The 2010 loss against Philly really hurt but it was easy to forget after sweeping Philly and winning the Cup in 2011. The thing that nobody talks about though is that Krejci broke his wrist on a huge Richards hit in game 3 and Simon Gagne came back for Philly in game 4 and tore it up with 4 goals & 1 assists through games 4-7. Boston losing Krejci and Philly gaining Gagne was a huge swing that often gets forgotten about.
Not to mention Savard was out. Then there were a lot of key injuries to other players as well. It stung but really when you look at the team without their top 2 centers and their 3rd line center not even close to 100 percent, the loss isn't that surprising.
Also an interesting funny thing I figured out a few years ago. They won in '29, '39, 1941-1970 29 year difference, 1972-2011 39 year difference. Due for a cup win in 2040.
Boston has been my favourite team since getting into hockey a couple of years ago. Thanks for doing this, it was a really interesting insight into the history of the team.
As an Avs fan the Bourque thing was weird from our end too. There was the leadership group with Sakic et al. Players drafted and developed by the team with the string of calder finalists in the late 90s. And in comes Bourque who essentially took over the captaincy and over-shadowed the rest of the team in a way Roy and Blake never did. It was a moment, but it has never sat well with me. He wasn't a slouch at all, but it was just kinda weird.
I was 9 when Bourque joined the Bruins, so I have no clear memories before that. I was 30 when Bourque left the Bruins. He will always be my favorite player. I shed more than a few tears in 2001 when he won the Cup with the Avalanche, and I've heard other guys my age say the same. There was actually a victory party at Boston City Hall for Bourque. He brought the Cup. I know of no other instance of a city celebrating another city's championship.
I remember Normand Leville's rookie year and he was my favorite Bruin. Fast, talented small forward and a little sparkplug. The way his career ended was an absolute shame. Watch the video when he came out to the ceremony of the closing of the Garden. It's still my favorite sports moment....You'll cry....
Those epic Montreal vs Boston playoff games in the old Boston garden were fun to watch. Boston definitely had an advantage at home due to the smaller ice.
The Bruins have been a defense-first team for many decades, as contrasted with a team like Toronto who is offense-first. The defense philosophy came to maturity with the Devils cup years and needs to be remembered as a viable model for team strategy. If, like some hockey fans, a 2-1 game victory is as exciting as an 8-2 blowout; we need to remember that this game is a 3-zone contest and that the goal avoided might be easier to achieve than the goal scored.
As much as people hate Boston Teams they do have to realize how loyal their fans are. These fans have had to wait long periods of time for their team to win their respective leagues.
He deserves criticism at times, but other times he's done little or nothing wrong. I call it "Marchand Derangement Syndrome." If a play involves him, he must have just committed one of the dirtiest acts in NHL history.
As a teenaged Bruins fan, I hated the Canadiens in the '80s. They always beat Boston in the playoffs. Eighteen consecutive playoff series victories, going back to the '40s. The last four were in '84, '85, '86, and '87. When the Bruins finally beat them in '88, in Montreal no less, it was even more satisfying to me than winning the Cup in 2011. I attended a Bruins game at the Forum in '91 or '92 and no one bothered me, even though I wore a Bruins sweatshirt. I've always remembered that. Now that I've seen many Boston sports championships, I'm much more casual about being a fan, and the hate for rivals has turned to respect.
Big Bruins fan here, originally from southern New England living in Florida now. I don't see them being a deep playoff team again for at least the next five years. The defense is a huge gaping hole of a weakness and most of the defensive players could just as easily end up on AHL rosters and most people wouldn't bat an eye. By the time that is situated, Bergeron, Marchand, any conversation of Krejci as well as players like Hall and Coyle will most likely also be gone.
Took me grandfather to the regular season finale this year for the Bruins and finally snapped my losing streak at live games. Hadn't seen a win in the Garden since Byron Dafoe 😂
Leveille was a dynamic skater with a great drive to the net. He would have been a player in the mold of Cournoyer, not to suggest for a moment he would have put up those kind of numbers or been a Hall of Famer. Normand was short but had a compact frame and was not afraid to stick his nose in the tough areas.
Fighting until a game 7 and getting to the Stanley Cup, even if you lose, is a lot better than getting swept and never even getting to a cup Half full/half empty I hope Bergeron stays
There should have been an investigation into why the Bruins drafted Ryabgikov in the first round! I watched him play in training camp that year and he wouldn't have made most high school teams in the Boston area.Hearing his name still pains me to this day.
I would love to see some players that you have listed during these videos as "Under 100 games" make to to or over that mark. Not to prove you wrong, but for their careers.
I think you're right, they'll hang #40 from the rafters. He's working as a corporate ambassador for the Bruins & said he was thinking about getting into coaching - his best friend, Sean Thornton, tried luring him away to the Florida Panthers yet Tuuka said he's staying with black & gold. So I'm guessing they will retire number 40 Technically, he is a Stanley cup winner It would be odd though, to retire #40, yet not #32 (Thomas) So when it does happen, it's going to be controversial for the Tim Thomas fans that remember how much Tuuka choked, in not 1 Not 2 But 3 Stanley cup finals! And it definitely came out that Tim Thomas was head injured. But I don't think Thomas wants his number retired. I just read a comment under another video about him yesterday - he doesn't watch hockey, got rid of all his gear and wants nothing to do with hockey.
@@TheFoolintherainn Some interesting points. I can 100% see the argument on either side. only won a cup as a backup yes.
