(it's actually the other way around but you already called dibbs on the Rubber Duck) ... back when a cb was your cell phone in a vehicle ... my call sign was "The Wildman from the Florida Swamplands" ... fun days back then

      You should have a CB in your truck for the drive. FYI some of the "cheap" radio bandwidth is different for USA and Canada. Years ago they use to ask if you had one of the cheap radios, they don't seem to care anymore.

    we went last summer and took our van, and luckily for us we broke our windshield in the town of North Pole and we were able to get it fixed at a shop 5 miles from where it happened. The big rigs just power down through that gravel, so stay as far away from them as you can, that is definitely a true statement.

    Talking to my Alberta Veterinarian today, the FDA forms will not be ready for release until mid July.
    After the vet fills out the forms they will be sent to a CFIA Veterinarian for completion.

      Why? My husband and I are looking to get a 5th wheel.

    • @OpenRoading
      @OpenRoading  5 місяців тому

      @nashdiy8570 - A lot of the newer models are having frame issues. Generally (very broad brush statement here) not built as solidly as some older RVs - especially if you plan on putting some weight in it (solar panels, batteries, extra water, etc.)
      That said - if you ARE wanting new there are a couple of brands that you might be interested in. @WildRVLife has a Brinkley and it seems to be quite solid. Alliance also seems to be quite solid.
      If you aren't planning on boondocking and are just going from RV park to RV park some of the issues of durability might not be as much of an issue for you.
      Now - whether you get old or new - just do research on that specific brand and year. You won't find anything that's perfect (ours sure isn't) but you may find some deal breakers. And IMHO....don't buy anything that was built under the umbrella of Thor. Thor buys brands and then ruins them.
      Just my 2 cents! -J

    • @OpenRoading
      @OpenRoading  5 місяців тому

      For most brands I'd agree! This girl is a BEAST! -J

    • @badgerpa9
      @badgerpa9 5 місяців тому +2

      @@nashdiy8570 If you will move it a lot and pushing the weight on it you should search "frame flex" and watch the many videos on the subject. If it will not be moving weekly it is not as big a deal. It is not just one brand of RV or just one trailer frame maker it is from trying to cut weight on the bigger rigs and possibly cheap metal in the frames.

I bet it was even more incredible actually experiencing it first hand. It is sweet to see Texas dog Trinity (named after the nuclear bomb location?) and her new best friends going to Alaska to see the biggest mosquitos she will ever see. Hope the drive is fun, stay safe and healthy. I had a girl friend years ago that lived on the other side of a large swamp, my dad had worked building the roads and he said they sank a lot of trees into the swamp to make a base to start building the road. The road went like a roller coaster up and down all long it. I hope the roads are not to bad for you guys and even if you pull over for semi trucks you can still get a rock into the windshield. The rocks come off their tires.

    I am so excited to think I may soon be getting a postcard from y’all. I admit I am starting to struck! lol
    Joe, you know I told you I’m a mother hen. So I gotta say this, maybe you should have your tires at least aligned. Unless things have changed, a new tire means you need that done and perhaps a tire rotation. Bad tire wear is usually because the camber, or toe, or caster is off. Dad was a mechanic and I worked at the garage to help him, it was a tiny town and if a farmer broke down in the field Dad went out to get them going. So I’d have to go over there and at least pump gas. I did get to work on our vehicles, patch tires, and loved running the car up on the hoist and doing an oil change and lube job (I’m dating myself when I say that!). I’m an old lady and this was 50+ years ago. Okay, mother nagging done! lol
    So excited… So thrilled for you to be experiencing this. If I was your age I’d be doing it in a heartbeat I think. When I was your age it wasn’t possible. Working from home was pretty new for our company but I was in InfoTech and could do it occasionally. So cool one can live anywhere and work. Praying travel mercies for you and the rest of the mini caravan.

    • @OpenRoading
      @OpenRoading  5 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the info! I really do appreciate it along with your concern!
      So our plan on the tires has been this:
      New Shocks ✅
      New Hubs, Brakes & Bearings (Was supposed to get done before we got to Canada but there was a mix up so it got delayed but is happening soon).
      Then getting the Axels looked at to see if anything is bent
      Generally, we were tackling a bunch of projects that needed to be done from least expensive to most expensive.
      Getting it into a shop is always difficult because....it's our house. So it upheaves life quite a bit, especially if it's for more than a day.

    • @ernestinebyrne9912
      @ernestinebyrne9912 5 місяців тому +1

      I can only imagine. Too bad you can’t get a mechanic to bring all the equipment to you. There’s always something.
      I chuckle as I read over what I said. Oh my! I sound just like Dad. He was so adamant that I do everything just right. Drove me absolutely bonkers. So what happened? I turned into him!!! lol
      You two are so much fun to watch. As soon as I get the notification I drop what I’m doing!!!
