- Welcome back to the channel and welcome to a new project car.
So this is a 1999 Rover Mini Cooper Sportspack with some serious rust issues, if anyone knows about the later minis they will know they really suffer from rust.
In this episode we get the sportspack mod done, this allows the wheels to move and for the big factory arches to be fitted back on the car.

Every video on this MINI leaves me in awe of your craftsmanship Marc. The latest arch modifications and the end results are simply amazing. You make taking an angle grinder to panels look easy, new grafted panels at that in this case, testament to your skills. Cap doffed Sir for an epic transformation. I look forward to the next update.
Thanks Darren I wasn’t looking forward to doing this mod as I have never done one before but thought how hard can it be. Really happy with the results I definitely won’t be worry if I ever need to do it again for sure. Cheers for watching and supporting the channel 👍
Man not surprised you're pleased with the result, considering how it started it's incredible transformation!
Cheers really appreciate that. It’s definitely come along way this little car for sure.
Great Job!😎
Its hard to believe its the same car when compared to a few months ago when it was quite literally falling apart! 👍
Looking forward to seeing it in paint, it will be a head turner for sure👍👌
Thanks buddy yeah she has definitely changed and is far more solid than she was when she arrived with me. Hopefully this will see another one back on the road in time. Cheers for watching 👍
Hi Marc this mini s coming along nicely just playing catch up with your videos.
Take Care Stay Safe Everyone Regards Dave 👍😎🏴
Thanks Dave. It’s definitely come far this car. Cheers for following along. I hope your safe and well 👍
Hi Marc, front end looks fantastic now! The arch mod is cool, great temple hey and extra support from that lip. I did watch a vid a few years ago and the guy who was restoring the front end for the lady owner actually folded his own lip, using the curvature line from the A panel. Great stuff as always 😊
Thanks buddy. Yes I have seen people do the same mod and it’s definitely something I want to try out one day for sure. These panels came with the car so used those. Happy with the outcome for sure. Cheers for watching 👍
I remember templates being around years ago, but not the lip, think people beat it out the wing, which is hard to get neat. This looks awesome
Yeah that’s what I heard to people just hammer and dollied the lip round. Cheers for watching 👍
@@SimpsonsClassics and cheers for sharing the process!
@@TheCurlyP no worries buddy 👍
Excellent job can't what to see it sprayed up!!!
Thanks me neither although I think it’s having a nice professional paint job 😬
Top job, great end result
Cheers thanks buddy 👍
Hi Marc, great job buddy! (After having a 63 mini as my much loved first car right back in 1971) unlike you the only mini I really love the look of is the MPI sport pack and the one you have there is just beautiful! Loving this series - thank you 👍😊
Cheers Phil. The sportspack mini is a truly well sorted car with everything you need and drivability if definitely a factor of having one. For me they are a little to modern, but also great in their own rights. Cheers for watching
Another quality piece of work
Thanks buddy 👍
Way cool... had no idea those lips existed. Nice work
Thanks Randy me neither until they came with the car.
13’s for life 👊😊
Haha
Cracking vid I'll be doing that soon to mine so good to see how it's done
Cheers buddy I am glad to have been of some help 👍
Good work 👍🏻
Cheers thanks Chris 👍
Speaking from experience I wouldn't drill out any holes using the template. Get your arches first and offer them up and see where they make contact with the body.
Great video as usual 👌
Thanks Anthony yes, like mentioned I think I will wait until I have the arches back in my hands and get them drilled out maybe closers to the paint stage. No point doing it now and getting it wrong. Cheers for watching 👍
Another good video mark 👍
Cheers thanks Ian 👍
Looks neat and well done .. but looking at the old panels all you have done is add a point for rust to gather .. making your on lip with a tool would of been better and less chance of creating a water trap ...
Valid point but that would have taken a lot longer and this is something I wanted to try out, the water won’t be getting in once it’s all sealed up and painted. 👍
Great work pal. I have to agree with you on minis n 10’s just look better to my eye 👍👍
Thanks buddy nice to have another 10” wheel fan out there.
@@SimpsonsClassics yeah one day I’ll have a mini sitting pretty on them
@@Darrenfive0 that’s a good goal to have buddy
Nice job Whats the model of spot welder you use ? thank you
Thanks Steve. It’s an old machine made by SIP can’t see the model number as is all rubbed off.
What was that tool you used o the arch that you added? Was it welded o or?
Hi, I just cut the section out that I didn’t want and then fitted it using a spot welder.
Where online can i download that template for the cutout please?
Hi these can be downloaded from the mini spares website I believe
Mac great job, what's the new lip called and part number please 👍
Thanks Tony. Not sure what it’s correct name is. But might have a look for it
Mini spares part number HMP441029 £78.90
Can’t wait to wreck my car on Saturday doing this 😂
You will be fine buddy
This one's really coming together well, it'll be weighing more now though seeing as it has some actual metal in it 😂. Is the different steering rack a necessity with all 13" wheels? My mate was thinking 13's but went 6x12 in the end which IMO will look a lot better.
Haha yeah it has some steel in now which is great. No I don’t think it’s necessary but it was a mod done by rover for the mpi sportspack cars. I have ran a car on 13’s and know of tones of people that just use a standard rack. It was just an upgrade by rover.
@@SimpsonsClassics Ah right I see, I only asked because it wasn't something that I was aware of. It's definitely looking good now, you sure have some skills mate.
@@graemew7001 thanks buddy just me bashing metal about in the garage aha. Thanks for watching 👍
Looking the business..
Thanks buddy
how do I find wheel arch guide PDF file.
I have put a link below 👍
www.minispares.com/article/Technical~Information/General~Tech/Sportspack~Fitting~Template.aspx?ids=6%7C10%7C1273&perma=sportspack-fitting-template
What size paper do you print them on?
Don't trust the hole locations on them templates mate
No that’s why I have left them until I have the arches back in my hands to sort those nearer to paint time I guess
@@SimpsonsClassics yea I have this to do on my car and seen a lot of people say they are miles out.
Yeah I have heard the same buddy 👍
