Hard to argue...one can make a persuasive case for his exemplary humility especially in light of his literal superstar status in the hockey world. What a gift for the sport to have had the likes of Beliveau, Howe, Mario...#4. Class acts all.
Boy is Bobby loved in Boston and all around in the world of hockey. What a classy person. Every father would like to have a son like Bobby. Humble to the core.
Habs fan for almost 60 years and I have discussed among my sport fanatic friends a longtime held sense that of all the supreme athletes that have worn a Boston/NE jersey in their careers (e.g. Williams, Russell, Bird, Brady etc.), regardless of a most worthy respect and admiration for their contributions to their sports, it is Orr that will always be the most beloved, not least because of his character. I don't believe that I'm wrong about that.
Flyers fan here. Without a doubt, Bobby Orr is my favorite non-Philly athlete. By far, the greatest defenseman ever to play the game . Feared every time he began a rush up the ice.
One of the classiest guys you can ever meet. Not a pretentious bone in his body, a real gentlemen. We loved watching you play the great game of hockey. You are the greatest player of all time, hands down.
Bobby is the greatest hockey player of all time. He is an even better person. I know a guy who is best friends with him and I feel I know Bobby vicariously thru Jim Peters.
Growing up in Montreal as a young Habs fan I was fortunate to see Bobby play. For me he is the greatest player ever. I recall begging my Dad to get me a Bruins sweater with Bobby's name and number on the back. He said I would get ridiculed but I didn't care. IMO Bobby changed the game and lead the way for young "D" like Robinson and Coffey to excel offensively. He is a legend.
That's awesome. They wanted to show their appreciation. One of the newer chants is "THANK-YOU. BOB-BY!! (clap. clap. clap-clap-clap)." If that one was around back then they would have done it for 20 straight minutes. This was the '79 Bruins team. When Grapes took them to within a hair of the Stanley Cup Final. That would've been just a great, great night. The hero-worship must've been unreal. I learned of Bobby Orr much later on. I had no idea how good he was. Arguably the greatest complete hockey player ever.
Greatest hockey player I ever saw and the best example of a sportsman, person and model for young people you could ask for..Like a very very few, he was so good you just had to laugh and marvel. Bravo.and eternal thanks
Best player I have ever seen at the old Boston Garden. He revolutionized the game. Defenseman were not expected to score. And yet he wins the scoring title as a defenseman ! #4 Bobby Orr 🏒🤘
Terry O'Reilly. The heart and soul of the Bruins players from the mid 70's through the mid 80's. What a tough bastard. Thanks Terry for all the memories!
I was blessed to be able to watch Bobby's entire career as a young teenager in central Mass.....he is the greatest player that will ever play hockey and a greater human being. People talk about records that will never be broken in sports but for some reason Bobby is never mentioned in those conversations. But, what he did when he won all four major awards in hockey as a defenseman will never happen again. Winning the scoring title in the NHL and winning the best defenseman award the same year, which he did twice, will also never happen again. That feat just doesn't even make any logical sense yet that's what he did. I think Bobby Clark put it best when he said after seeing Bobby play, "he needs to be in one league higher than this one...". He also said Bobby Orr is what what all hockey players everywhere should strive to be like both on and off the ice. He wasn't flashy...he didn't need to be....he was just so much better than everyone else and still would be today.
I'm a Tom Landry-era Dallas Cowboys fan, watching in earnest since 1963. But I am also a NHL fan, from back when there were only 6 teams in the league. As a kid born and raised in rural 🇨🇱Texas🇨🇱, I basically knew of no other pro hockey fans. There were no NHL teams in the South, but we got the NHL games on TV, and l became a fan of the Montreal Canadiens. I remember the legendary Bobby Orr's rookie season with the Boston Bruins in '66, and became a fan of his from then on. Not only is Bobby Orr one of the greatest players in the history of the NHL, but even more so.....he is a great human being. God bless our pro hockey players from a by-gone era 🏒🏒
If you think gretzky and Bobby orr are in the same league You are out of You're cotton picking mind. Gretzky was a stiff and a clown wouldn't back himself up He was a coward he would stir up crap And skate behind His two goons marty mcsorley and dave samenco

I seperate my support for him as a hockey player from my disreguard for him supporting Trump, that scoundrel. The hockey thing is too much top lose to politics.
A great great hockey player and an even better human being!
i was at this game with my dad....i was 11,it was the first time i saw my dad cry......what a night

My idol of course from the age 8 in 1969,, to still even today...
Even with two bad knees, he was better than anyone else.
Growing up I played left defence and wore # 4 on my jersey. There was no other defence man who could take his place.
Bobby, just a class act all the way
I remember watching that!!! The G.O.A.T!!
Classiest, most humble person you'll ever meet - How he played hockey is one of the least great qualities of this man.
Beliveau right there with him. Great men through their character...Amen.

Did you ever see bobby orr play? Somehow I doubt it
Thank you Fred and Pete two of my brothers for getting me into Bruins, Red Sox and Celtics over 60 years ago. Damn
Was Bobby a Beatle?
Saw this on our local news(Halifax,NS) and I still haven't heard a louder stadium ovation ANYWHERE(I'm a Leafs' fan).
My first pair of skates had a Bruins symbol and the number 4. Born in 66 will always be my favorite
Best Person Ever oh and greatest player toooo
and i still cry
The GOAT🎉
They STILL go berserk every time he shows up at the garden for an event. And rightly so!
My dream came true when as a boy in Ukraine, I watched Bobby Orr playing in the Canada Cup in 1976.
What a shame his knees gave out on him. He retired way too soon.
This guy should’ve played 20 seasons and been the last remaining player from the Original Six era.
the goat
Respect u can't buy. U earn it
terry?
Where’s Grapes?
The greatest EVER. On and off the ice. #4 🐐 👑🏆
There was only 1 Bobby Orr👍
Hes one of the goats ,my father compared him to ali ,
Ali was a clown compared to Orr.
