Loved this whole video but as a dog owner, my favs were Trinity not making a peep when you had to roll down the window at the border crossing and then barking at the painted dog pics on the sign. ❤️🐾
Yep. That's her. I think she's smarter than she's letting on though and knew that she could beat the stickers but was a little less confident about the border guard. 😂 -J
That's awesome you are with Craig and Victoria! Follow both of ya'll. Looking forward to your adventures. Enjoyed 8 yrs of FT Rving with my husband. He passed away recently, so now I travel with UA-cam. Remember to cherish each day and love one another. Make happy memories you'll always have those.
Congrats on making it to this milestone of the journey. So happy that Trinity did so well at the border crossing! Everyone is cheering for her and her new Open Roading life. Can't wait for the upcoming content (especially with Craig & Victoria). Truly, very entertaining content that we look forward to watching every week. See ya soon.
Thank you so much! Trinity continues to protect us from stickers and surprise us with calmness around officials. 😂 Maybe her dream is to be a police dog someday. 😁 -J
Paying for dry camping on private property helps the owners pay for property taxes, road maintenance, tree trimming, the greeter, liability insurance and probably more. How lovely you had a place to park since the park was full. Bless you for supporting a small business.
Oh we understand that and we probably wouldn't have even mentioned it if it was around $10 a night to stay here... It's hard to justify paying $29CAD a night for zero amenities. When you can get full hookups for $45CAD it's strange to think that the Water, Electric, and Sewer might only be $15 of that. 🤷🏼 Just our opinion. -J
Thank you so much. The channel grew like gangbusters and then slowed wayyyy down. But we're just so happy and grateful that people are enjoying the content and we're not doing it completely for free anymore! 🙂 -J
🎉🎉 I hope you enjoy so so much of it! I'd say every minute but we know there's going to be ups and downs - there always is! Don't forget to stop and enjoy the scenery. We moved way too fast at first! -J
Wow guys, great episode! We can really sense your excitement about going into Canada. So glad you’re bringing us along with you! My husband wanted me to comment about Trinity barking at the dog art, she’s such a good girl watching out for you. 😇
Don’t fool around with gas on the Alcan. When you find a gas station fill up cause you seriously are in the wilderness. Talk about stress. This is going to be an entertaining trip. Enjoy every minute. It’s beautiful and breathtaking taking. Enjoy. ❤️❤️❤️
Kalyn has all the fuel Alcan fuel stops mapped out! We wouldn't have even attempted this one if we didn't know the milage (or is it Kilometer....age) to Banff. I did the math and knew we were good even if there were some steep grades thrown in. Driving through downtown though.... not part of the plan. 😂 -J
Two of my favorite UA-camrs traveling together to Alaska - Priceless!!!! This will help me in our planning for our trip in three years! So looking forward to seeing what’s to come!!
Terrific video, thanks for sharing! Your border crossing was very standard. The officer made a point of asking about the three items Canadian authorities care about most: alcohol, tobacco and firearms. He was very thorough in asking about weapons of any kind because that is a priority for Canadian officials. If you had shown the slightest hesitation in your answers, you would have been sent to secondary, but you were clear, confident and knew what you had and didn't have in the vehicle. The question about employment was the same one Canadians get when going south--officials want to make sure visitors can support themselves and have a reason to return home at the end of their trip.
Thanks so much for watching! We're loving your fine country! 😂 (I don't think I have to put the "-J" on the end because you already know who wrote this.)
@@OpenRoading Take it well since you two are very respected by your subscribers. But remember that we are also laughing at Canadians. 😊. Thank goodness you only dealing with them on the way to another US state.
here is something to put back in the fund. The family and I are taking the same route as you (without the stops) in August. Interested in the road condition on your travels on the main route. Any intel would be appreciated.
Exciting! After you talked about how reactive Trinity could be to strangers, I shared your apprehension. Then she alerted to the dog images on the trailer 🤣🐾
My rule for Canada and alaska was to always fill up when at a half tank. You’ll hit road construction once you get farther north - they’ll have you sit for hours sometimes waiting. Always turn off The truck when you arrive to a construction stop. You may sit 5 min or 2 hrs. I made the mistake of leaving the truck idling after I had passed a fuel stop. nail biter. While you’re in Canada, spend the money to get some scepter MFC’s to keep an extra 10-15 gal (2 or 3 jugs) of diesel in your truck next to your water in the bed. Late summer far north some of the stations run out of fuel and you’re at the mercy of what’s available. I had to purchase fuel from a hunting camp one time from their generator tank. $10/gal…
I live in Cranbrook. It was great you showed so much of the area up to and past Radium. I've watched most of your recent videos. Just got to this one. Best regular life entertainment ever.
I just saw on RV Lifestyle there are new and complicated rules for bringing dogs back into the USA starting in August. Just wanted to let you know in case you haven't heard yet so you have plenty of time to figure that all out. Can't wait to see your travels this summer!
Yep! Appreciate it! I know we have the right chip in her - still gotta go over the rest to make sure we don't get hung up when the time comes. I'm sure, like everything else with border crossings, this is going to be one of those things that they don't ask for 99% of the time but the 1 time you try to go through without your ducks in a row, they'll ask. -J
FYI, some credit cards charge no foreign exchange fee. Some charge at or above the daily rate, and charge you at the end of each day. And some charge a transaction fee PLUS they settle at the end of the month, charging the average rate for the month. So it pays to ask ahead. Last time I was in Canada, the store didn't take dollars at par--but I could use Amex with no fees, at the official exchange rate for that day. It was a fast choice!
Yep. Learned this one the hard way. 😂 One of our cards has a per-international-transaction fee. Thankfully we had only made 2 purchases before we figured it out. -J
Probably a little late for this suggestion to help you guys, but might help someone else...write down the Metric (meters) height of your rig and tape it on your dash where you can easily see it (next to the speedometer?). Especially relevent/helpful at gas stations with canopys. So happy you guys are on your way - this is going to be an awesome summer!
Good call! We're still in country so we may do it. We know that we're good if it's 4 meters or over - and that gives us a little buffer. We never thought to convert the length today and kept seeing length restriction signs. 👀 Did some quick math though and figured it out. -J
You give us a good glimpse of what it looks like. Pictures don’t ever really show the full beauty, which inspires us to come see it all for ourselves…Someday!!
Hi Terry! We really felt like we didn't do a good job of it in this video...but we just drove the Ice Fields Parkway today (for a video that comes in 2 weeks) so we worked really hard at trying to do a better job of capturing the beauty. Still will only be a fraction of it though! -J

I am so happy that you guys finally gets to go to your dream destination. You have worked and planned for this for so long. I was smiling like a dumb duck the entire video. Have a nice summer!
If you had done this in 2023 we might have run into you 😮. We cruised from Japan to Alaska and finished in Vancouver then did the Rocky Mountaineer and explored the Canadian Rockies. We loved that whole area.
I put the mic wire into the headphone jack for a video a while back. So frustrating!! It became something that I checked EVERY time - until we got our new setup, where the mic receiver is always plugged in.
Such a bummer!! And of course you don't notice it until you go to edit and it's like... ohhhhh.nooooooooooo. 😭 I think we have finally gotten our mic setup figured out though...after this...and then dumping a video in part because of mic settings issues. -J
Great episode! We made this same Canadian port crossing mid May but left our travel trailer in West glacier. Banff was so breathtaking with every possible weather change. We subscribed after the episode where you first met Trinity and were captivated by the bunny-pup combo. We have Guinea pigs but haven’t figured how to travel with them on longer stretches yet! Thanks for inspiring us!
This is the first video I’ve watched of yours and it was so surreal to watch you go through the border that I’ve crossed well over 700 times in the past 10 years and shop at the same grocery store that we shop at in Cranbrook was a blast to see. Made me smile. PS. You drove right by my house. lol.
That's too funny! Next time we'll be sure to honk our horn. 😁 That border crossing has got to be one of the best. It's the same one we crossed in 2019 and it was a good experience both times! -J
Cracking up! We can't wait to visit Canada and Alaska, but I will definitely be using these old videos for help, when the time comes. I feel such information overload with it! Trinity and her fake dogs...SOO funny!
We fly by the seat of our pants a lot more than we'd like to admit. But there is a beauty in the flexibility. But I'm glad Kalyn is a planner and for things like border crossings she makes sure we don't try anything dumb. 😁 -J
Thank you for a very entertaining viewing experience - trust your travels through Canada and Alaska are amazing! FYI T-Mobile backed off of their away plan and have put it on indefinite hold... we've been using it in our RV for nearly 2 years and were scrambling to find an alternative as well, but glad we have a bit more time as it's a great deal... considering starlink as an option if/when they go back to the away plan. Thanks again and have fun traveling with Craig and Victoria.
Yeah - I'm not sure what is going to happen on the Tmobile front. It got more dramatic for us. They wouldn't allow us to return our unit in store, so we had to ship it. I packed it well but they claim it was broken so they wanted to charge us $75 for the return. Soooo now, we're disputing that. So much fun! lol. -J
@@godsdeliciousunknown Apparently some tmobile stores are not actually owned by Tmobile, but are more like franchises or some such. So you might be able to return one to one owned by the company - but everything in our area at the time were the authorized dealers as opposed to actual tmobile (even though they all look the same). -J
Hahahaha! YAY another for team no gloves. I think we have a youtube short we made a couple years back that you might get a kick out of... ua-cam.com/users/shortsd9MgSEc4FFg
We just visited Windsor, Canada driving from Columbus, Ohio. We only stayed for less than 24 hours via an impromptu trip just to see what Canada was like. It was our first time and we had no issues with border patrol they were very nice. We did not take our dogs, but ours would have been barking nonstop and at the painted dogs too I’m sure lol. Hopefully we are going back in a few weeks and my hubby wants to take the dogs but I am too worried about them misbehaving, Trinity is so well behaved!
We haven't figured her out yet...sometimes she just sees someone outside the window and goes bananas and other times she's as cool as a cucumber. What we know for sure though is that she doesn't like dog decals on Cruise America RVs 😂 -J
Can’t wait to follow your adventure! We head to Banff next year. We live in Mexico and 2 apps that have been super helpful in making conversions are World Currency Converter and Units Plus. Super easy and fast. Liters to gallons is a tough brain conversion! Lol. I’m a bit ‘particular’ when mapping out gas stops. I use Google Earth or street view on Maps so I know how to enter and exit when we get there. Gassing up is stressful! Have so much fun 😊
I am so excited and I follow both channels! Love them both!!! Love the views of Canada so far! I may have to go back and watch your previous Canada videos.
I can't believe you are already in Canada. I am glad we are not the only ones that have pressed on getting low on gas because it was too hard to turn into gas stations with our camper. I hope you have a wonderful time in Banff...will be waiting for your next video to include us on your journey.
I always do the math first! But yeah, I'm not afraid to push it a little if I have to. Besides...if I run out, I've got the bike I can use to go get more. 😂 -J
A little late to comment, but we took a weekend to drive from Skagway AK to Fairbanks. about 400 miles is in Canada so 4 border crossings in three days. Both the folks at CBP and CBSA are very pleasant and friendly. All folks have to do is understand and follo the rules. Don't sweat the border crossings. BTW prices in Fairbanks Costco are the same as in the lower 48. Safe travels..
Just wait until you get to Jasper! I loved 100% more than Banff. Are you doing the Ice fields Parkway? What a great summer in store for you. As a fellow “Resident of Florida,” I was completely charmed and bowled over by the kindness of people of Canada 🇨🇦 I hope your experience is even better!
So glad your trip has started. I was yelling at the screen when you passed on the gas and decided to go to Banff. Been there and done that but our credit card was compromised so we spend hours at that gas station in the heat of summer with super crowds. Glad you are there on the shoulder season. Enjoy and here’s to many shenanigans with friends❣🙉🙊🙈
Haha! If it had been a reasonable turn around...we would have totally done that. But it was literally miles of 2 lane roads with no real good spot to turn around without getting into it's own type of pickle. -J
Last year we left Alaska on the Glenn Allen Highway headed for Snag Junction. The snow storm (accumulation estimated to be about 4”) we were in combined with frost heaves made it a slow go. That was June 4th. Haha. Canada and Alaska are incredible! I am so excited for you!

So excited for you all! I watch both of your channels and figured you were going together. Glad you got a really good camera! We're also planning to cross at Rooseville. Good to know the road up to the park is fine. I'm interested in how you got your park passes. At the gate, or online?
That's the plan! We didn't have as much "scenery" in this video because we're still getting used to the new camera setup and a lot of our scenery video was unwatchable. lol -J
As I watched this, my dogs perked right up and started barking when Trinity barked at the dog sign. 😄😅 I'm interested to see how Trinity gets along with Victoria and Craig's dogs??? Kudo's to your driving skills Joseph! 👍👍 And extra gas(diesel) can or two wouldn't hurt. 😉 Now I'll have to subscribe to Victoria & Craigs blog too! Thanks!!
Welcome to my homeland! As a Canadian living in the US I will vicariously live through you this summer. Next time you’re at a grocery store try Crispers Salt and Vinegar flavour. You’re welcome 😊
I follow both of u anyway. When Victoria said heading to Alaska, I immediately thought of u guys. Welcome to Canada, good thing didn't hit high season in Banff with that trailer.
Good border crossing Aye! Every time I hear Banff I remember the show " F Troop " ( before your time ) and corporal Agarn had a cousin from Banff that they pronounced Ban FaaFaa. Enjoy yourselves and stay safe.
Now I'm going to have to find some clips! I'm usually down for older TV shows! I'm not so down that shows when I was a kid now qualify for many as "older tv shows." 😂 -J
Madam mayor from Otter Creek Florida & her husband are on a similar trip... they have a bonus they're retired military so they can stay in all kinds of amazing campsites.. very reasonably, in addition to having fantastic base discounted shopping in the commissary..
I don't know if you use it or not but I've found Gas Buddy to be useful on our travels in Ontario. Definitely get fuel when you are most easily able. It's always tricky with an RV and diesel can make it even more challenging. Thanks for taking us on this adventure with you, it's a bucket trip list for us.
We hit the snow storm crossing Montana last week before crossing into Canada in Oreville a few days ago. Our border crossing was also easy with no line and the usual crossing questions.
Oh my goodness that Banff drive with your rv was so stressful! I drove my grandson and I up to Banff for a drive when we were on a three week road trip several years ago. We were in my Mazda 3, and I was totally stressed by all of the cars, tour buses, and pedestrian traffic. 😮 We just drove through town and I asked my grandson if he wanted to park and walk around. He said absolutely not! He just wanted to go back home to Texas. 😂 At least he loved Glacier National Park.

The weather here is so strange! We’ve realized that the weather apps are just their best guess. 😂 -J
It's like upstate NY. When you don't like the weather wait 15 minutes
So excited that my two fav rving couples are traveling together this summer!
Not sure if I'm happier to be traveling together with Craig and Victoria or that we are ranking in the "fav RVing couples" list! -J
So much fun! lol. -J
@@OpenRoading that's sad to hear - praying it gets resolved for you quickly ... amazing they wouldn't take it back at the store!
Fancy driving Joseph. Those were narrow roads.❤ It’s going to be an epic summer.
Really looking forward to it! -J
I love that you aren't wearing gloves when dumping your tanks! I don't either, just wash your hands when done!
Hahahaha! YAY another for team no gloves. I think we have a youtube short we made a couple years back that you might get a kick out of... ua-cam.com/users/shortsd9MgSEc4FFg
Thank you for visiting Canada, hope you had fun. As a home sick Canadian living abroad thanks. Come back.
Still here enjoying it! -J
I had to get fuel there in Banff back in 2009. My setup is a 32’ bumper pull on a f350 crew cab long bed. It was super tight.
We should make a bumper sticker "This was pulled through a gas station in Banff."
I bet we could sell 2 of them. 😂 -J
Love you guys. Keep on doing productivity things!!!😂
😂😂 I will never live this down. Nor should I. lol -J
Welcome to Canada! We love you all. Double the fun! be safe, have fun
Loving it here so far! -J
Nothings sneaking up on Trinity. Haha
Nope, she is ON IT. -K 😂
Thanks for the app tips! Yeah, I checked google sat later and was like "oooooo....that's where I should have turned." 😂 -J
I like the travelogue style since I can’t travel this summer. It’s nice to look out your windshield and take a trip with you.
We had that last summer. Thankfully in our case we were "stuck" in a beautiful spot but man...we did miss the road. Welcome aboard! -J
I loved this , very well done. Trinity is becoming quite the 'show girl'.
Indeed she is. She needs her camera time. -J
Loved the video and that you're with Craig and Victoria!
Thanks so much! -J
I am so excited and I follow both channels! Love them both!!! Love the views of Canada so far! I may have to go back and watch your previous Canada videos.
We just have 1. 😁 We've to the country a couple of times, but only 1 video....and it's a tricky one. 😂 (You'll know what I mean when you watch it). -J
And so it begins. have fun...
It's a big deal for us crossing that border! 😃 -J
Awesome! Yeah, we've crossed 3 times now I think - no issues other than my brain turning to mush. 😂 -J
Did you notice gat everyone crosses the street at the same time from all corners. It’s a Banff thing.
Prices in Banff are more.
In Banff it seemed like everyone crossed the street constantly. LOL -J
Banff is overcrowded with tour buses. Head up the road to jasper and enjoy some relative solitude.
Just drove the whole route through Jasper yesterday. Stunning! Hope to spend more time there someday! -J
Looks like fun for both couples, great choice.
Thanks! -J
Drove the IFP (do they call it that?) today....wow wow wow. -J
Haha! THIS is why we have been taking it slow! Won't be hitting actual Alaska till mid June! -J
Can't wait to watch this! You guys are getting closer to Alaska everyday. Excited for your postcards!
Getting closer to begin writing them!! Actually really looking forward to that! -J
How exciting. Safe travels, we’ll be watching. ❤😊😊
Thanks so much! -J
Looking forward to your adventures, enjoy Cad and Ak
Awesome! In case you don't know - We've actually got quite a few of the videos (not all of them yet!) Of this adventure up on youtube! You can find them in order here (newest to oldest): www.youtube.com/@OpenRoading/videos
(Make sure "Latest" is selected!) -J
Wow snow at 38 degrees that's nutty! I usually don't even think about snow until it's like 34.
It was a very sloppy instant melt type of snow. I also don't fully trust the truck thermometer. 😂 -J
Great video! I’m looking forward to your travels. Happy trails.👍🏼😎
Thanks so much! -J
Welcome to my fine country. Hope you enjoy your month here. Safe travels and if your return passes by Kelowna, I would love to buy you a coffee and say hi.
Everyone saying "fine country" is making my night. 😂
Thanks so much for the offer. I *think* we are coming back further north - but that is always subject to change so stay tuned and if you see we are heading that way please remind us! -J
So excited for you all! I watch both of your channels and figured you were going together.
Glad you got a really good camera!
We're also planning to cross at Rooseville. Good to know the road up to the park is fine.
I'm interested in how you got your park passes. At the gate, or online?
We got the park pass online - but don't forget to print it out! -J
I I am glad you on the way. Just be safe sure, a lot of video and pictures.
Thanks!!
Awesome! Yes, please do! They have a super fun channel!!
Lol at the dogs. It’s a chain reaction all started by…stickers. 🤦🏻♂️
Had no idea you would meet up, been following both for some time bow, from South Africa, love both channels and your wonderful country!
Glad we were able to surprise someone! 😁 -J
Have so much fun! I’m taking notes because one day I will be doing this 😊
Awesome! So far - Highly recommend this route. -J
Welcome to my homeland! As a Canadian living in the US I will vicariously live through you this summer. Next time you’re at a grocery store try Crispers Salt and Vinegar flavour. You’re welcome 😊
Crispers Salt and Vinegar - will look for it! Thanks for the rec! -J
I follow both of u anyway. When Victoria said heading to Alaska, I immediately thought of u guys. Welcome to Canada, good thing didn't hit high season in Banff with that trailer.
Thanks!
Re: Banff - Right!? Shoulder season was crazy enough! lol -J
:) THANKS MUCH for sharing and Welcome to Canada :) ALL the BEST and safe travels! WELL DONE and too funny, eh? :)
Thank you! What a fine country! 😂 -J
W Victiria and craig!!! Woohooo! They just started a community on their channel! 🎉
They did indeed! -J
Welcome to Canada eh! Enjoy my beautiful country!! Love your videos. Keep it up!
Loving every minute here after the 1 week of rain. 😁 -J
Such gorgeous scenery! Always fill up with gas when you reach a gas station! Happy travels!❤😊
We wanted to. 😂 Just couldn't turn around on that road. LOL! -J
Great video. Safe travels.
Thank you! -J
totally agree. Canadian Rockies are Beautiful .
Just stunning! -J
Madam mayor from Otter Creek Florida & her husband are on a similar trip... they have a bonus they're retired military so they can stay in all kinds of amazing campsites.. very reasonably, in addition to having fantastic base discounted shopping in the commissary..
Very cool! -J
so excited to see you 4 crazies tour Alaska--
Haha! I can tell you know us pretty well on here if you're calling us crazy. 😜 - J
We all know that Trinity is the star of the show but could we get more Cody content? 🐰
He's been introverting out a lot. 😁 He got a photo in the community though today! -J
Awesome traveling together, enjoy you both
Twice the fun! -J
Kalyn's got all our fuel stops lined up on the Milepost book! 🙂 -J
We hit the snow storm crossing Montana last week before crossing into Canada in Oreville a few days ago. Our border crossing was also easy with no line and the usual crossing questions.
Major snow on the road with the RV is one of my worst nightmares. Glad you made it safe! -J
Y'all should put one of those life size dog side profile stickers facing inwards in the truck and see how Trinity responds when she jumps in 😂
New RV decals! 😂 -J
Great video liked how you work together You couldn't find a better couple to travel with enjoy hi Trinity
Thanks so much! Your hello has been passed on to Trin. 😀 -J
You two are so cute! Enjoy your summer. Can't wait to see your adventures.
Thanks so much! When I was in my 20s I always cringed at "cute." At 41 I'll take it to the bank! -J
LOL! Yes, the town of Banff is a weeeee bit crowded! -J
