Did you guys go into town and see the actual mile zero sign post? Where you took the pictures is actually several blocks away from the real start. I have a picture of my Dad standing beside it from the early 70's. I am enjoying your trip, its bringing back memories of driving those same highways as a truck driver Back in the 90's. Spectacular scenery!!
I’m feeling like I should have waited until your final Alaska trip video has been released and then binge watched the entire series because I’m impatient. Safe travels❣️

We had our windscreen broken in Australia when a road train passed us. The whole thing came in on us ...we drove about 1000 kms like that before getting it fixed in Darwin....😂😂
10000% We actually are in Alaska now and my big takeaway from the Alcan is that I bet the majority of problems people experience now days could simply be avoided by slowing down. -J
I’m so psyched to follow you guys (and Craig and Victoria) through this trip! Thanks as always for another great video! By the way, you said if you just drive you can probably do the AlCan in 4-5 days. My first base was Eielson AFB near Fairbanks Alaska. When I PCS’d down to New Mexico I drove down the AlCan into Great Falls Montana in a severely overloaded Saturn SL2….lol. Very cramped, but I made it in 2 extremely long days. Started out in blizzard conditions. Good luck!
That’s making some serious tracks! Nice work! I drove to FL from NY a couple of times straight through (20-24 hours) but that’s highway miles not 2 lane roads that at 70mph could make you go airborne. 😂😂 -J
@@OpenRoading I hear that! Those I95 miles are a different kind of frustrating with traffic. I used to make a straight shot from NM to FL back in my early 20s, about 36 hours, but those highways were a little better than 95 traffic wise. Last time I tried to drive through the night though I realized those are things that belong back in my 20s…lol. These days I drive 8 or 9 hours and I’m ready to recharge.
haha! Yes. I would never do that drive by choice today. If you do ever have to make it (and you're not going to NYC but somewhere in upstate) I recommend (Heading N from FL) 95 - 26 - 77 - 81 Sometimes 26 is rough, and going through Charlotte can be tricky, but usually pretty clear sailing otherwise! -J
A wonderful adventure that will always be with you. Try not to worry much about the money. You two are pretty good planners. I'll pray no unexpected major issue arise. Enjoy yourselves! Looking forward to the next leg.
No major worries. More of a challenge to see if we can stay under it. It's so nice to have the fuel and such taken care of out of that budget to give our living expenses budge room to breathe over the summer! -J

Hi guys, I just watched your last Alaska video, I am so happy you made it there and I was in awe of the scenery on the highway you shared, it was an awesome video. I bet it was even more incredible actually experiencing it first hand. It certainly inspired me to go back to Alaska again and I am planning a trip for next year now with my bestie from my years on Cruise ships that's where we met in Alaska and worked for 5 years together. Have the best time ever, stay safe. 😊💖

When we went in 2018 we drove a 35 year old Toyota Itasca. It was slow and steady with no breakdowns. The Provencal parks in the Yukon were $12. No hookups but a campground water pump. Have fun, dont stress and Liard Springs is fantastic.
Now stress here! Ok... just a little as we try to make sure we film and make time to enjoy some camera free time too. There's just so much to try to do in one summer! It's a good problem to have. -J
It is sweet to see Texas dog Trinity (named after the nuclear bomb location?) and her new best friends going to Alaska to see the biggest mosquitos she will ever see. Hope the drive is fun, stay safe and healthy. I had a girl friend years ago that lived on the other side of a large swamp, my dad had worked building the roads and he said they sank a lot of trees into the swamp to make a base to start building the road. The road went like a roller coaster up and down all long it. I hope the roads are not to bad for you guys and even if you pull over for semi trucks you can still get a rock into the windshield. The rocks come off their tires.
Stay tuned next week for windshield updates. 😂 As to Trinity we were working at an oil rig site run by a company called "Trinity" when she came into our lives...Good thing it wasn't a Haliburton site. 😂 -J
@@OpenRoading I don't remember that from the video, but my memory is not what it once was. She could have been Hali if it was Haliburton. I get the humor though. I hope Alaska is going well.

I have a brother in Palmer and brother in Wasilla it's a different life up there yes stay away from big rigs the people up their power down and drive fast they drive hard but they know the roads I think a lot of them do it safely in their own ways but you know with all the tourists the locals not all of them but some get resentful unfortunately in a certain way so just be safe you both are so outrageously funny and I just I love I absolutely love and look forward to your uploads every week thank you so much❤

I am so excited to think I may soon be getting a postcard from y’all. I admit I am starting to struck! lol Joe, you know I told you I’m a mother hen. So I gotta say this, maybe you should have your tires at least aligned. Unless things have changed, a new tire means you need that done and perhaps a tire rotation. Bad tire wear is usually because the camber, or toe, or caster is off. Dad was a mechanic and I worked at the garage to help him, it was a tiny town and if a farmer broke down in the field Dad went out to get them going. So I’d have to go over there and at least pump gas. I did get to work on our vehicles, patch tires, and loved running the car up on the hoist and doing an oil change and lube job (I’m dating myself when I say that!). I’m an old lady and this was 50+ years ago. Okay, mother nagging done! lol So excited… So thrilled for you to be experiencing this. If I was your age I’d be doing it in a heartbeat I think. When I was your age it wasn’t possible. Working from home was pretty new for our company but I was in InfoTech and could do it occasionally. So cool one can live anywhere and work. Praying travel mercies for you and the rest of the mini caravan.
Thanks for the info! I really do appreciate it along with your concern! So our plan on the tires has been this: New Shocks ✅ New Hubs, Brakes & Bearings (Was supposed to get done before we got to Canada but there was a mix up so it got delayed but is happening soon). Then getting the Axels looked at to see if anything is bent Generally, we were tackling a bunch of projects that needed to be done from least expensive to most expensive. Getting it into a shop is always difficult because....it's our house. So it upheaves life quite a bit, especially if it's for more than a day.
I can only imagine. Too bad you can’t get a mechanic to bring all the equipment to you. There’s always something. I chuckle as I read over what I said. Oh my! I sound just like Dad. He was so adamant that I do everything just right. Drove me absolutely bonkers. So what happened? I turned into him!!! lol You two are so much fun to watch. As soon as I get the notification I drop what I’m doing!!!

Funny that we we giving our little dog a bath whole watching your video about Trinity getting a bath. It must have felt great to have hookups for a while! We're happy you are starting the trip with the new tire! It's going to be a great time! 👍 😀
Excited to follow this adventure! Should have some incredible views and see some amazing wildlife!
Hoping for as much wildlife (from a safe distance) as possible! -J
We drove by the Peyto lake sign several times while we were up there and never thought twice. I can't believe we missed that. Bummer.
It’s ok! We all drive past stuff every day that we have no clue what’s really down that road! -J
We did not....but I'm still counting it! 😂 -J
If you are coming down kind of the same way let me know and I can point out a few Boondocking in the Kooteney’s
Good to know! I think we're planning on taking the Cassier back? -J
Loved this! You guys are so inspiring.
Really looking forward to this series!
Awesome! Thanks for coming along!! -J
We’re about half way through our Alaska trip. Presently in Valdez. It’s been amazing! We stayed at Mile 0 also!
Nice! We'll be there early next week. -J
Just arrived in Valdez.....Kalyn may have to convince me to leave. This place is BEAUTIFUL! -J
Thanks!
Thanks so much for your kind generosity! 🤗 I don't think I will ever get used to people valuing our videos in this way. 💜 -J
@@OpenRoading your welcome continue living the dream
I’m feeling like I should have waited until your final Alaska trip video has been released and then binge watched the entire series because I’m impatient. Safe travels❣️
😂 We're bringing old style TV back where you have to watch at a specific time each week. But at least we leave it up so if you need to grab a snack you don't have to beat the commercials. 😂😂 -J
We had our windscreen broken in Australia when a road train passed us. The whole thing came in on us ...we drove about 1000 kms like that before getting it fixed in Darwin....😂😂
Yikes!!! That had to be intense! -J
Our friends go every year and said just to slow down and go as far right as you can when a trucker is coming at you to avoid gravel getting thrown.
If you do ever have to make it (and you're not going to NYC but somewhere in upstate)
I recommend (Heading N from FL) 95 - 26 - 77 - 81
Sometimes 26 is rough, and going through Charlotte can be tricky, but usually pretty clear sailing otherwise! -J
I hope you went to the original mile 0 in Dawson
Uh oh! I'm guessing we didn't!
@@OpenRoading safe travels.
Hi , let the fun times roll on.
Other great video thanks
Was in fits of laughter, when Kalyn was asking about what bothered the workers most doing the road, l thought you said BUGS 🤦 when it was bogs. Safe travels to you both, keeping it real .
Love from a big Aussie fan 🧡❤️
LOL! Wait... I said Bears! Or did I say bogs later? I forget! Either way - I get the accent mix ups! I had an Aussie cut my hair in Canada and I really had to concentrate but I LOOOOVED his accent. -J
Love the video! Favourite was Alaska Highway fun facts! Graphics was great! 🥰
Awesome! I'm so glad you liked our Corny game show graphics! 😂 Our aim was a smile! -J
Good job on this video-very entertaining!!
So glad you enjoyed it! -J
Looking to buy a C class... discovered your channel a week back.. I LOVE you guys!! Keep up the great work!
Oh that is soooo cool. When it happens please snap a photo and send it our way. I know it's a year away but just to be a small part of that would be incredible. 🤗
Thanks so much for coming along for the ride! -J
I'm so excited to continue to watch your journey to Alaska 8 weeks ago I was in Florida 4 weeks ago as in Alaska Polar opposites I live in Oregon hopefully I'll be moving to Idaho soon because I can't handle Oregon Washington or California anymore I really enjoy following along with you both you both are very hard-working people I love that you love your animals and I love being able to follow people to have relationship with the Lord Jesus. We need more of that and I really appreciate that you talked about it and live your lives in such a beautiful way❤
Idaho is beautiful!! It's a good choice!! Thank you so much for the kind encouragement. -J
We are right behind you. Just crossing into Canada from Idaho now. From So Cal.
Nice! We're a little ahead of this video (Left Dawson Creek on June 9th) but we're going to be pausing in a few places so it wouldn't surprise me if you catch us!
FYI We're more real time on Instagram since less editing time is involved. 😂 -J
As to Trinity we were working at an oil rig site run by a company called "Trinity" when she came into our lives...Good thing it wasn't a Haliburton site. 😂 -J
@@OpenRoading I don't remember that from the video, but my memory is not what it once was. She could have been Hali if it was Haliburton. I get the humor though. I hope Alaska is going well.
I don't remember if we said where we got the name from. The company we were working for at the time was "Guard 1" so I'm not sure if we ever said the name of the oil company. -J
No desire to visit Alaska but will be fun watching you all enjoy. Safe travels 🙏
This is the way to do it then! No expenses, you get to sleep in your own bed, and no long travel days! 😁 Thanks for coming along!! -J
I have a brother in Palmer and brother in Wasilla it's a different life up there yes stay away from big rigs the people up their power down and drive fast they drive hard but they know the roads I think a lot of them do it safely in their own ways but you know with all the tourists the locals not all of them but some get resentful unfortunately in a certain way so just be safe you both are so outrageously funny and I just I love I absolutely love and look forward to your uploads every week thank you so much❤
Will do! Yeah, we lived in a tourist area in Florida and it's normal for locals to get annoyed at the tourists. But they'd be looking for work if the tourists never came...so it's a give and take. 🙂 -J
Fantastic video as always! I had a great time laughing with you all. I agree with Kaylin about see thru bridges, they are scary! I’m excited to see the AlCan and visit Alaska with you. Thanks for taking us along for the ride 😁.
I rode our motorcycle over the Mackinac bridge in Michigan...200 some feet up I think and a metal grate on the center lane....that was and interesting feeling. 👀
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to be encouraging!! -J
Good luck! and Happy trails! Honk twice when you pass the Wasilla Walmart, my neck of the woods...
I'm sure we'll probably stop and shop. 😂 Stopped at a random convenience store and a bag of chips was $7.85 😵
What a beautiful beginning! Y’all are doing it!!! My husband couldn’t wait to show me the muskeg and all the challenges it presents in every freeze/thaw to roadways, buildings, and as you have probably noticed, electric poles and roadways. We hope y’all are having an amazing adventure!
The heaves have been..."fun" 😂 -J
Cool , looking forward to the trip.
It's trucking right along! -J
So happy for you guys to finally be on the way to Alaska. Can't wait to see the upcoming videos of your adventure. Do you guys have anywhere where we could continue to donate to your travels?
That's so kind of you ask 🤗. We do have a paypal link: paypal.me/openroading
We so appreciate anytime someone values the content above and beyond watching us - but please know that it's not required in any way. -J
@@OpenRoading Thanks for the link. I am having a bit of trouble having paypal recognize our new address so I am trying to contact them to fix it. When I get it verified, I want to donate. I love your videos.
Enjoyed the fun facts. TNX.
Awesome! We had fun editing the game show graphics. 😂 -J
Everything is perspective, right? I remember when the entire stretch was dirt and gravel. I was actually amazed how good the roads were. I hope you have the same experience! Also, I asked for boondocking recommendations and was referred to a Facebook page for Alaska Camping. I don’t have fb so I can’t confirm but figured it was worth passing along. Good luck!
My motto through the whole Alcan was "Road conditions are subjective" 😂 We're on the same page for sure. -J
Hope you guys are safe!!
Next time at O.J.’s, try the dilly dip your fries! 🍟
Really looking forward to my 2 fav rving couples on this Alaska trip together!
18:42 I do that block leveling thing in my van alone - after a little practice, I get it the first or second time. I'm sure you do, too 😊
haha! For sure! Thing is, if I'm not perfectly center when I let off the truck break....I'm gonna slide down. lol -J
Stop stressing! You're gonna be fine 🙂
Haha! I think this must be directed at Kalyn. 😂 Just wait till next week! 😁 -J
so love and appreciate your attitudes - how you take everything head on with a smile. outstanding. that will get you far.... like mebe to alaska! 😁👍👍
Thank you so much for that encouragement!
We're getting there!! -J
Great video and I love the enroute updates. I'm planning this soon too.
Happy travels.
🤗
Depending on how your trip goes will help us decide if we are going next year.
Ah ha! We're the guinea pig! I'm OK with that. 😁 -J
That was a clean vehicle by Alaska standards. 😂
Hope the road treats you well
Haha! Ya know what - you are right! I need to give myself a break. 😂 -J
I'm happy for you!
I'm glad to watch this trip.. because I will never do it!!!!
So glad you're coming along virtually! -J
Another great video. You guys seem to be off to an awesome start! Looking forward to the rest of the journey. You guys definitely have to have some poutine in CA
Thank you!! I (Joseph) tried the poutine in Canmore....I wasn't impressed. I think it was how the gravy made the fries soggy that did it in for me. 😬 -J
I am so excited to think I may soon be getting a postcard from y’all. I admit I am starting to struck! lol
Joe, you know I told you I’m a mother hen. Okay, mother nagging done! lol
So excited… So thrilled for you to be experiencing this.
So our plan on the tires has been this:
New Shocks ✅
New Hubs, Brakes & Bearings (Was supposed to get done before we got to Canada but there was a mix up so it got delayed but is happening soon).
Then getting the Axels looked at to see if anything is bent
Generally, we were tackling a bunch of projects that needed to be done from least expensive to most expensive.
I turned into him!!! lol
You two are so much fun to watch. As soon as I get the notification I drop what I’m doing!!!
@@ernestinebyrne9912 That's so kind of you! And you were very very kind in your concern. It sounds to me like your dad must have done something right along the way if that's how he sounded. 🤗 -J
Superb video!
Thanks! -J
Wish you were heading to Delta! Will be praying for a safe and enjoyable journey.🫎
Not sure if we're going to hit it on the way back or not, but our first NP of Alaska is Wrangle St. Elias so we needed to start trending southward toward Valdez. -J
@@OpenRoading I did some kayaking in Valdez back in 2007. It's beautiful country. Enjoy!
You are most likely deep in Alaska already. Hopefully everything went smooth. The road report in the video was very useful. I will making the same drive in Aug so using your videos to do a little scouting. By the way if you run into any issue in the Anchorage area and need anything let me know. Thanks again
Will do! We're planning on doing a meetup (details still pending) in the greater Anchorage area in late July. Would love to meet you. If you can't make that maybe we can make other arrangements! -J
Really enjoying your adventure. I can't wait to see more. Thank you for taking us along on your journey. 😃
When you get to the Kenai Peninsula. Hit me up!!! Try to do it in July. Salmon will be in then.
Only if we're watching bears fish. 😂 Unfortunately Neither Kalyn nor I like fish. I know I know.... we don't like coffee....we don't like fish....I don't know why people subscribe to us at this point!! 😂 -J
Lol....!!! No one watches bears around here... the Rv park in town called Moose River campground it has full hookups. Also, Izaak Walton State Park is 5.00 a day. I like a stones throw from both. If you looking for info for kenai peninsula.
@@croombsr Haha - I know. To all you Alaskans bears are like armadillos to us Floridians. 😂 Dime a dozen. But for us....Well, we try not to be the people creating traffic jams but we're close. 😂
We're currently looking to get to Brookes falls through "Alaska Bears Trips" (with the discount from Tour Saver) but if there is some inside scoop with someone else we should consider let us know! Going to be there in week or so.
Also...may be looking for a good welder/fabricator if I can't find one in Valdez. (Other slide-out pulley snapped. I was pretty proud when I got under there and saw the one I fixed is still holding strong. 😂)
We should be in your area for a couple of weeks if things go according to plan. -J
Looks like a lot of beauty like all the questions you did while you all was going down the road still safe on your trip
Did you see the milepost in Dawson Creek
We did not! -J
@@OpenRoadingdarn you were so close to it when you were at the Visitors Center!
Have you ever been in the trailer and Joe took off and started to drive away?
Haha - I've driven away from a gas pump with her in the RV so that I didn't block it for someone else when I was done - but that's pretty much it. Just a 3-5mph ride. 😂 -J
Loving your journey updates. Stay safe and power on!
Off we go! Thanks for coming along! -J
Love your travels
Good luck and can't wait to see the journey! Also that isn't that much mud xD
