In 1990 for the Gulf War I was issued a pattern of body armour which had hinged shoulder pads and brass hooks to locate the belt. The vest of course interfered with the normal arrangement of pouches and straps. The solution was to extend every adjustment and wear the '82 over the vest, clipping and velcro'ing the closures into place. It was handier than putting on the vest then the webbing, and everything was still in position. The problem of course was the whole upper body assembly weighed about 35-lbs all bombed up.
Very nice video, only thing I would "complain" about is the middle drawstrings on the jacket. They should be tucked inside of it instead of being left outside handing. What I do with mine is tuck the left string through the button hole & the right one under the button itself. then just simply tie it and tuck it in and it should be fine.
When I was in the CAF we didnt "cross draw" the bayonet. We used our left hand, twisted the bayonet upside down, yanked it down & out with a quick pull & then attached it to the C1 clasped between our knees held by our right hand
Exactly the same way we were taught to draw our bayonets in the Guards Depot Pirbright in 1974. When I came to Canada and joined the reserves (TA) they gave me prior service credit and promoted me to Cpl. my UK training was pretty similar to the Canadian forces with some slight modifications. 💂♂️🪖⛑️🏴🇨🇦
Can't wait to see more of this gear. I really like this and the British P58 webbing. Being American it's nice to see what our allies were using while we had our Alice gear.
1- that tab might be quick to release but it was not quick to reclose in the winter with gloves on and impossible with mits
2- the hocks war down over time and eventually were just studs that would let the hole thing fall apart
3-I never used it without the 2 mag pouches , mess tin carrier ( with rain gear in that ) , small pack , KFS small pack ( aka but pack which was the best part of the hole system ) , bayonet frog , canteen carrier+ canteen , canteen cup + burner ring with a pill bottle of water purification tablets gun taped to it , the other mag pouch and usualy had a shell dressing on one shoulder and a compass carrier on the other along with pace beads
4-I never had nor did I see people with the entrenching tool carrier , we hung them from loops of paracord
* we never used the SMG mag pouch or moved the pouches around and never put anything on the yoke back as we were always putting on or taking off ruck sacks
* the gas mask carrier was never attached to the webbing , ever
Too bad the video doesn’t convey the absolutely horrendous smell that surplus 82 pattern seems to always come with

Mine never did, but a couple of my ground sheets did. That was from the urethane coating on the inside.
The urethane coating on the the inside of my water bottle carrier broke down very quickly and glued my cup in.
The water bottle carrier was always just a fraction too small. Trying to get the cup out was an exercise on its own.

While the 82 pattern was an improvement over the 64 pattern, it had some problems. The metal eyelets on the belt would often pop off when removing the plastic tabs on the pouches. The pouch material would wear down fairly quickly and inside the pouches fraying was a big problem. We never used fighting order, I guess it was battle order we used, with the buttpack. The utility pouch had the aluminum mess tins which we were told not to use for health reasons. Inside the tins we stuffed our rain gear. On left shoulder we continued to attach a field dressing as we did on the 64 pattern shoulder straps. With the 64 pattern we used old Bren gun pouches for magazines, never ever used the pockets on our combat coats for carrying mags. Overall the 82 pattern had some good ideas but was cheaply produced, just like the 64 pattern lol...
Mess tins are long gone by the time WE82 comes around. Most troops that I saw didn't bother with the utility pouch. The butt pack was almost always worn in lieu of. SMG and C2 pouches all came out simultaneously. Many troops cut the pull straps out. They were great for getting the mags out, but a real pain trying to put them back in.
I was issued the mess tins when I joined up in late '95. I was told not to use them as the aluminum would give me the Alzheimer's but that we still had to have them as they were still on the scale of issue...got to keep them when I released.

As a Canadian Army veteran from 1992-1998! I never saw an E-tool! Ever! Not even Infantry! The bayonet wasn't a "cross draw" fixing bayonet is done with the left hand with the rifle held vertically in the right hand! The butt pack was normally always used by all combat arms and the NBC mask was always attached to the belt. The utility pouch was only used by c-9 gunners as the mess tins where gone by the '90's! (something about aluminium poisoning)
I added a 56 Pattern ammo pouch to mine and was pretty comfortable!
12.51.. when I was actually using this webbing ( pre-British PLCE 1993-94?) I always managed to sit a 58 pattern Black water bottle mug inside on the top of the CF water bottle. It was a tight fit, but I did not get my lips burned on the metal cup. 💂♂️🪖⛑️🏴🇨🇦

The only thing I found the manual was good for is a mini check list of the parts needed. Even though it does not show all the pieces for the 1982 pattern webbing. which if anyone knows any other pieces, let me know.
Fun fact… National Defence spent a buttload of money to change all the pamphlets so that English was in one column and French was in the other column on each page. This was tricky as the French translation was longer and placing illustrations in the right places was difficult.
The reason for this change was that nearly everyone would rip the book in half and throw out the French side (even Francophones a lot of the time). For the more technical documentation, English was the international standard and the Canadian French translation included meaningless technical terms.
Does anyone have the urge to translate what was just said into French and place it under this?
I never actually saw the C2 pouches in use, the C2 Bra was still in common use until the C9 entered service.

Great video. It's heavy duty kit. To bad, it was designed. For people 5' 10" and taller. If you wear it all. Backpack etc. Cheers 🍻
you had to string the web belt through the ruck frame and than put on the pouches as needed.

Off topic but a genuine question...i was watching a tv programe tonight called "Russias toughest prisions" and the guards are wearing camo uniforms that are British dpm but its an urban scheme..while it still has black in it the green,brown and sand colours are replaced by various shades of grey...does anyone have any info on this "urban" variant of dpm?
I found this on "camopedia" - "A copy of British DPM pattern has also been produced commercially, but worn by some MVD Interior Troops as well as the FSB (Federal Security Service). The pattern is known colloquially as Смог (Smog,) or Кукла (kukla) (doll) pattern, and there are a number of variations based on the manufacturer and type of fabric."
