to learn somehow. This is really awesome! Thank you to everyone involved for making videos like these happen!
Good waited so long for this :)
Bjorn the king of ev cars. Another awesome video. Thank you.
Thank you for your awesome videos
Great concept
very interesting and informative
Anyone have any opinions regarding the Hyundai Ioniq EV getting a bigger battery? Like the 38,3 kWh capacity the rumors are mentioning?
It was an epic race, but for the future you maybee should start and end the race with the same SOC.
It was already. Both cars started with 99 % and ended near 0 %.

Ioniq had lower consumption and charged faster. That was the whole point of the race.
Yes thats my point, the Ioniq would have won more time, the downside is that it gives a less exciting race.
Are those pole constructions crossing the street, e.g. at 3:21, holding cameras? What's their purpose? Road charge?
+Gerd Bremer Automated toll roads.
40kwh leaf vs 30kwh leaf next

the Jaguar I Pace is rated to half a meter.
Have a look at this: ua-cam.com/video/t58Hjgj0uZo/v-deo.html
24:55 - Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Bel Air (?), and a Dodge Challenger - some kind of muscle car rally? :)
And a vintage corvette at 18:50
When is the next episode Bjórn?
Coming in two Hyundai weeks.
I know it's finished, but I can't see the live streams due to my scheduel, Will it be there a "Fast & Furious" kind of finish? Especially if you managed to get close to him near Oslo. I'm hopping that there is one!
first mistake with the Ioniq, you are driving hiway with regen3, the Ioniq is more eficient in hiway with regen0, will give you about 235Kms
It depends. Regen 3 is better than using friction brakes.

Since the Ioniq EV won versus the Ampera-E, how about Optimus versus the Ioniq EV?
How long was the track? Real cool Race! I`m Ioniq driver.
What app are you using to track each other ?
Glympse.
Did he *hammer* it? :-D
Where's Jørgen? 🤨
Home I guess?
I thought Jørgen will race against you :|
Lots of news you miss out because you're not watching the live streams!
Can anyone tell me what's the app Bjorn using for navigation sharing?
+Namina Jayasinghe Glympse
Bjørn Nyland thank you!!
Next up: A race between a classic model S 60 and an Ioniq?
Something is wrong with this ioniq. When we drive with the family ours consumes 12 to 12.5 khw per 100km. If i drive alone it gets sub 11. Why is bjorn over 14. I also use AC and refer to highway speeds. Maybe its the wheel pressure or something, i keep mine at 3.5 bars.
Watch part 2.
Björn uses ACC a lot. I think it eats some % kWh.
Driver only !
Pawel is from Poland??
Yes, Gdańsk.
Mówiłem już, żeby Bjorn wybrał się kiedyś do Polski, bo jeździ po całej Europie tylko nie po Polsce :) Bjorn i said that you should come to Poland :)

On no! You didnt even use "Driver only" for climate control!
I think you are doing your tests in a wrong way. You should start the race with same range in both cars. Not with 100 percent in both cars...
Didn't watch the video yet. But for my part I would have preferred a shorter ~20min single part version.
Play at 1.5x speed then. Works for LOTR too.
